We had high expectations of Corin after many recommendations but were left slightly disappointed. Not by the food, which was excellent (more below) but by the experience which for a restaurant which is not cheap, should be of equal importance.
Why? Well here are a few pointers.
- no cocktails available because the person who makes them wasn't there.
- the order and 'pace' of the evening was odd and not relaxing. Drinks ordered but didn't arrive before bread. Bread, amuse buche, starter and main all came within about 40 minutes. Yet dessert took a further half hour after that.
- the staff were polite and helpful but were not at the professional standard needed for this type of restaurant. Not comparable to the very high standards of the Boat House down the road for example
What we had...
Starters - Risotto and Crab
Mains - Brill and Bream
Wine - Sancerre
Dessert - cheese board
The positives -
All the food was excellent. Presented beautifully, well cooked and tasted fantastic. This is fine dining, so don't expect a massive plate - that's not the point!
The interior is lovely and comfortable and the tables don't seem too close together. (Minor point - the menus are unwieldy)
Overall - food excellent, staff friendly but maybe some more training could bring the service to the same standard as the food.
Would we go back? For a special night out, it'll be the Boat House next time, sorry, but we'll certainly try it again in the future read more
