She provides a judgement-free environment with zero pressure from others because it's just you and her during the 1:1 sessions. She gives the right amount of push, positive reinforcement, and guidance so you can achieve your own goals. She is firm and demanding, but somehow gentle and understanding at the same time, too. She checks in to see how you're feeling at the start, multiple times during, and at the end of each session. She is attentive, provides clear instructions, models the movements, and is very open to modifying exercises and expectations based on what you personally need. I also love that her gym is smaller than a typical corporate gym. It has a cozier, less intimidating feel to it. Not to worry, though. Her gym is fully stocked and she has everything you need to achieve a full-body workout. In addition to a free consultation (5-10 min talk re: goals + 30 min workout), she offers single sessions or you can buy a package of sessions at a slight discount. In terms of scheduling, she's very accommodating. I've had to change my session to another day several times now and she was really great about squeezing me in on another day of the week. If you're on the fence about signing up, don't be. Lena is nothing like the personal trainer stereotypes out there. She's personable, approachable, knowledgeable, and encouraging. It's not that I don't think women can be good trainers. I just figured a male trainer would better know my needs because he's also male. However, it's hands-down the best decision I've made regarding my health goals. Lena knows her stuff and the results I've been seeing is definite proof. I started with Lena four months ago and I'm down 13 lbs. I've gained noticeable muscle in my arms, legs, back, and abs. She not only pushes me to do challenging workouts, she customizes it for me so I never feel like I can't do something. She holds me accountable, but doesn't ever make me feel bad if I'm a little lax one week. She also works with me to monitor my macros. I definitely didn't want to track macros at first because I was afraid all I'd get to eat was chicken breast and egg whites. I do eat a lot of that, but I also get to eat what I want. I use her guidelines to stay on track and she reminds me that it's more about hitting macros over an average week. If I went carb heavy one day, I should make up for it by cutting back a bit the next day - it all evens out if you do it right. Can I work out on my own? Yes. Can I track macros on my own? Yes. But Lena provides the accountability piece that keeps me honest and motivated. Plus, she's positive, encouraging, and easy to chat with. Makes the one hour session go by pretty quick. Definitely recommend training with Lena. She's great!

Some things I've learned: front of the studio gets better airflow and it's easier to hear the instructors, back of the studio has a fan (up to you if you like to feel the breeze directly on you) and is closer to the speakers for hearing music. Being near the music is always great but I find the instructors spend more time at the front of the studio. Again, up to you if you want the extra attention or prefer to stay hidden. Shoutout to my fav instructors- Trupti, Zoey, Meral, and Jasmine. Always an excellent workout. And Leia (not sure how her name is spelled but pronounced like the Star Wars princess) at the front desk is such a star. My main trainer, Smitha, further widens my horizons for training. Her background in yoga has helped me improve my flexibility and strength all at the same time. Today, I finally understood why the staff at City Sport Club provide such poor customer service…read more I was fortunate enough to speak with the manager regarding the steam room, which has been out of service for more than four months. When I asked when it would finally be repaired, I received the same response I have been hearing for months: "Maybe in a week or two." I have been given this answer repeatedly for over four months, yet the steam room has never been fixed. The manager also told me that the club had already paid $20,000 to the company responsible for repairing the steam room. However, when I asked him when the company was scheduled to come and complete the repairs, he said he had no idea. Doesn't that sound absurd? If you paid a contractor $20,000, wouldn't you expect to know when they were going to show up and perform the work? It is difficult to believe that anyone would make such a significant payment without receiving a timeline or expected completion date. I asked him directly, "When you paid the repair company, didn't they tell you when they would be coming to fix the steam room?" His response was unconvincing, and his body language suggested that he was uncomfortable with the question. At that moment, I found it hard to believe the explanation I was being given. After hearing the same promises for more than four months with no progress and no clear answers, I am left questioning both the transparency and accountability of the management team. What was even more disappointing was the manager's attitude. In the middle of our conversation, without resolving my question, offering any explanation, or even apologizing for the inconvenience, he simply turned around and walked away, leaving me standing there. After this experience, I now understand why the employees at this location treat customers so poorly--their manager sets the same example. For anyone considering joining this gym, I strongly encourage you to think twice before making your decision.

