Unfortunately only the plain butter tarts were left. We grabbed a couple to try out. They are not of the real gooey variety fyi -- but still quite nice, the pastry really flaky. Do give this place a try and I think next time, I would try some of their other treats, like date squares or lemon bars.

It is becoming a ritual. She suggested going to Silver Bean Cafe, which is next to Millenium Park. I was game. She said either we could walk over there or drive. I went with the latter, as it was a hot day. I drove us in my rental car over to the cafe. Parking is limited steps away from the cafe. I backed into a spot and we walked over. Thankfully, it wasn't all that busy on a Thursday evening. The way ordering goes is that you go into the cafe to place your order. You then sit outside on the patio with an animal marker and your order come to you. Yay! My friend got a vegan chocolate walnut cookie and an iced coffee. I got a large strawberry lemonade. I saw the person at the counter give a penguin marker to place on his table. I would have loved that one! Instead, we got a dinosaur marker, which made both of us smile. We frankly had way too much fun playing with it on the patio while we waited for our order. A nice man came over several minutes later with our order. The vegan chocolate walnut cookie was massive! I got to have some of it. It was delicious and chocolaty. I am pleased that there are vegan options at this cafe. My large strawberry lemonade was gigantic. It tasted so good. It wasn't insanely sweet. It was perfect, with the sweet strawberry taste meshing nicely with the tart lemon. I loved it. The patio is lovely. We spent a good couple of hours chatting away. You get a lovely view of the Otonabee River in the heart of downtown Peterborough. It's beautiful and the breeze was much needed! I would come back here for more desserts and sips. There was also an ice cream stand. Perhaps I will give it a try the next time I am here. (329)

When I arrived the chairs had been stacked, likely for cleaning duties. I picked up a coffee and a tahini maple brownie to go. When I had each of these the following day, recognizing the time lapse may interfer with the quality and therefore my experience, both were delicious. At first I wasn't all too impressed with the brownie. I didnt get any hint of tahini and the sweetness was a lot. I heated up the coffee and was prepared to have it black, an unusual occurrence, yet sipping at it to make room in my mug for my oat milk, it had a very mild flavour. It wasn't acidic, which some coffees with notes of citrus tend to create. It was smooth, made all the more better with a peice of the brownie in my mouth at the same time. Mind blown and magickal. So at first, not impressed with the brownie, yet having it in a new way, wow! Definitely a pairing for the win! Loved the ambiance, they had a cozy lil table and chairs in the window, surrounded by plants that made it look and feel like aspace in your living room. Also a hexagonal shelf with even more plants next to the bar, on way to the washroom. The art on the walls, amaze-balls! Really, quite beautiful. Lovely the owner is supportive of local talent. I am GF, so have not tried the sandwiches, but they sound amazing. Salads are displayed in a small covered counter so you can peruse your selections. Order one or a plate of two or three. They are all great. They have just added an adjacent space with a coffee shop/library feel to it to essentially triple the "eat-in" area. Not an easy location to find parking, especially at lunch, but well worth the hassle.
