No thats the feeling you get from some members of staff if you ask them a question, insist on them going just a tiny bit out of their way or maybe just breathe a wee bit too loudly. All this said though, this is a fairly big store with half decent stock, reasonable prices and, here is the 4th star kicker, it's very convenient for anyone who jumps off at Kelvinbridge tube station. Add this to the 'I shop at my local co-op whilst you throw your money into the fat cats big trough and watch while they gorge themselves stupid' feeling of superiority you get when walking out, and you have yourself a fine wee shop. Ooh, the 'wee' shop I mention above.... exactly that. Don't expect to be able to stretch out between aisles or maneuver a buggy around here without attracting a heavy mist of disgruntled exhalation from the staff. All in the fun though.

I've even began to deliberately go out of my way - a little bit anyway - sometimes in order to pop in here. Why, you ask. Well, anytime I've been in the staff have been friendly, chatty and very nice. Which makes you feel a bit better about parting with your pennies. The pennies have got to be the big number two of list of good points about S & A Food Stores. Despite, being in a prime location for desperate people stopping in to buy booze, ciggies and munchies; they do not overprice their stock. In fact, I've actually got some of the best booze deals ever in this shop - two one-litre bottles of Merry Dowe quality cider for a mere £4.50. That's them just screaming out to be bought! Plus, if you're coming from getting a tasty pepperoni pizza from Da Vinci's you'll need something to wash it down with. Mmmmm. Their nonalcoholic stock is also decently priced and of good quality. You'll get loads of crisps, the latest chocolate releases (Malteaser bunny anyone?) and all the popular magazines and newspapers. Good little shop with nice staff, good stock and an excellent location.

While it has all the usual ciggies, magazines and sweets/juice that you would expect from any corner shop there are also some other bits and bobs grocery wise tucked away in here. For instance, you can find a rather good range of veg in here. It may not always look fresh as a daisy or anything like that but if you're stuck for a last minute ingredient in chili or something - an onion's an onion. There's also a surprisingly decent selection of ready meals. Beware, these can easily be too tempting to resist on some occasions. I can vouch for this as when I used to walk past on my way home from a Sales Admin job in Clarkston these turned out to be my dinner a good proportion of the time. A dangerous and fatty artery chocked road to waddle down, that's for sure. Other good points about this shop are the alright prices and fairly friendly and pleasant staff. My real bug bare with them, is that cash machine they have attached to the outside of their shop as they won't accept card in store but direct you to this. For this convenience you're also expected to pay (e.g. cash withdrawal charges) and I have on a few occasions walked further down the road to the free cash machine before then popping into Barry's or - erm - the chippy.

They have a cash machine but it usually doesn't work, but they do cash back. They also don't have a pay point but the guy has informed me they are getting one soon. Don't know if this is propaganda or the truth! This is a really good value shop, especially for drink. They have a large range of wines beers and spirits and though they don't beat the nearby Lidl on price, they certaily beat the nearest other off licence hands down. They also sell the top brands like Smirnoff and Gordon's which Lidl doesn't. This is also a useful shop for miscellaneous things like glue or fuses. You just don't know when you might need either of these commodities! The staff are friendly too. Overall a good little convenience store with good parking facilities.

I came here last summer as I was making a family meal and I had forgotten to buy tomatoes which were a pretty important ingredient. I nipped along the Tesco Express just a few doors along but they had sold out. Oh dear. Not really sure what to do I decided to give this little store a try. As soon as I popped in the door I was greeted by a box of red, ripe, juicy tomatoes, phew! I bought around 4 and they came to about 80p, what a bargain! The woman working that day was really helpful and chatted to me as she was bagging my tomatoes so I decided to share my tomato based disaster with her. Thank goodness Value Convenient Store saved the day!
