    Kung Pao Chicken
    Claire J.

I ordered this for delivery while I'm sick-- and I'm overall really pleased! I had seen a previous Yelp review saying ordering the kung pao chicken extra spicy was their favorite order, so I did that. It wasn't spicy at all to me. I have a high spice tolerance but was really looking for a kick! It had decent flavor & was overall cooked well, served with a perfect amount of sauce & veg, with a healthy amount of rice on the side. The hot & sour soup was different than I've had at other places, with a little extra sourness & a little more slimy consistency than I've had before. All that being said, it was really good. I just wanted a bit of a stronger flavor with a little more spiciness. Overall, I'd come back to try more of their options since I've heard good things. Everything arrived really warm which is sooo appreciated!!

What a great find! Staff were so pleasant and kind and the food was fantastic. Had to have a friend come join me to help finish it all and we still had leftovers. Great location too.

This is an awesome Chinese restaurant located near the hotel I am staying at. The chicken chow main was finger licking good. The potstickers were great too. The service was very friendly and the overall ambiance of the restaurant is fantastic. I highly recommend them. I wish I could continue coming back here but I have to go back up north in a few days

I live nearby and I've heard this place was fantastic, so I ordered some food for pickup for the first time tonight, and I'm actually mad I haven't ordered from here sooner! I normally eat vegetarian, so I got egg fried rice + scallion pancakes + honey milk green tea, and all of it is fantastic! Amazing flavor and great portion sizes. It was ready so quickly and the staff is friendly and kind. I will most definitely be eating here again! Highly recommend!!

I absolutely love this place, Yuki is always so sweet and ready to answer any questions I have. The menu has a lot to choose from and the food is always sooo delicious! This is one of my few go-tos for lunch and always will be -- especially with their yummy lunch specials that change, allowing me to try different things as the weeks go on :,)

Perfect location for me to get a bite to eat while the rest of my friends hung out at the bar next door. They weren't too interested in eating at the moment but I was hungry. So I was told that this hole-in-the wall had good Chinese food. It's not the most eye-catching or neat in an appearance place but it was enough to get me in and eat my bowl of shrimp noodle soup. There were plenty of seats to choose from. I was in a good spot facing the street, watching passer-byers go by. I had placed my order and paid the person at the register. She appeared to be the only one working. I had waited for what I felt was a long while. There were others sitting at a table and another person ordering. Perhaps, the cook, was backed up. Nonetheless, my bowl of shrimp noodle soup was brought over to my table steaming hot. It took me awhile to start eating as it was way too hot. I had to take lots of sips of soup until I was able to bite into one shrimp. The entire bowl arrived fresh and yummy, portioning was more than expected but the taste was missing a little something. The soup wasn't awful, it was just missing that Chinese soup taste. I'm not a fan of spicy foods but in the case is the soup, it definitely needed something - a kick. I didn't bother complaining. Perhaps, I should have added some soy sauce or hot sauce but wasn't feeling it. I had finished my soup in no time. It definitely hit the spot. Corner Cafe did its job. Staff was not overly attentive but enough to get what I needed (ie fork). She was polite and mild mannered. From the looks of the way business ran, it was an over-the-counter order type of place. Don't expect much. Pretty much, self serve. I would return again, but I may try something different.

Beef chow, fun, beef Chow Fun Wet Style
    Sammy H.

I was in the area and came here for lunch craving Chinese food. This was my first time. I ordered the beef chow fun wet style $17 and the orange chicken lunch special $10. The flavor of the chow fun was good. It wasn't very wet as you can tell it wasn't saucy. The beef tasted good and was not chewy, instead very tender. My critique for this dish is that some of the green onions used were older so they were dry and you couldn't chew them. I wouldn't say it's worth the price. The portion size for the orange chicken lunch special was great. The chicken was nice and crispy and the orange chicken sauce wasn't too sweet. The rice was done well and the eggroll was alright. I did not take this order to go, but wasn't met with any service either besides serving the dishes and I paid and tipped upfront. I didn't get water the time I was there. They may have been understaffed as the lady in the front kept going to the back. When I asked for my to go boxes, I also asked for water. While I was drinking it, I noticed that there was food in the cup. There were two pieces of green onion, and something else that was the size of my pinky nail. It definitely wasn't small and it definitely grossed me out. When I let the lady know, she laughed and asked if I wanted another one. Unfortunately, I would not recommend this place and or come back after experiencing the service and cleanliness.

I'm so full from the good food, I cannot walk straight. And I'm not just saying that because I'm in Hillcrest!!! I am stuffed. Packed. Full If I'm looking for Chinese food, I'm coming here. Best orange chicken I've ever had in my life.

