I attended a disability fashion centered experience titled "Every Body Blooms." Sponsored by NCHPAD, UAB Arts In Medicine. This was such a beautiful fashion show showcasing the confidence of the models and their creativity in fashion. One model remarked that "When you look good, you feel good." I would encourage everyone to follow NCHPAD to learn more about the disabled community and how they adapt to the abled body society. Again, this is a wonderful venue. I'll be back for other shows and performances.

We attended a…read moreChristmas concert performed by recording artist Amy Grant and the Alabama Symphony Orchistra (ASO). The music was wonderful, and Grant's voice was beautiful. She is terrific. The 2,500-seat auditorium blends glorious acoustics and architecture to create a fabulous experience. The classic theater layout includes a semi circle balcony, and it provided good sight lines. I think the best seats for acoustics and view are the lower section about midway back, the left and right balcony, and first couple of rows in the center balcony. The Wright Center is conviently located on the campus of Samford University. It is easy to find and there is parking around the facility.

It's pretty much a black box with stadium seating, a short platform stage and everything from sound to lights seemed somewhat rigged but fully functioning of course! You don't have to go Broadway to see a good theater performance and this Birmingham locale is the perfect example of such! I'm not sure if there is an age-limit to the shows here, but I'm going to assume that most aren't kid friendly as there have been pretty adult themes (language, particularly) in the shows that I've seen.

I've attended several events here over the years, from concerts, to movies to guest speakers. My high school graduation was held here back in 1997. There are usually snacks such as popcorn available for purchase and beverages. I don't remember other food being available. The staff is always pleasant and ready to assist. Pro Tip: The seating on the lower level is much more comfy than upstairs, especially if you are hippy or curvy or just want more room. Buy your tickets keeping this in mind.

They seemed to have improved the sound system, which really made the musical experience better. I thoroughly enjoyed Orchestra Noir and can't wait to see them again next year. I had the corn and green tomato soup (not pictured). I thought it would look and taste differently. It was a broth base, and I assumed it was going to be more or a bisque or puréed vegetable base. It did not look appetizing at all. The tortilla strips served on the side should be left off the plate because they aren't good and add no value to the dish. I was craving a steak and the kitchen graciously not only gave my options (flank vs. petite filet) but agreed to make it. However, I wish they had said "no" and said they couldn't do it. It was extremely underwhelming. I had to send it back because the first dish was gray and overcooked for medium rare. The set-up on the plate was fine (succotash and gnocchi), but I hated that there was little color contrast with the yellow pea shoots as a garnish. It definitely took away from the overall presentation of the dish. There were other issues with the temps of the food st my table as well. It appears that there's fundamental difficulty in cooking at either end of the spectrums but they do a great job at medium. Overall, great service, great view...food- completely underwhelming and glad I didn't have to pay for it.

My friends and I played some pool, had some drinks and then decided to leave. Before leaving, my best friend and I decided to go to the ladies room. Upon discovering that all bathrooms save one were full, we elected to go into the single available bathroom together. I will at this point acknowledge that there was a sign on the bathroom door that said "one person at a time" that we did not see initially. After entering the bathroom, but after I had disrobed to the point necessary to use the bathroom, we heard someone BEATING on the door saying only one person allowed at a time. We explained through the door that one of us was in the process of using the bathroom, and that we would be out shortly. The banging on the door continued, and, when I stated that I was mostly naked (to use the bathroom) this person returned "I bet you are." Once we were finished using the bathroom, this person ( a man who was identified as one of the owners by a friend, but not confirmed as such by me) aggressively confronted us about the bathroom policy, sayin we would be kicked out. I told him I was about to leave anyway, and that we'd only decided to go into the bathroom together once the other bathrooms were deemed full, and that, further, it was more efficient to use the bathrooms in pairs, where one person used it, while another washed their hands. He was not receptive to this feedback and further pointed to the sign. Upon walking away, the women he was with even stated that I was "such a b*tch", to which he did nothing. If this was an owner, I am appalled at the treatment of a patron. Had this been handled differently, I would have gladly offered an explanation and apology. Further, if this owner allowed his guest/date to insult me loudly across the bar, it makes me wonder what else they allow. If this is someone not affiliated with the bar, which, based on the passion of the affront, I doubt, I encourage the bar to better police their patrons, as this encounter made me feel very unsafe.
