Denver Omelet/ Breakfast Potatoes
Kenneth K.

It had been awhile since we had breakfast here. It used to be our morning frequent places to eat. What happened? Oh maybe bc my wife has to watch her food intake. Service here however is excellent & we had seen our same waiter from years before. We noticed a nice renovation of the black booths & tables both bar height and the usual table height. I used the men's restroom & it's no longer wonky like before. A plus! I had the pancake combo & my pancakes were thick & massive. Too much to eat at one sitting. But it was a good thing! My wife had the Denver omelette, home fries & sour dough toast. She could only eat half! We were satisfied here! My wife noticed they even have a keto item on the menu & shrimp salad too. I'm confident we will return!

Bacon Cheeseburger with fries (other sides are available)

Bottomless mimosas ($18) are 11am-2pm and are pretty good. They don't pre-mix them so you can add as much OJ as you'd like. I just order a side of ham ($5.5) which is pretty great. Just a nice piece of protein. Also got a side of biscuits and gravy ($5.50 for 2). Bf got the club sandwich ($15) which is always good. Pretty standard club sandwich.

They recently started having Saikou Matcha popups here on the weekend which it what I stopped by for! (Possible soon an everyday thing) One of their staff has 12 years of professional matcha making skills and you can definitely tell by the quality and flavor of the drink. Huge menu with lots of unique options! The space was pretty cute too, lots of seating and very chill for a Saturday morning. Would love to see how it transforms at night since it's also the Redlight lounge! The staff was super friendly and had very good vibes. Lots parking around the area even though there are markets nearby.

New fave brunch spot!! I really like the turkey supreme sandwich and the chicken fried steak with biscuits and gravy!! The chicken tenders are also great! They're panko battered so they're perfectly crispy.

Biscuit & Gravy Combo

Drove by this place many times and finally got the opportunity to try this place for breakfast. It was completely not what I expected in terms of decor. I thought it would be an old school diner vibe but it was modern with a bar, tvs and good music. They were playing 80's music videos and we enjoyed it. We ordered the chicken fried steak and biscuits and gravy combo and Bloody Marys. The food and drinks were really good and the food had good portions. While our waiter was nice, I minus one star for the service of the hostess. She had an rbf and wasn't super friendly. I don't like to feel like I'm bothering you when I want to be seated or ask for water. I would come back again though because we all had bad days!

Belgium Waffle Combo
Bobbi A.

The food was okay. I got the Belgian waffle combo and it tasted fine but unfortunately no extra thrills or anything to write home about. The service was really nice though! Really nice and caring staff. The ambience was interesting because this place doubles as a bar so on a cold and quiet Monday morning there's huge light fixtures and televisions for evening activities. A nice time but if I return I'll probably see if lunch or dinner is any better.

Filthy Fries Buffalo Chicken.
Chris P.

Yesterday, I stopped in for a bite during a quick road trip. They had this incredible item, Filthy Fries Buffalo Chicken. The ingredients are as followed: Hot buffalo house breaded Panko chicken, served on a bed of fries, topped with fried onions, melted cheese, bacon, and house garlic aioli. HOLY MOLY, this was INCREDIBLE. I subbed sweet potato fries for the regular fries then asked for an additional side of buffalo sauce because I like to turn up the heat. If I had the time, I'd go back for lunch tomorrow. WW! When you're passing through #Sacramento, get in there and order this item.

Staff is friendly and their Carnitas fries are amazing!! Building is very clean, modern and has a good atmosphere. Alina is amazing!

Carnitas egg Benedict with potatoes and coffee

Came by for the first time the other day and really enjoyed the ambiance of the place, the staff and the food! Didn't know they open later on Thursdays to Saturday night. Love that. Will have to stop by during those nights lol I got the carnitas eggs Benedict and that was just delicious! Even the potatoes by themselves were so tasty, almost burned my tongue on one lol will definitely come by again

Corned Beef Hash
Mari S.

Came to enjoy some small talk with a friend and enjoy a small shared brunch. Sat at bar and bartender/server was friendly and was not busy. Ordered corned beef and hash with sourdough toast, corned beef and hash was came out hot and toast was nice and buttered. Also ordered lettuce wrapped bacon cheeseburger with fries but didn't eat fries. Burger was cooked as ordered and freshly made. Ordered bottle of champagne and everything ordered was affordably priced. Great downtown location with plenty of parking on the street. Service is always great.

I opted for a chicken sandwich with as side of buffalo fries and my sister opted for a burger with a side of fries. They had a DJ and sports games on the TV so it was a little loud inside, but nothing too bad. The food came out relatively quickly and we were excited to dig in! The sandwich was very flavorful and definitely my favorite part of the meal. The chicken was juicy and the veggies tasted fresh. The buffalo fries were also good. However, the buffalo sauce was a little too overpowering and next time I will ask for it on the side. I ended up requesting an extra side of ranch to help with the taste. My sister enjoyed her burger. Overall, we had a pretty good experience and would come back.

