Meanwhile, a tasty bottle of Black Heart is a mere £13.99. This shop is not only good for frozen and/or instant food but also stocks most simple ingredients for pasta bakes and the like e.g. cheese, onions, peperoni (three for £1.50) and jars of bolognese sauce. This isn't always the case and one time when I asked a taxi driver to drop me here my request was met with a; "Who's Garry? How am I supposed to know where he lives?" Oops. Garry is always in store and over the years has built up a loyal customer base, he takes the time to talk to his customers and is always interested in the local community which is why Garry's is always such a bustling little shop. They also ask that all customers that look under the age of 25 carry ID and the purchase of a Buckfast bottle is limited to 1 per customer to stop people buying it for underagers so they can run amok in the park later on. I've also found that Garry's is great for bargains, there's always some kind of special offer on and at Christmas time they had huge grab bags of Doritos for only 99p which was great as we always had a supply of crisps and dip for our Christmas visitors. I'll usually pop into Garry's for a lottery ticket if i'm feeling lucky, or just to stock up on snacks. It's a great little shop and if you're looking for an essential then I would recommend popping by here!

I made a purchase the other weekend of six cans of beer. They were 4 for £5. This required the young lad at the counter to use a calculator to work out how much 6 would be!! Also, when packing the cans into a bag, he gave no regard for, nor did he have any idea about, how to pack them. Some were lying on there side, some were upsidedown. It may not be the young lads fault but it is certainly the owners fault. I have noticed this on several occasions with other young guys at the desk. It may seem petty but it is not the way the packing of these products should be carried out. If I have noticed this I am sure others have too. A little tuition & TLC would not go wrong here.

Even if I was at these small shops at the Broom, I would probably still go out of my way to go to a supermarket elsewhere (e.g. Asda or M&S at the Avenue, Waitrose by the M77) because this one is just a bit rubbish.

Great staff , very helpful especially the wee guy with the beard; Steven i think is his name always a smile and a happy chat to customers which doesn't seem to figure much these days to people especially in areas like Newton Mearns which is a shame! Yes prices are not the cheapest but there is more to life than price which everyone seems obsessed with and the Co-Op has always been there to help ordinary folks and still does so I feel good supporting them whether in Brodick in Arran when I am on holiday over there or here in Newton Mearns. Don't forget your co-op card when you go with 5% cashback and 1% to charity! Clean and organised layout with most of what you need for emergency supplies and top up food. The store is a top up shop and is really used by the surrounding locals in the Broom area who dont have cars or from the many retirement homes dotted all around it. Mainly due to the claustrophobic feeling that can easily be felt upon stepping into Ashy's. It's also a result of other customer's in Ashy's who seem indifferent to you at best, and down right rude at worst. Something which is a big pet hate of mine. I suppose, this comes with the territory of having people double park and jump into your shop for ciggies and the like.

It's also stocks a good enough range of cheap (ish) alcohol. So you can pick up pretty much all the little bits and pieces you might need. I have to say that this one is probably one of the best as it is open 365 days a year! I lived in a flat on Clarkston Road a few years ago and although I don't smoke my old flatmate was like a chimney. It was the evening of New Years Day 2008 and she had run out. She was getting cranky and there appeared to be absolutely nowhere open, which is understandable on New Years Day. We took a stroll further along Clarkston Road and Cathcart Mini Market came up trumps. She was able to pop in for her cigarettes and the day way saved, hurrah! This shop is also quite a bit bigger than most other newsagents around the area so if you are looking for something and can't find it in any other newsagents then pop here as chances are they'll have it!

All the more so, because I am one of the last few over eighteen year olds who does not have a car. Hence, it's either a three minute bus journey or a seven minute walk (roughly) for me to my nearest supermarket. Given my only other choice is the tiny Coop on Battlefield Road, it's not surprising that I LOVE this Sainsburys. Admittedly, it's not the cheapest and some products in particular seem to be overpriced (bog roll for Pete's sake!). Though, it does have a good range of products and some rather appealing deals on. It your desired items are not in any of the deals you can usually find the no frills version of it for a fairly reasonable price e.g. a litre of orange juice for 50p. Not quite sunshine in a bottle but thirst quenching all the same. Additionally, even when I've been in at peak dinner buying times (4pm-7pm) I've still been able to easily navigate my way through the supermarket and round other shoppers. Furthermore, you don't need to worry about massive queues due to their new self-service areas. While, they may seem a little scary the first few times they really are worth facing the fear. No queues, no need for human interaction and you'll still head home with some tasty dinner that doesn't require much effort. Perfect after a hard day's work.