In my experience, it has always started with a discussion, followed by some sort of massage, ultra sound and even cupping (prep and loosen up). Then I go into various exercises and finally some sort of heat and/or ice. On leaving I am provided with some instructions and (occasionally) given bands, balls, putty, etc. for in home use. My experience at California Rehab and Sports Therapy was nothing like I was used to. To start with the front end staff was not very welcoming. The initial person that evaluated me, seemed to want me to answer their question a certain way, rather than listen to what my current injuries were in order to properly treat me. I wasn't being heard. I was then given over to someone for various exercises. The place is rather small and packed with patients. Afterwards I was given some instructions but no take home things (such as bands etc). On my 3 visits it seemed to only get worse, the person(s) working with me would also be working with 3-4 others at the same time (one gentleman was nice and apologized every time he returned). I was then told to do a side step (with a band on my knees) as I was trying patients and therapists would walk in front of me and get in my way. At every visit I received absolutely no personal attention in the way of massage, tens unit, heat/ cold or any real person attention to my issues or needs. I've always looked forward to PT to help in my care, at this place I dreaded it every single time. I finally reached out to the insurance to transfer me to another PT provider. My normal thing is to reach out to the facility before I review, but their website only allows you to leave your contact info. It's important to note that their reviews here are awful, so I'm not alone. It seems like a place with a ton of locations geared for mass patients and not individual care and personal help (this is evident in that it all open space with no private areas for specialized care). Good medical care is difficult to find, and it's not to much to ask for decent service and individual attention to help the patient. In my opinion, a total fail!!!

I just bookmarked for a couple of years, and I finally visited it. My boyfriend and I along with his doggie were having a day out in Santa Cruz. I told him that we should visit this place so that we can swing on the beach. He was down for it, but once we found the way to get down to it--he said, "No way, I'm doing that." I *did* not let that stop me from going down there to experience the swing though. My boyfriend and his doggie stayed at the top of the cliff and watched me climbed down to the beach. Yes, it was pretty treacherous. Thank goodness there was a rope with knots to hold onto. Otherwise, I don't think I would be able to do it successfully without that lifesaver rope. Thank you so much to whoever secured that rope there! Also, I do want to point out I did this in a dress and flipflops?! Crazy right.. Then again.. I'm crazy, I do admit it. ;) There were a four gals and guys down there chilling. I asked them if there was another way to get in and out of here, but they confirm that that was the only way in and out. I got to swing on the swing and took some videos. The swing looked cool from the photos that I seen, but it doesn't swing well straight. It does swing sideways. Lol... It took me about 7 minutes to go down and about 4 minutes to climb back up. I know this because my boyfriend recorded me. Lol... I'm very grateful that I was determined to do this despite the company that I had didn't want to do it. Years ago I let someone that I was with who didn't want to do it influence me to also not do it when we visitied Alamere Falls so I won't let that happen anymore. If there is something I want to do, it's okay to do it alone when other people don't want to do it. That's on self-love, baby! There is two parking areas. We initially parked in the one right across the post office, but then we follow this group to the other one right next to it because it was closer. We walked across the railroad tracks and found the opening to the climb to the beach. I was sore for a few days afterwards in my legs from climbing the side of the cliff, but oh gosh... It was so worth it!

And when I cruise down leisurely down this glorious highway, I won't just gun the vehicle and go from destination to destination. I like to randomly stop at little towns, beaches, roadhouse eateries that's dotted along the way. There are so many beaches on highway 1. I'm still exploring around myself. Pulled in onto this beach as they had a big parking area on the cliffside. This is in-between Santa Cruz and Half Moon Bay, super close to the road that you can take to go to Big Basin. This is not a lying around type of beach. It is very raw and very windy for some reason. Lots of seabirds on parts of the beach, lots of stranded seaweed and due to the wind, lots of white water surf. And a big attraction here actually is due to the surf and wind conditions. Lots of surfers and wind-surfers here that it'll catch your eye even from the highway. Wind surfers are these skilled and brave souls that go out in rough seawater with a parachute like apparatus connected to them, as so they can take flight and take leaps almost at bird level. And they are able to surf more waves without being pounded by rough waves, as they are able to jump from wave to wave via air/wind. Even tho it was too windy for me to sit out there for longer than 30 minutes, it was a blast watching these guys bounce and float around in what would otherwise be dangerous waters. I'm eventually going to knock out all the beaches from Santa Cruz to Half Moon Bay, and this one was a special one to knock out.