I ordered the following: - Poutine - Side House Salad - Prawn Linguini w/ extra prawns & extra pasta sauce The poutine was decent. The fries were crispy and could've used a bit more smothering with the gravy. I paired the dish with the condiment at the table called HP sauce. The house salad was straightforward and light. It tasted great with black pepper and ranch. Lastly, the Prawn Linguini dish was enjoyable for the most part. The white wine butter sauce was liquidy/thin and needed to be thickened more. I also saw that the dish was supposed to have grape tomatoes (as mentioned on the menu), and it wasn't included. Otherwise, the prawns, mushrooms, red onions, spinach, etc. as well as the overall flavor were excellent. The server throughout my dining experience was Lambert. He was very pleasant, kind, and attentive. I was impressed with his hospitality. The indoor ambiance was inviting and had a nice charm. It felt like I was transported to Great Britain. All in all, the food was tasty but the execution fell a tad short of expectations, especially with the Poutine and Prawn Linguini. I appreciated the opportunity to come to Bear & Crown. The service and atmosphere may bring me back to try something different.

Most recently, I came & wanted to get something new, while keeping it light. Our server gave some recs, so I decided on the chicken lettuce wraps & spicy edamame to start. There was some miscommunication between bar and table service, and our server was very confused. I think she thought we weren't going to order any more food and drinks, so she became pretty annoyed. But props to her, she did try to stay nice, but there was an obvious difference between when she first greeted us and after she found out we had ordered some food at the bar. And then she disappeared for a while and we saw her in some heated discussion with the bar staff. Overall, we were uncomfortable with the whole situation and kept wondering whether we did something wrong. In the end, our server did eventually come back when we were almost done with the appetizers we had ordered at the bar. We ordered some more food and drinks, and tried to keep things light and make her feel better. But looking back at the situation, I feel a little cheated out on the experience, since we were made to feel pretty uncomfortable as though we did something wrong, and like we had to appease our server. If ordering food at the bar and moving to the restaurant afterwards is not appropriate, I wish it had been conveyed to us at the outset. We could have sat at the bar area, no problem. I had specifically asked about this to the hostess before going up and ordering, and the people there were all saying it was totally fine. Since our server took our order late, we ended up taking that food to go and just finished our apps and drinks. We didn't really let the experience ruin our night and we had a good time. But I'm just thinking back on the night as I'm writing the review and cringing. Pepperoni Pizza This was really, really good. I'd totally get this again. I really wan't expecting for pizza to be so good here. Definitely a keeper. Boneless Buffalo Wings I had much higher expectations for this one... Unfortunately it was sub-par. It was very buffalo sauce heavy. This is the type of wings that I would request sauce on the side. I'm not sure that I would order this again, but if I did, I'd definitely ask for the sauce on the side. Whiskey Burger Just as good as I remembered. Very nice burger with bursting floavors. Keeper! House Belgian White - ok Morgan Terr Moon - good Alvarado Street Mai Tai - awesome. Actually, I think I might have confused this one with the Morgan Terr Moon - one was better than the other, but I can't really remember which way it went. Overall, would I go back? Yes, I love the vibes here and the food. And really enjoyed the service other times we've been. Hostess and bartenders were great and amazing. Even our server this night was nice enough. Just uncomfortable a tad. But miscommunication happens, and we can all get annoyed at times. Just take one more beer and don't let things like that ruin the night! ************************* previous: 8/2025 Love the vibes inside, familiar yet new. Clean and comfortable, just what we were hoping to get after a long day. Kale salad w chicken The salad was ok, and I ate everything. With that said, it was salty. There was too much dressing on the salad, and too much seasoning on the chicken. And the chicken was more dry than I care for. But presentation was beautiful and the veggies were fresh. Maybe ask for dressing on the side? Whiskey burger Great flavors. This was a thick piece of burger. And the fries that came with were great. Hubby enjoyed it and saved half for lunch the next day. He could have eaten the whole thing, and it took some self control, but he said it was satisfied with the half portion. 3 tacos The Korean Chicken taco was apparently hard to share - because it was too good lol. Friends were sharing and didn't really want to. Not sure about the other two flavors cuz i was too busy eating my own food, but the tacos looked pretty good. Ommegang rainbow IPA Legit IPA! Awesome! But quite expensive. I guess I'm getting used to California prices.

We received our bread and appetizer, but then we waited...and waited. As the restaurant filled up, we watched table after table receive their meals, eat, and leave while we still had no entrées. The couple next to us arrived about 20 minutes after we did, received their food, sent it back because it wasn't good, got replacement meals, and still finished before we were ever served. Each time we asked about our food, we were simply told, "It's coming," while the staff avoided eye contact. After more than an hour, our food was finally brought out by the owner's son. His explanation was that our steak took a long time to cook. That's simply not believable. A steak doesn't take over an hour to prepare, especially when every other table around us had already been served. I would have respected an honest explanation far more than an obvious excuse. To make matters worse, the steak was thin, overcooked, chewy, and cold by the time it reached the table. The quality was nowhere near what we've come to expect from this restaurant. I told the owner's son that I was more upset about the dishonest explanation than the delayed food. We've been loyal customers and planned to keep coming back, but honesty and accountability matter. Instead of acknowledging what happened, the owner came out, pointed his finger in my face, and became defensive because I called out the excuse his son gave. Rather than apologizing or trying to make the situation right, he escalated it into an unnecessary confrontation. Everyone makes mistakes. Kitchens get backed up. Orders get lost. Customers are generally understanding when businesses are honest and take responsibility. What I can't overlook is being misled and then treated disrespectfully when I questioned it. Unfortunately, this was the worst dining experience we've ever had here, and unless the owners learn how to handle problems with honesty and professionalism, I can't recommend this restaurant.
