Came on a not so busy day- received the food in about 5 minutes. We've had very authentic Tijuana-style tacos in San Diego- so that was our basis for comparison.... The tortilla shells are as described by the other reviews- just OK- not homemade, so no outstanding corn flavour- they did their jobs in holding everything together though The beans if the bottom different- the TJ tacos we had didn't have beans.... but these were OK- not horrible, but not absolutely fabulous either. The meats were OK- the chicken version had some distinct lime flavour- tasty. The pork ones had the beginnings of some interesting flavours- just not particularly amazingly though. The beef was our least favourite- OK flavours but again, nothing particularly special- somewhat bland- needed some grilled flavour or some more spices perhaps?... There was a bit of fresh tomato, and a little cup of fairly tasty guacamole- nicely made, had a good balance of tartness- could've used a bit more cilantro perhaps... Wish there was a bit more tang in everything- but it could've been our fault since we didn't discover the hot sause/salsa bottle selection until we were done.... What was missing was some lime wedges, some radishes, cilantro, a creamy sauce with garlic/cilantro, and some more exotically seasoned meats..... maybe a touch of queso fresco.... oh well NOT as good as the tacos we had in California, but definitely edible and for $8.50 plus tax for 3 tacos- not a horrible rip-off- Decent enough if you want a bit of mexican and don't want to prepare it yourself or can't get down to California, or don't want to shell out more money for a better restaurant somewheres.... read more

Very Disappointed. I had never been here but The guy working here said their burritos were large and filling. I'm 5'1 and 100lbs, their burritos were not filling at all! I could've eaten 3 of them to be satisfied but for the price of $9 for one it was pricey. I was still hungry after one of them. What's worse is that they put only about 10 small cubes of chicken, then load it with rice - watch them make it you'll see. I've been eating there at least once a week for the past two years, as I work nearby. I absolutely love their food and the staff is extremely friendly. Whenever I have to choose a meat option, I always go for their pork, which is basically like crack to me. I've had everything on their menu and was never disappointed! Seriously love this place. I had the tacos (veggie, pork and beef) and my 2 year old had the kids quesadilla. It was all fantastic. The tacos were heaped with filling and tasted great. A variety of sauces were also available which also tasted great. The quesadilla was very basic (cheese and chicken) but was filled to overflowing and had a really interesting cheese. read more

Spent two days in Ottawa and had the lunch here on both days! Tried the chicken quesadilla, beef quesadilla, chicken burrito and the pork quesadilla. All were really really good, but the pork quesadilla was in the winner. The food was really satisfying and the portion size was large. The tacos looked really good too. Everything was fresh. You choose the meat, size of meal and white/whole wheat wrap. I got guac and sour cream with my quesadilla. Get there early as the lunch rush is pretty long, but the line moves fast. There are two small tables within the restaurant, but Byward Market has outdoor seating as well. Behind the cash register are a lot of sauces with varying levels of spice. Choose wisely. The tastiest Mexican I can get in Ottawa/Gatineau. I come from the southern US where good Mexican is readily available, so I was a bit disappointed at the options in Ottawa. I stumbled onto this spot one day and never looked back. It's simply delicious. Great selection of homemade food and sauces. I've had the pulled pork soft tacos, beef quesadilla, and chicken burrito. This is some of the best, most reliable food and service in Ottawa. Cheap, delicious, service with a smile and some Spanish. I'm here frequently because it's so good. It's a little small, so don't expect to bring a big group here because seating is very limited. Drop by for lunch or dinner - guarantee you won't be disappointed. read more

I was surprisingly disappointed by the food here. I adore a good taco and had heard great things about this authentic Mexican restaurant. Perhaps they were just having an off day, but my taco was stale and its contents were extraordinarily bland. The restaurant is very small and is more take-away appropriate. If you want to stay and eat, there are around 3 two-seater tables and a small bar. In all, a rather cramped and uncomfortable setting with food that's nothing to write home about. We ordered a chicken burrito which was made to our specifications and packed with fresh ingredients. It was baked prior to being served to our table. It was fantastic and filling. Even though I haven't tried many authentic mexican restaurants, I knew this one was legit. The pulled pork tostada was amazing and perfectly seasoned. The homemade sauces are a must, as they compliment the pulled pork very well. I recommend the sweet chipotle as well the jalapeno sauce. The tortilla soup is something to behold -- it is the most delicately assembled bowl of soup to be had for less than $5.00. The different flavours and textures make it very satisfying--be warned: what seems likes a small bowl of fluid and a some garnish is surprisingly filling. This little Mexican restaurant is so so good! The staff was very friendly and helped explain everything on the menu for my sister and I. All of their food is super fresh and tasted great. Over my past few visits, I've tried their chicken quesadillas, chicken burrito and their nachos. All were very tasty but my favorite were the quesadillas. This place is usually fairly busy when I've gone and there are not many seats but you do have the option of taking things to go. Overall, a delicious place to eat with fairly reasonable pricing. read more

Finally, a really good Mexican taqueria in Ottawa. The tacos were excellent--especially the pork with the sweet habernero hot sauce. My husband had a lovely beef quesadilla, but my favorite dish was the tortilla soup--the best I've had since we lived in California. We'll be back often. This is as close to a real Mexican cantina that you can get in Ottawa. They have proper corn tortillas for the purists who prefer them (like yours truly). And of course their guacamole is to die for. My main complaint is they have an extremely small eating area, and the other restaurants in the mall get downright nasty when you try to eat at one of their tables and have food that did not come from them. I realize that they want to discourage panhandlers from sitting in their shop all day, but they take it to an extreme, and I think they end up hurting their own business. Seriously, who cares where the food came from? Having someone sitting there eating food that may or may not be from your store doesn't look anywhere near as bad as a completely empty eating area at the peak of lunchtime. read more

What a find! I had the beef burrito with the homemade garlic jalapeño sauce and should have gotten the large. It was so flavorful. The tacos, no matter what meat you choose, are fantastic, although the pork stands out more than the others. It is juicy, tender and generally incredible. I popped in today and had the veggie version of the tostadas - fantastic, full of flavour, incredibly fresh , the veggie mix cooked to perfection (in other words not a soggy after thought to beef or chicken fillings), everyone super friendly and an impressive variety of home-made sauces on offer. The habanero/garlic one (XXXXX) was so good I had to buy some to bring home. This has to be one of Ottawa's best little secrets. read more