COR is effective. COR is for the entire family! We came to John when our 11-year-old daughter got a labral tear in her shoulder...and then an MCL tear in her knee. Dr. John Mullen has done an excellent job addressing both the physical and mental side of our daughter's injuries in a way that is age appropriate. John utilizes the best techniques for both pain management and rehabilitation including - soft tissue massage, laser therapy, e-stim, ultrasound, taping, and strengthening. He is extremely knowledgeable and is engaged in the latest research on sports injury and injury prevention. In treating our daughter John reached out to communicate with her Orthopedic specialist, swim coach, and school to ensure she had the best possible comprehensive recovery plan. As a mother, I am grateful that he sees and addresses our daughter's disappointment and fears regarding her injuries. He seems to know when she needs a gentle touch and when she needs a hard push. Other reviews are correct in saying that COR is like family. John & the COR team really care about the well-being of their clients. I was so impressed with John's approach with my daughter that it occurred to me that he might actually help me with my constant neck pain. So, I made an appointment following my daughter's and instead of sitting watching him treat my daughter, she sat and watched him treat me! Beyond soft tissue massage treatment, it was very helpful to talk through what I was doing throughout the day that made it worse/better and then make changes to my behavior. John also prescribed a realistic exercise plan that even I could follow through on while watching The Late Show with Steven Colbert. The pain is finally under control! After undergoing ACL and meniscus reconstruction 7 months ago, my hopes of returning to my previous swimming form were faltering. When I first came in to COR 3 months post-op, my main source of frustration was the fact that I felt as though my doctor and the other physical therapists I had been seeing had inadequate knowledge of the subtle biomechanics and physical demands of swimming. Whereas they were primarily concerned merely with return to everyday life and sport, Dr Mullen shared my goal of coming back even stronger than I was before. I especially appreciated the fact that he was also able to provide me with insight on ways to improve my performance not directly related to my knee. I have been with COR for more than 5 years now. COR is different. With their team approach to fitness, I feel so supported by all of the training staff and every member here. I feel welcomed as soon as I walk through the door and through the intense but fun workouts. The coaches are always checking in with me and pushing me to go deep and find the strength to finish strong. COR also works beyond the training center. There are Sunday hikes, monthly dinners, and community-based projects such as raising fundraisers for many organizations. we give back to the community whenever possible. COR works on the body and the spirit. COR is not just a gym. It's community that I love. we learn to focus on recovery and balance in life. Total SCAM! Went in for a fake 21-day free challenge they been marketing on social media, where 1-1 coaching and a nutrition class was being offered. I signed up and was asked to fill out forms online, talked with someone over the phone about the challenge to make sure I was their ideal candidate. Then, I was asked to go in person and talk to my "coach" for 30 minutes who tried to sell me 1-1 coaching in person lesson training stating "I don't coach for free", also stating the "21-day free challenge are all home workouts and i'd get a list. I still agreed for the free challenge and scheduled our 1 of 2 zoom calls for the next day. A few minutes later after leaving I get a call from their receptionist stating they're not offering a free 21-detox challenge its only for "paying" members. COR you wasted my time, your staff's time. This place lacks extreme organization. read more

