This is a beautiful facility. The comfortable seating is wonderful for enjoying a show, concert, play or any performance based event. The room set aside for dining is great for most any type of hosting venue. Great sound system without any echos or distracting noises to interrupt a performance. I attended a disability fashion centered experience titled "Every Body Blooms." Sponsored by NCHPAD, UAB Arts In Medicine. This was such a beautiful fashion show showcasing the confidence of the models and their creativity in fashion. One model remarked that "When you look good, you feel good." I would encourage everyone to follow NCHPAD to learn more about the disabled community and how they adapt to the abled body society. Again, this is a wonderful venue. I'll be back for other shows and performances. read more

I love the Alys Stephens Center! I was recently here to see Eric Benet in concert and it was phenomenal!!! I really don't think there's a bad seat in the building. This is a great venue!!!! Highly recommend attending a show here if you get the opportunity. Parking was tough since I was running late but that was to be expected. Locating street parking is NEVER fun or easy! I ended up parking in a student lot ... no problems since the event was on a Sunday. My car wasn't towed! Ha! This was a great event and I'm so glad Eric Benet spent his birthday with us here in Birmingham, AL!!!! FUN NIGHT!!!!!! read more

The Alys Robinson Stephenson center is a beautiful concert hall located on the UAB campus. This wonderful venue was built around 25 years ago and has served the Birmingham community well. My families most recent visit was to attend a concert by Delfeayo Marsalis and the Uptown Jazz Orchestra. Tickets were $39 a piece and Covid protocols were in place. The acoustics were amazing and the colorful lighting added so much to the experience. It was a great evening. We were able to buy our tickets online which helped us avoid the ticket line. Also we were able to find a parking place on the street. read more

Decided to see "The Glass Menagerie " on the last day. I was able to park near the entrance but I can see when classes are not in session there is plenty of parking spaces. I purchased my ticket at the box office and the young man as well as the ushers were very cordial. The center is nice and welcoming. We were in The Sirote Theatre. The seats were comfortable and the view was great. Overall a nice experience and the cast did an awesome job! read more

After being at about 4 events I have come to a conclusion ...I absolutely love this place. My most recent Adventure was the Tango show. What a treat it was to have such incredible performers right here in Birmingham. What an even better honor that we have such a wonderful state-of-the-art facility to host such Talent. The thing I love most about this facility is that it is so well-maintained. Even the events that don't use the stage, for example the Yelp Gathering, are always well laid out and there is plenty of space to be utilized. This is a spectacular venue that is right on UAB's campus. I have enjoyed everything from Symphony Orchestra performances, to Sam Bush Bluegrass, to Matisyahu reggaie. This is a truly smorgasbord of music greatness. The facility itself is incredibly beautiful. And the staff has always been friendly. The lines are fast. The seats are comfortable. And the performers they bring in are of the greatest quality in what they do. I have sat all over the concert hall and I'm not sure there is a bad seat in the house. read more

As a UAB graduate, I've been here multiple times, most recently for the Yelp event/party. It is a great venue for concerts and other events. Only issue is parking, but it's a college campus, and I don't mind walking. The staff is friendly and helpful. Acoustics are great. Restrooms are kept clean. They just need to a better job promoting this place! read more

What a perfect little gem on the UAB campus. We Birminghamsters really have no idea how good we have it when it comes to music. Great bands come thru here all the time, and we have awesome venues (yes ... even The Nick is awesome!). The Stephens Center (as we like to call it here) is part of that awesome-ness. I have seen a number of performances here. Everything from a band of real Irish dudes playing some pretty interesting instruments on St. Patty's Day to Chick Corea and the Harlem String Quartet on a wintery evening. The acoustics in this place can't be beat. There are four performance venues at the Stephens Center: the big Jemison Concert Hall, where you mostly see performances, the Sirote Theatre, the little Reynolds-Kirschbaum Hall, and the Odess Theatre. Tickets are usually pretty fairly priced. The symphony plays the concert hall, and there really isn't a bad seat in there. While they don't allow you to bring food and drinks into the theater, there are concession stands (which have alcoholic beverages too) open before and during intermissions. Parking can be tricky, but there's availability on the street (if you're lucky) and in the lot across the street - count on a 5-8 minute walk. Keep in mind, you're on a college campus - when is parking ever easy on the campus??? So --- the next time you're looking for something to do, check in on the Stephens Center - They may not advertise the performances (unless you're on their mailing lists or are a season ticket holder) like some other places, but you can catch some great shows here. read more

The BEST venue for any artistic dance or music performance in Birmingham. Not a bad seat in the house in regards to the perfect acoustics. I've had seats on the main orchestra floor and a seat on the last row of the balcony. Each location provided exceptional sound quality. Great location on the UAB campus with plenty of free parking options. read more

Great concert as always. I got to see the Blind Boys of Alabama and it was awesome. The choir was made up of UAB, Miles college, Sanford and Stillman college and it was an excellent performance. I really enjoyed myself. read more

Had a great time at the Yelp party. Plenty of food and drinks. Hosts were around to see to it everyone was enjoying themselves. Food was really good. Got to sample some things from restaurants I've never been to. Good sampling of drinks too. The band was a good choice. Very eclectic selection of music. I always enjoy visiting this theater. Not a bad seat in the house so you don't have to worry if you don't get tix the first day. My latest visit was for a Lalah Hathaway concert and it was great. Even though they were balcony seats, I was able to enjoy every moment as if I were on the floor. Sound was great as well. Love this place for concerts! read more

Warning: If they cancel one of their own concerts, you will not be getting your full ticket price refunded. I called them numerous times but they would not help with the issue. I eventually had to dispute the charge with my credit card company in order to get my full purchase-price refunded back to me for a concert that they themselves cancelled. For shame. read more

This is a very intimate feeling concert hall I've frequented numerous times for symphony concerts, and others for some bands. I've never had a bad experience, and every seat I've ever been in has been solid; most of the time, I'm in the balcony. They do a great job here with events, and I will certainly always go back for more. It's a part of UAB, and you should be able to find some street parking within a couple blocks. Great little venue on the UAB campus. I've been here twice - to a concert performance and to see Chaz Bono speak. It's nice, clean and the sound quality is great. If you are going to hear someone speak - keep in mind this is a college campus and there will probably be a group of freshman girls behind you giggling and talking all night. Not the venue's fault. There is parking on the street and a parking lot across the street. If you are going to a free event get there about 20-30 minutes early to pick a good seat. read more

Excellent spot for live music. We saw Experience Hendrix, a Jimi tribute with guitar greats like Buddy Guy, Jonny Lang and Kenny Wayne Shepherd playing all Jimi's hits and some deep cuts. They tore the place down. Fantastic concert and the halls acoustics was big part of that. Parking can be a challenge if you arrive late but the facility is top shelf. Comfortable seats. Ample stage and well designed theater accoutrements. You won't be disappointed. read more

Over the years I've been to many events here: symphony concerts, UAB Honor Band concerts, receptions, operas, UAB gospel choir concerts, jazz and big band concerts, and more. This evening I just attended another great event--Yelp's Fire and Ice! Delicious food, a band playing good music, lots of friendly people filling both floors of the lobby. This is a beautiful facility with several venues that is being used in so many wonderful ways to bring arts and entertainment to Birmingham. read more