We came here to celebrate an anniversary, and it turned into a night to remember. The restaurant is located on Pacific Highway. Parking is tough, and we were pressed for time, so we went with their valet -- reasonably priced and super fast. We were greeted by two kind hosts who congratulated us on our anniversary, which set such a sweet tone for the night. The ambiance is gorgeous: vibey music, dim lighting, very high ceilings, and a long, narrow layout that feels dramatic and intimate. Behind the host stand is the bar, which is walk‑in friendly and offers the full menu -- a great option if you don't have a reservation and don't mind bar seating. Service was excellent. I had a lot of questions about the menu, and our waitress answered everything with ease, gave thoughtful recommendations, and explained dishes we weren't familiar with. The menu is divided into cold, hot, sides, and entrées. We ordered the Tuna Nam Khao, coal‑roasted cabbage, short rib plate, and the wagyu steak (one of their signature items). Everything was incredible. For drinks, they have a wide selection of cocktails, wine, and mocktails. I tried the Spirited Away mocktail -- hands down the best mocktail I've ever had: crisp, refreshing, and perfectly balanced. My partner ordered two cocktails and loved both. Close to sunset, they rolled up all the shades to reveal an amazing city view, and the entire dining room cheered and clapped. It was such a fun, unexpected moment that added to the vibe. The staff was on it -- dishes came out quickly, waters were constantly refilled, silverware swapped out between courses. Very impressive given how busy they were. We ended the night with a surprise anniversary dessert: matcha, cream, berries, and boba -- sweet, thoughtful, and just the right amount. We left full, happy, and with plenty of leftovers that they boxed up for us. Definitely recommend Animae for a special occasion -- the food, service, and atmosphere all deliver.

Parking is horrific by the way and you can ask for valet for $25 or make a few circles to find some street parking. This place does not have a large sign facing the street. It's very easy to miss when you're driving to look for it. I would just aim to park near the giant art sculpture and the entrance will be towards the other side of that. When coming in, the art was already breath taking. They had the Iron Giant painting above the bar area, with very nice booth seating throughout the middle. The blinds were down for the harsh sunlight, but nearing 8 p.m. the blinds were brought up for us to see the sunset (it was cloudy though haha). Our server was excellent. His name was Raphael (Rafael?) and he frequently checked in on us to see if we needed anything else. He was amazing at his job! Shout out to him! We ordered several items tonight: Tuna Kare Kare - has shellfish, therefore I did not try it. Hunan Lamb Chops - amazing! Doesn't taste earthy or musky at all. The cilantro cream was a great touch. Crispy Pig Ears - probably the star out of all the appetizers. Tasted exactly like chicharrones. There's a smell when it arrives, but that didn't matter once you took a bite! It was perfection. Wagyu Corned Beef Fried Rice - yes, therefore is wagyu, but I thought it was okay. Fried rice is rice to me. Crispy Potatoes - this was good. I enjoyed the cream the potatoes were in and its crispy texture. Short Rib Kare Kare - I couldn't have this because of my shellfish allergy. Pork Tomahawk Tocino - FANTASTIC. MUST GET. Perfectly marinated and perfectly soft. Absolutely mouth watering. Sea bass Cha Ca - pleasantly soft and delicious. Did not taste fishy. It was a nice surprise and the curry was great as well. Buko Pandan - tastes exactly like Pandan! It was a nice copy of actual Pandan. Turon Tart - my favorite. Tasted exactly like Turon. The banana ice cream was good. Sticky Rice Crème Brulee - very good! Not my favorite, but my family enjoyed it. Overall, I truly enjoyed this place for its Filipino inspired dishes. The servers were all super attentive. Every time they brought out a dish to us, they reminded us about the shellfish allergy to insure I wouldn't eat it; they were mindful of our allergies. The experience was heightened with the cocktails we ordered as well. Again, an exquisite experience which I'd highly recommend to anyone.

What stood out even more was watching a couple seated next to us receive immediate attention. They were greeted, served water right away, and the woman was offered a purse hook. Meanwhile, we were sitting there with our purses shoved beside us and weren't offered the same courtesy. It may seem like a small detail, but combined with the lack of attention, it made us feel overlooked. The drinks came out quickly, and the chicken satay and mac and cheese were decent. Nothing was bad, but nothing really stood out food-wise either. The highlight of the evening was definitely the live music. The performers were fantastic and created a great atmosphere that honestly was the only enjoyable part of the evening.

I was told it's actually hand-made in-house, and you can really taste that quality. They also gave us fried tofu which was a hit with my friends. Eric was even kind enough to give us extra tofu to take home, and following his recommendation, my mother used it to make a fish soup the next day that was delicious. I ordered a modified pork tonkatsu rice noodle soup, and it had a warm, nurturing quality that made me feel right at home. It's a great fusion spot, and because there is so much soul in the food, it isn't monotonous at all. Eric was so attentive that he even brought me extra broth when he noticed my noodles had soaked it all up. They even provided complimentary ice cream and a glutinous rice dish at the end. You go here because you want to feel nurtured and eat food that is good for your body and your soul, and the cherry on top is getting to support such good people. A bit skeptical at first since Asian fusion usually doesn't end well, but it was actually decent…read more It's a small, cozy place, and there can be a wait around dinner time. We ordered the fried tofu, garlic chicken, hainan pot with swai fish, and wonton soup. There was a complimentary silken tofu salad with a beet ginger soy dressing, and complimentary ice cream at the end. The tofu is what they're known for-- made in house, silky, and so delicious. That's why the fried tofu was our fav dish of the night followed by the garlic chicken. Though do note that the sauce of the garlic chicken is on the saltier side. The wonton soup was decent (nothing special), and we did not like the Hainan pot. The rice was soaked in salty sauce and the fried swai was plain and tasted more like those frozen fish sticks. I did enjoy the dinner but I wasn't blown away by the flavors or the presentation. The tofu was our main highlight.
