This year, I believe had a total of 142 vendors with each having their own unique take on chili. I'm glad I've manage to come early to try out a few different chili before it got real busy since it's located in the Macy's parking lot. It's nice to see everyone pet and the fact this event is pet friendly is pretty cool. Be warned, this event draw thousands of people so if you're claustrophobic, this may not be a event to attend.

There is not enough of a discount for the pre-sales to take the risk of inclement weather as absolutely no refund is offered. That would be okay if the "organizers" did some planning and made arrangements for rain. But no, they have outside tables with no cover so these tables are useless if it rains or is very hot as was the case in 2013. You end up standing in line for measly offerings of food and then stand to eat. There are no facilities in the event itself to go relieve yourself of consumed beverages. Why not expand the area for the restaurants? This is a real charlie foxtrot. Nobody can walk by, the lines are ridiculously long and when it rains, it is just a massive jam. If you are going to take my money and offer no refund, you need to plan for rain, very hot weather and other contingencies. The portions are small, usually cold and unappetizing. You can go to a good restaurant for the money and not have to put up with all the inconvenience. We will not go back until better planning is initiated. I would recommend taking this event off your future plans. I came home wet, aggravated, disappointed and feeling like my pocket had been picked. No, no, just no. If you want to be miserable, go. Otherwise, go somewhere else. IMHO, this is the kind of event that needs to go out of business.

This celebration of Hispanic culture happens on the last Saturday of September each year. I have been fortunate to attend this event multiple times and every time I feel welcome. This is a celebration of Hispanic culture, but you do not have to be Hispanic to enjoy. All are truly welcome to come out and learn about all the different things that make these different Latin American and Caribbean countries beautiful. There's always really good food, dancing, music, vendors, and so much more. Also, this supports a scholarship for Hispanic student students. The entrance this year was five dollars at the gate, which was a deal honestly. Next year is the 25th Fiesta celebration so go ahead and make plans to attend now!

The rest of the festival is educational booths. Some of the groups represented are Girl Scouts of America and local colleges. There is a kids area with blow ups and several Hispanic bands play through the day. The festival ended at 8 pm.

The diversity of the people in attendance absolutely floored me, and made for excellent people watching. Sidewalk has been around for over a decade, and during that time the landscape of downtown has changed dramatically for the better. It is a beautiful and elegant venue that has been renovated over the years but kept its identity to its original state. I've attended several events here over the years, from concerts, to movies to guest speakers. My high school graduation was held here back in 1997. There are usually snacks such as popcorn available for purchase and beverages. I don't remember other food being available. The staff is always pleasant and ready to assist. Pro Tip: The seating on the lower level is much more comfy than upstairs, especially if you are hippy or curvy or just want more room. Buy your tickets keeping this in mind.

The location has moved from Alabaster, AL to Pelham, AL. The new location is "cozy" and even with the worst seat in the house (there really isn't one), you'll feel as though you could step forward a few feet and be right in the middle of the set. The play I recently attended was great. The cast was very well rehearsed and the sound, lighting, and props were all done very nicely. The play ran about two and a half hours, including intermission, for only $16 a ticket; $13 for seniors and they sometimes have an $11 matinee. My two thumbs are definitely up!
