Pathways is an organization and shelter I became connected with within the past month or so. They…read moreserve women and children who are experiencing homelessness. Programs offered are: Day Center - Daytime shelter where women and children can come to get out of the elements, get meals, have access to showers, access to laundry rooms (if available), get clothing, or ask for everyday basic needs (ex: pads, sanitary wipes, sanitizer, toothbrushes/toothpaste, soap, socks, etc). Women and children can stop by during the day to ask for available items without actually staying at the shelter. There are only a limited amount of spaces to stay overnight, but the day center allows access to care for the basics. ELC (Early Learning Center) which is a childcare facility. This is currently under a remodel (looks amazing btw) that should be opening back up by spring or summer. ***Note - They are in need of a couple more committed, caring and enthusiastic teachers for their ELC to better serve the number of children they care for. I believe you can apply on Indeed. Stepping Stones (overnight shelter). Women (unaccompanied) and mother's with children utilize this service with a focus to moving to permanent housing. Safe Haven - Permanent Housing for individuals with mental illness (severe) Pathways also has case managers, social workers, life skills classes, bingo, resources to assist with goals, educational programs, etc. The goal is to reach and achieve independence. DONATIONS - donations make a HUGE difference for the individuals being helped and cared for by Pathways. You can visit their website or social media to see what needs they may have. You can donate food, clothes, shoes, hygienic products, etc. There is also a particular Goodwill you can donate to and mention Pathways. A few items I have noticed that would be beneficial or that are low are: ponchos/rain jackets, razors, brushes and combs for textured hair, hair products for textured hair, tissue, clothing of larger sizes, underwear, pull ups, towels, etc. You can find out how to help or volunteer by visiting their website or social media. I have found several businesses actually give their employees the option to volunteer in place of some of their work days during the year. All of the staff members I have come in contact with have been wonderful with the people with the shelter, those that just stop by, interns, volunteers, you name it.

I volunteer my time at Pathways twice a month by organizing/coordinating/leading health sessions at Pathways. It's a wonderful opportunity to give back to my community. There are many ways to help out: either with your time, money, or other donations.

From the owner: Tax Deductible Donations for Individuals and Businesses…read more We exist to bring relief to people in desperate situations. We primarily focus on the most vulnerable—families with children, individuals with disabilities, and people experiencing homelessness—but we also have a heart for the most average person who is in need. 100% of people's donations go to caring for others. Our Director pays for all operating and administrative expenses for this organization to ensure that every dollar of others' generosity makes its way to those who truly need help. Charity Fund is a registered public charity based in Birmingham, Alabama. While we serve our local community, we have also helped individuals far beyond our immediate reach. We aim to make the most impactful and efficient use of our resources by doing many small things (like $10 impromptu meal cards for short-notice giving), moderate efforts (such as distributing dozens of meals in areas where homelessness is high), and occasionally larger efforts (assisting families with their living expenses or vehicle repairs) especially for those experiencing discrimination, oppression, or hate. If you know someone who is known for being generous and kind to others and is currently in need of a hand up, please let us know. We prefer to first consider those whom someone already has compassion for. It could be a friend or family member, someone you see on your way to work each morning, or someone you don't personally know but have heard about.

Hell, I really don't know what the hell because I was drinking tequila during this conversation so this review of a once for profit but now non profit art studio that has not been sold or closed but yet opens for the Day of the Dead festival one day per year, blah, bleh, blibbity bleh..yadda yadda..drone.. Holy Shit Birmingham peeps!! This is more damn confusing than a goverment website! Is it closed or open? Seems simple..well.. I was there so I am going to say its OPEN. But if I came back in a week, it would be closed. Insane Artist People!! I love ya but answer the question! Day of the Dead Festival was an unexpected treat. Good food. Good music. A band from Austin, TX and beautiful altars set up to commemorate the dead lost loved ones in true fashion of the holiday. Fires burning in chimineas, colorful lights, friendly people, murals, activities, face painting, beers to drink, food trucks serving. If I didn't know better I would have thought I was in Austin! Weird! The Dia de los Muertos altars are all beautiful too. Each person who passed away represented a universe contained within the beings that they were.. the altars had items that they had enjoyed in life, photos, paintings, letters, favorite coffee cups from which they drank only to mention a few. The vigillette candles are glowing and lighting up the way that was each life which was lost. I just popped into town and did not have the chance to set up an altar, but I did light my own candle and set it in a special place to commemorate those who I have lost. The red glowing sparks from the open bonfires there went into the night sky and burned out into infinity much like the lives that were being commemorated. So long momma. You are remembered and loved. A candle here burns for you this night as well. Thank you for being such a wonderful mother. I miss you now and everyday of my life.. I will think of you. Maybe now from where you are you see things with new eyes and vision and I hope you understand me more now than ever and that it gives you peace. I am well. Your grandson is well. I hope you see us now whenever you want and the distance no longer confines you. I love you now and always.
