My insurance denied the full mouth x ray because the dental office failed to submit a clinical note or narrative proving medical necessity.

I have had cancer twice and need to have teeth pulled, and this has affected me financially and so I have state insurance at this time. I have worked most of my life. Most dental offices I have called recently are rude, judgmental and unprofessional. They need to remember that even basic calls to a dental office are shared with others. Andersen Dental office shared information I needed today, and consequently I am referring others and my son, who just graduated pharmacy school, to Andersen Dental, as a future dental office to go to for their/his own teeth. :) I spoke with front office staff /insurance there and the two people I communicated with on the phone today were totally awesome and made my day. I was lucky enough to connect with Dr. Rapisarda during that emergency and he got me in quickly to fix my tooth. He is so good with Novocaine and how he administers it, painless. Recently I experienced a crown that was leaking. I feared what a painful, difficult, mess that would be from past dental work. But, SURPRISE....another painless, easy, beautiful replacement! Recently I had some serious tooth pain so I called Dr. Low to see when I could come in. They got me in the next day to take an X-Ray to see what was going on. Turns out I needed a root canal. Major bum dig. I was also headed to Vegas for a few days so he prescribed me some antibiotics. Well, it ended up not getting better and I was in even more pain. I called again and he had me come in that day. He didn't have time to do the root canal on that Friday so he gave me some pain medicine for the weekend. I woke up on Saturday and was in more pain. I called him on his personal number and he actually met me at the office... on a weekend... when they are closed. Short story: He's dope. I would recommend anyone to go to Above and Beyond. The overall nuance of the place reminded me of my stay at the Howard-Johnson Hotel on the Disney strip in Anaheim, CA (it was a great experience). Since I was able to obtain my x-rays from the previous dental office, Oasis only required one more x-ray to get a different view of a bothersome tooth. It was a quick trip in & out, but I've never in my 40+ years of life been treated with such consideration in a dental office. I made the entire staff aware that I have anxiety, & they treated me with care w/o being patronizing. In my experience that's rare in most professional settings. I was referred to a specialist because of the extenuating circumstances, & Oasis isn't equipped for surgical procedures. I recommend Oasis, & I've decided that these folks are going to be stuck w/me as a patient for a very long time.

I explained to the hygienist that I am a redhead and that local anesthetic often does not work well for me. That has been true since childhood. If extra time is not built in and numbness is not confirmed, scaling is extremely painful, which is why I have a long-standing aversion to dental care. I used a blunt, sarcastic comment about preferring to lose my teeth rather than go through that again. I was not refusing treatment. I was asking to be fully numb before they started. The hygienist left to discuss "options" and came back with a form stating I was refusing care and should find another dentist. There was no conversation about extra anesthetic, a longer wait, or the sedation this office advertises. I called manager Marlise Montgomery after I got home. I told her I was looking for reassurance that I would be numbed properly, not a new dentist. She said I was not a good fit, told me that as a healthcare provider I should know better than to delay treatment for periodontal disease, and suggested sleep dentistry. She offered to call back after she looked into it. The conversation had already made the outcome clear, so I declined. I was not interested in hearing the same message three times. The manager was correct: I work in healthcare. That does not exempt me from pain or anxiety. It does not mean a patient who asks to be numb is refusing care, and I should not have been shamed for my experiences. I was willing to stay and complete the treatment if I felt heard. Instead the visit ended with a dismissal form. This could have been resolved by a hygienist with an ounce of kindness or grace. That is a shame, because my previous hygienist -- who is on maternity leave -- was aware of my sensitivities and was always careful, took her time, and made me feel appropriately cared for. Most importantly, I trusted her and appreciated her. If she had been there today, I believe the outcome would have been different. Up until today I liked Oasis Dental and intended to stay with them.

When my insurance…read morechanged I decided to leave Distinctive Dental try out a different dental practice closer to my house which was a big mistake. The other dentist (NOT distinctive) did a filling that they not only trapped blood behind, but also left a massive amount of excess composite that went passed where the tooth meets the gum and essentially made a spear slicing into the inside of my cheek. I could fit a fingernail between the excess material and the gum above my tooth. I was in a ton of pain from the resulting ulcer on my cheek and the headache from dental pain. I called distinctive and was able to get an appointment very quickly. While Dr. Kim and the assistant remained incredibly professional, they seemed surprised and were very empathetic that I was left with a filling in the condition I was. They ensured I was fully educated on my options and involved me in the creation of the treatment plan. At the first appointment they removed the excess material to ease my pain and allow the soft tissues to heal. When I went back for the repair, we had initially thought a crown was necessary, but Dr. Kim was able to successfully repair with a new filling. They could've said the significantly more expensive crown was still necessary and I wouldn't have known better, but they chose better care over making money. The procedure itself was also miles better than my experience with the other dentist--the other office had forcefully pulled my cheek away as far as possible in an attempt to access the affected back molar, while Dr. Kim gave me instructions on how to hold my jaw so he could see. He also checked in frequently to ensure I was doing okay. He also took multiple photos throughout the process so I could actually see what he was talking about, and the before and after difference was night and day. TLDR: incredibly kind and compassionate staff that truly puts patient care over profit and ensure the patient is fully informed and involved in their treatment plan. I highly recommend!
