Positives: excellent instructors! Negatives: basement location, rooms are hot and stuffy, bathrooms and changing areas are absolutely filthy - don't think the bathroom has been cleaned in months. The smaller studio has mat locations too close together so you are constantly bumping people on either side of you. I also don't think they clean the blocks; mine smelled awful. The lighting in the smaller studio looks like someone spent $20 bucks on Amazon and threw a bunch of lights up. Not serene. Also hard to hear the instructor and the location of the instructor is not ideal. read more

This studio is in a BASEMENT... ugh I love Corepower SO much, go there religiously (AT LEAST once/twice a day) but this studio has no windows or natural light. It sucks b/c it's in such a fun area- literally center of the city, so many restaurants/shopping/fun things to do (i.e. Boston Commons, Boston Public Library, brunch....) after or before yoga but the studio itself is SMALL, the rooms could be bigger and no natural light is such a PAIN. I love Corepower, but for such a $$ studio, guys this is definitely one of the smaller ones. THEIR RED-LIGHT THERAPY "Hot Power Fusion" DOES SLAP THOUGHHHHH! I've been to a few of the studios in Boston and this has been by far the worst experience. The studio is in the basement, it is small and cramped. They advertise showers but they might as well not, as I don't think they are up to the standards the prices of this yoga makes you think they have. I like that CPY offers the yoga sculp classes as I get a good mix of cardio and strength training, and this is the class I took at this location. The studio has terrible acoustics, which made the experience anything but soothing and relaxing. The instructor (Remy) had to yell out her instructions, and even then you could barely hear her. I've been to a lot of yoga classes in the city and this was the most disorganized yet. The music didn't flow, the moves didn't move to the beat, and there was just an overall sense of sloppiness, lack of thought and disorganization throughout the class. I got my sweat in, but that's all I got out of it. Extremely sub par for a studio that advertises its classes as an "experience unlike any other" - it was in fact the worst experience I've had in Boston. Both my experiences at the CPY Ink Block and Comm Ave were incredibly better than this one. Definitely do not recommend wasting your money at the Backbay location. read more

Filthiest yoga studio I have ever practiced in. The classes are fine. I love that they offer yoga sculpt which gets my strength training and cardio in one hour....but OMG....the hygiene is seriously a problem. I am sure there violating all kinds of sanitation codes. See photos here. I seriously worry about catching some kind of fungus or bacteria every time I step into the changing room. For the price I pay here for a monthly membership....I honestly expected better. Very disappointed. On top of the filthy studio....beware that classes are randomly cancelled. I signed up because I loved the various times they offered class. I am a very busy professional and usually plan out my week ahead of time and add my yoga classes to my calendar at the start of the week. Several times cancels are simply cancelled. I have also included a photo of them just cancelling all Sunday afternoon classes. Very disappointed. Do not recommend. I really wanted to love it, but unless there is improvement on cleanliness and random cancellation of classes will need to rethink giving them my business. read more

Visiting from LA and wow- I wish I read this reviews before I attended a class at CPY Back Bay. Walking into the studio is anything but serene. The basement location is whatever, but the ambiance and ammenities are drab to say the least. I signed up for a candlelight class, but as it turns out its actually just blue lights around the room- cheesy and not at all calming. The instructor was SO difficult to follow 1) because I could not hear her at all 2) her directions were all over the map. She told us we would be doing an inverted position that day. Fine. I've taken a LOT of yoga, pilates, bikram classes in my day but have not tried inverted. As we are loosely walked through the steps to get into the position I find myself in the final step before headstand. I was comfortable staying with one foot planted on the ground because as I said..have not done it yet. She proceeded to stand right next to me and my mat and encouraged me to lift my planted leg up. I decided to give it a go since I had her beside me and as I did i completely fell out of the position and landed on my beck because OF COURSE SHE DIDNT attempt to catch my legs or assist. She just kept walking and didnt even ask if I was ok. I am honestly only writing this because it's been 3 days and my neck has progresively gotten worse. I will be seeing a PT when I get back home. Do NOT go to this place. I can't believe this instructor has credentials. read more

