I called a handful of companies and none were able to come out. I called Best Plumbing & Cooling Contractors and they asked for my contact information and then messaged me to say that there was a $300 "Emergency Fee". Although that seemed high, I had no other option. The technician arrived within the hour. He told me that he had to leave the truck running with flashing lights. My neighbor, who was also awake with a failed propane furnace, saw the vehicle in my driveway and called to see if I was ok. My neighbor told me to tell the technician to try going outside and warming up the propane regulator. He said he just warmed his up and his heat came back on. I relayed this to the technician, but he did not take him up on his suggestion. At one point he changed the flame sensor but that didn't fix the problem. He asked me if I wanted to keep the new flame sensor in or if he should take it back out. I said it was fine to leave it in. He continued to try different things and finally after an hour or so, borrowed a lighter and repeatedly put the flame up to the propane coming towards the flame sensor and got it to light. I asked the technician multiple times to please explain what he did. My husband was out of town this whole time and I wanted to be able to explain to my husband what we should do when this happens again. He kept ignoring my question but then finally said if you get it light up a few times, after a while it will stay lit. When it was time to settle the bill, I was flabbergasted at the price. It was the $300 Emergency Service, plus another $300 Labor Emergency Rate! All together, my bill was $720.79. The description on the bill was flame sensor installed, but again, the flame sensor was not the issue. After doing some research the following morning, it seems that my neighbor was correct and that the first thing you should try is warming up the regulator on the propane tank. It would seem the issue could have been fixed in 10 minutes. I have called and left messages 5 times to discuss my bill with no call backs. I am so confused as to why there are so many 5 star reviews when they won't even return my phone calls.

That sounded very reasonable to me. I asked for a quote and it was about $900 to raise both units on metal sling stands. So each stand was about $200 plus labor...made sense. I was expecting this to look awesome! We set up a day and time- I took the day off of work and the day before they cancelled. We rescheduled for 2:30 a few weeks later and I said I'd be home shortly after they started to oversee the project but I wasn't there at 2:30 and they never called and just left. We rescheduled a 3rd time- Zach called me at 9:54 to tell me he arrived and at 10:20 told me he was finished and decided to use "stone" as he felt it looked better and $200 cheaper. I was really excited! He sent me a picture as well...and when I got home....it was horrible- he pretty much lifted my units on concrete blocks you can get at Walmart. Some were gray and some brick colored. Needless to say- not a $700 job nor is a concrete block the same as "stone" - they were not secured in any way, shape or form- After talking to him, he said that they couldn't get the metal sling stands and they wouldn't work but no one told me. So the next day I asked for an itemized list : material cost and labor cost per hour but he just couldn't give me that info- very weird! That's protocol in any construction type of work! So I told him if I knew they were going to put them on concrete blocks, I could have done that for $50! They tried to take advantage of me! It was later admitted that the job was small and it wouldn't have been worth it for them to do ( travel- gas- ) I couldn't believe my ears! if it was a small/ cheap project I would have had more respect if they were honest and told me it was much too small of a job and not worth it rather than try to screw me out of $700! I was born at night- but not last night! I expected a professional looking final product for $700....So I put up a fuss and he said he'd come back and get his concrete blocks and call it a wash- Funny how all of a sudden it's worth their time to come and get $25 worth or concrete blocks. My advice to this company: HONESTY saves everyone's time!

Wheeler Heating recognized the problem from the first visit, had it fixed in a short amount of time and our house and never been warmer. Usually we use a pellet stove because our furnace can not keep up with the cold weather, however this year we have only use the pellet stove twice (When is was below 15 degrees) and our house has consistently stayed at 68 in all rooms. I am currently 8 months pregnant and unable to take a full hot shower, and my children often end up needing to take cold baths afterward. When I reached out to the company for help, they refused to come out to assess the situation unless I agreed in advance to a $300 service fee. The company is upfront blaming that the hot water heater is simply "undersized for our household needs" instead of checking on it. I've previously owned a home with a similarly sized water tank and never ran out of hot water at all, but regardless, I believe a company should stand by its work--especially when the installation is recent and the unit is still under warranty. At minimum, a basic service check should be offered without demanding a substantial fee upfront or placing the responsibility on the homeowner. The individual I spoke with on two separate occasions was dismissive and unprofessional, and did not take accountability for the situation. After bleeding the system and filtering a cleaning solution throughout, we found the boiler itself would not fire at all. He spent an hour or so running diagnostics but determined the system itself was beyond saving. This is a duplex, so this involved two (2) 40 year old boilers. He stopped everything he was doing and cleared his schedule to replace the systems for me so that me and my neighbor upstairs would have heat this winter. He completed the work in a timely manner, coordinating the delivery of all materials, and removal of all scrap. He was accommodating, and kept me in the loop throughout the entire process. As a bonus, his work is bar-none, the finest mechanical installation I have seen in a residential setting. You certainly get more than you pay for. I will exclusively be calling TDS Mechanical & Plumbing for any service I need going forward.