For my husband, CoR bootcamp has been a very refreshing and rejuvenating experience. It is a daily morning mantra . After few months of regular exercise at CoR, he confidently signed up for SF Half Marathon and completed it successfully. It was a aha moment for the entire family . Along with the bootcamp, he started paying more attention to right postures and balanced nutrition. Needless to say , the friendly social environment at CoR was a boost as well. March mania and monthly challenges became the talk of the house . Be it Halloween Pumpkin carving, or weekend hiking or Christmas party, we have enjoyed all of it as a family. I went to COR for a long standing low back injury. I work at a computer or ~10 hours a day and for the past 5 years I've seen orthopedics, chiropractors, physical therapists, massage therapists...you name it! I went to COR since it was close to my work, but I'm really glad I didn't give up on my back pain and gave it a try! Dr. John not only improved my pain on the first session more than any other people I saw (some of who wanted to perform surgery on me), was able to completely resolve my pain, yes completely resolve it in 10 sessions! Now, I'm able to work and travel for business with no pain! I am also returning to basketball, something other medical personal told me I would never do again! Boot camp awesomeness!! I started at COR about a month ago, and I am already hooked. I have always been active, but I lacked guidance. COR provided me with detailed, customized, workouts under expert supervision, particularly designed with my personal goals in mind. The coaches are awesome, the fellow bootcampers are awesome, and this is where I get my morning boost by working out together. Everyone here are genuinely friendly and accommodating. Bootcamp sessions at 6:30 pm with Michael are always fun and high-energy with workouts that are challenging, but still accessible for people of all fitness levels. I've been a part of COR for more than 5 years now. In that time I've been able to get into great shape at boot camp, see Dr. John in PT to help me through a back problem, do one on one personal training with Dr. John, then start training with Coach Chris and a group of friends, and bring 3 other family members into COR for PT with Dr. John and Dr. Erin. COR has helped me with many services, from creating a dryland program for my swim team, to creating a community for parents in the boot camp, to helping me with my back pain. I hadn't heard of SMR (self myofascial release) before, but with just a tennis ball or baseball, I can pretty much give myself a massage and relieve most pain I'm feeling. Speaking of good and compassionate professionals, I would heartily recommend Peak Physical Therapy in Cupertino for several reasons: 1 - From the moment I walked through the door, I was made to feel like a welcomed member of a family. The first people I met were the receptionists and, truly, they were glad to see me. I received this same welcoming feeling every time I arrived for a session, not just from the receptionists but from everyone. 2 - Of note was that my therapist NEVER treated me as just another body in some production line. Yes, I have had that experience elsewhere. She focused completely on me, quickly assessing my needs and developing an efficient plan of stretching and strength building. She was always polite and engaging, the kind of person that you would treasure as a good friend. 3 - Also telling, the other patients seemed very happy to be there as well. Obviously, their needs were being met and hope for restoration was being fostered. And that is one of the great gifts that Peak has to offer: hope. But, of course, we, as patients have a role to play in our own recovery. 4 - There are a good number of aides to assist the P/Ts. Every aide I worked with was pleasant, courteous, professional, and really helpful if I had questions about an exercise or needed a bit of help getting a strap around my big shoes. 5 - The facility itself is spacious, well-lit, clean, and feels comfortable. Items, such as towels, pillows, the treatment tables, etc. are cleaned after each patient. They have their own washer/dryer. (Not for patient use, unfortunately.) In summary, please avoid trying to self-diagnose or form your own recovery plan. Let the professionals at Peak set you on the best road to recovery in a safe, efficient manner.

I was recently diagnosed with a "frozen" left shoulder (don't ask, it's just something that happens…read moreto us old folks). My range of motion was severely limited, and I couldn't do simple things like thread my belt through the back loops of my pants, or wash my back in the shower. My orthopedic surgeon recommended physical therapy, so I called Silver Creek Physical Therapy in Sunnyvale and made an initial appointment. At the initial appointment, administrative coordinator Shelia took all of my information and scheduled 11 weekly 1-hour sessions for me, all in less than 5 minutes. Extremely efficient and professional. Over the next several weeks, I worked with Josephine, one of Silver Creek's several knowledgeable, skilled and accredited Doctors of Physical Therapy, going through a prescribed regimen of stretching and strengthening exercises. Using the Silver Creek website, I was assigned a plan of exercises to do at home, as well. Josephine and her staff were gentle, personable and professional, gradually getting me from debilitating pain to manageable pain to nuisance pain to almost a complete recovery. I had my last session today. I estimate I'm 98% recovered, and I plan on continuing to work at home to conquer the remaining 2% range of motion (mainly reaching behind the back and upwards, which they tell me is the last and hardest to recoup). Nobody asks for pain or physical problems in life. But if you have them, and you want to get better in a hurry, I highly recommend Silver Creek Physical Therapy in Sunnyvale!