I showed up at 12:02pm for a 12:00pm class and was denied entry. Unfortunately, even when I pleaded my case that I had walked six blocks in the cold to attend the class, I was told that its company policy. For a studio that is based in a location full of working professionals you'd think they'd have some flexibility for those who get caught in a last minute meeting or traffic but still make an effort to attend. I always thought that yoga is for everyone - it isn't at this studio. Avoid. read more

Corepower yoga is great, but this particular location is not so great because it is inside the basement of an office building so the studio has basically no ambience. I'd go to the ink block location that's less than a mile away the more complete experience. However, instructors at this back bay studio are wonderful and the class schedules are convenient, so I would still take classes there once in a while to fit into your schedule. This studio is mostly filled with 9-5ers working nearby and can only go to this studio. read more

Came here for the 11am Sunday C2 class. I had a "we miss you" promotional code which in good old corporate marketing, I got targeted for and decided to use. The teacher was exactly what I expected--and what Core Power Yoga market itself as offering time and and time again: a McDonalds-esque cookie-cutter, packaged, inauthentic class commanding "accept life as it is" and "breath in, breath out" and "you are perfect exactly as you are." This place also market itself as being this gorgeous studio (see - yelp! review pictures) but instead it is buried in a hard to find closet in the basement of a corporate building on boylston street. without windows or light, i would never come here on a warm, summer day. and finally, the mats: dirty, moldy, and also flaking particles. for a corporate studio it would be amazing if they offered good brands for rental, i.e. jade, lululemon, etc. it's like going to a Hyatt Hotel only to learn that the towels are not put thru the dryer. Or, worse, they don't even offer hotel brand towels. these mats they give you are like the Target 10 dollar brand. Overall, glad I used the class pass (got my work out in) but would never recommend this place over Baptiste Power Yoga in Brookline which is my favorite spot for heated vinyasa practice in all of Boston/USA. I came here since I'm in town to see a friend and they wanted to do yoga. At first I was apprehensive to come due to the rather scathing Yelp reviews. Much to my surprise the studio was rather very clean. The classes were good, the C2 class was great. I've never done hot yoga type classes but it felt amazing. I have so much to say. Still processing it all out. I've been a member here for years (both NY & BOS) and never experienced the judgement, and un welcomed energy that I did at this studio. With the exception of a wonderful instructor who provided a true zen strengthening sequence (Giavanna's class was enlightening) The next class I took was Errins, the new studio manager who surprisingly had a disappointing class in which she made up the entire session, spoke the entire 60minutes (I couldn't hear myself breath) then almost ran out of time and rushed us into Shavasana. When trying to provide her with feedback I was told that "as a veteran yoga teacher sometimes you just know what the room needs" .... okay. While being trained at orientation to help clean up the studio I noticed an alert in my account that basically read to watch out for me coming in for several free weeks under different names. (I had just received an e-mail from the company to participate in a second free week since I hadn't practiced there in months, this was sent to my personal email and not my brand email, in which I go by pseudonym) so sad that I was discriminated against because they believe that by me taking advantage of an offer that was given, I couldn't afford a membership. Next thing you know I'm receiving an email that HireRight would not be able to Hire me at this time.... (I've been hired by them before and was previously hired by them by my current employee, one of the worlds largest tech companies to date) The discrimination was real. My friends never felt welcomed and were told they were being "chaotic" in the room because they were breathing out their exhales louder due to their first time releasing their muscles in such a way (true healing benefits of yoga.. like how can you say this about a guest?) Moving forward with my trajectory and will be going for my YTT in my community. Really hope this place shapes up and stops practicing what they deem to be as yoga rather than diminution the power it can bring to the community - not just their community. The teachers were good; I especially liked Katie. She led a thoughtful class that allowed me to work hard where I needed to while also tending to some old injuries. The lockers are nice to have, and I loved the location (next to coffee shops, bakeries, restaurants and healthy food/ juice spots. BUT- and this is a big but for me: this place felt (every time I went there during my free week) DIRTY. It seems they never clean the props; the sink had the same gunk in it two days in a row; there was always hair lying around and often in the other sink without the gunk. The soap/ shower gel/ shampoo bottles had that gross gunk around the top. I felt grossed out. I kept thinking it was a one-off because we all have bad days but Core Power Back Bay was consistently dirty. I'm disappointed because it has so much potential and karma krew can easily keep things clean. read more
