I went to CoproGallery on the fifth year anniversary of my best friend's death. He always loved art and checking out various galleries. There was a work of art that I had my eye on for the past few years. I didn't see it displayed, so I asked the person managing the front desk if it was still available. Fortunately, it was. He allowed me to speak to the owner over the phone regarding the price. The owner, Erica, was very pleasant and patient, and answered all my questions. She also gave me a discount off the work. Because there was LA county tax which had to be added, she gave me a better discount than the one she originally quoted to the front desk employee. It was especially generous of her, since I was a first time buyer and not a repeat customer. They don't bother you or hover over you at the Copro Gallery; you're free to take your time and browse. This place is meh to me. I was confused on where the exhibit I was looking for was and I had to walk over to the map which was located on a big bulletin board opposite the way I was! I wish they had more signs up throughout this maze of a place. I was walking with a group of people that were all lost besides my friends. It has a lot of bungalows with different artists but I wasn't feeling it there. I came there to see the opening to Amy Sol's Buffet of Wilderness and it was great to see her work but I was hoping for a more fun opening like the one at Beyond Eden. Hopefully her next opening will have some DJ spinning for a lively vibe. Maybe I was looking for a party. I just prefer not to come here. read more

I came here to see the SALEM exhibition by Damien Echols, Menton3, and David Stoupakis. The exhibition was phenomenal! Seeing Damien, Menton, and David in person was the most surreal part of the surrealistic art exhibition. My legs went to jelly when looking Damien in the eye. He smiled at me after that; and that's when I had to pinch myself. I didn't get a photo with Damien (who I came to see in person) because he was too busy doing business and I was too much of a wuss to go say hi. Hey, at oeast we made eye contact and smiled at each other. I didn't know they had celebrity fans...Rick Baker, Sir Peter Jackson, and Twiggy Ramirez were there! The artwork itself was fantastic! The prices were too high for my wallet. The gallery itself was clean and well kept...which I appreciated. It is a bit tight though, but it is bigger than I thought it would be. I thought it was going to he a square box room...nope there is a narrow lobby type of space and then two box rooms. The parking situation sucks! My BF and I had no idea where to park, so we parked by the side of the building. I was praying we wouldn't get towed. I will definitely have to come back and see what else Copro has to offer. read more

Located in the Bergamot Station, this small gallery is located all the way in the back. The gallery itself is sectioned off into two rooms. Two very packed rooms. But hey, it's opening day and it's Audrey Kawasaki. If you have never seen her stuff, Audrey Kawasaki does the most amazing art. It's feminine, erotic, creepy, delicate all in one. Like me! Ok maybe not. sorry. One of my friends bought a painting and it came framed and Audrey even drew a little picture on the back of it. So cute! I think the prints range from $300 - $600 while the originals ran a little bit more. I was really tempted to buy something last night. I'm kinda mad that I didn't because according to the Copro Nason website, everything is completely sold out at the moment so if you want a print... you're outta luck. 5 stars despite the crowd cuz you know I like the hipster boys. read more

This is a great little gallery located in the huge Bergamont Station complex and it's a little tricky to find. T5 is the building # and it's off to the far left when you drive into the parking lot. Actually it's the gallery furthest in the back to the East. Once a month they have an opening reception w/ free beer and wine until 11:30pm. It's a very basic set up w/ 3 separate rooms, one used as the foyer. They always have some really interesting artists, usually 2-3 per show, and lots of people to chat with. The owner and staff are very friendly and helpful, giving recommendations for other galleries to visit. They get some pretty popular artists like Joe Vaux, Chas Christian, Shag, Craola, Ed "Big Daddy" Roth, Luke Chueh, and Mark Ryden. Most of the time the artist is there to answer questions (and hopefully sell something). I alway enjoy coming here and try to spread the word to friends. An awesome gallery - I braved the traffic on the 405 to get here. It actually turned out to be not too bad. They're located in a complex of a bunch of other galleries. Of course, I unknowingly parked at the far end from the gallery and had to walk to the other end looking for it. But it was all worth it. The gallery shows a lot of alternative, lowbrow, outsider type of art which is just amazing to see in person. The people there are also super friendly. Someday, I hope to be able to attend one of their show openings. read more

A good portion of my art collection was purchased at Copro Nason. A lot of big time artists have shown here and they consistently have great showings. It's a much bigger space now than the last one, so they usually have a much wider variety of paintings, etc to drool over. The manager Gary has always been really good to me and very helpful. Copro Nason is definitely one of my favorite galleries in LA. It's a great place to score on up and coming artists as well as established ones. read more

This is a gallery that caters to a very specific art community. If you are a fan of artists that frequent the pages of "High Fructose" or "Juxtapose" then you will want to become a patron. The shows are always very crowded ... and it's not the easiest gallery to navigate when a million bodies are smooshed inside--but you don't go to the shows for space ... you go to get up close to work you appreciate. And the gallery never fails to throw spectacular shows. Artists I've seen at the gallery: Audrey Kawasaki, Amy Sol, Travis Louie, Dan May, Brian M. Viveros. Their collaborative & group shows tend to be outstanding. Just be prepared to work your way through a crowd ... but it's usually worth it. read more

With an eye to pop culture, Copro Nason is one of the best in LA. I attended their Tiki Show about 4 years ago when they were in Culver City, and it was one of the best art shows I've ever been to. I got to meet the legendary Leon Schmaltz who signed a tiki for me! From Ed "Big Daddy" Roth on through to oceanic art, Copro Nason might not always be my cup of tea, but they always get points for originality and effort. Good indie gallery, solidly curated. And the fact that they're noe ensconced in the trendy Bergamot Station nly adds to the allure. It's a great place to hang on a lazy Sunday afternoon, eating at the cafe, perusing the galleries. read more

My wife and I try to go when we can and make a day out of it: Head out to 3rd Street Promenade or eat somewhere in L.A. and then come to the gallery to end the night with some trippy art exhibits. What's not to love... went there recently for the Camilla D'Errico Solo Show. Two rooms, one holding the exhibition (Camilla) and the other showing a bunch of different artists. Very entertaining and nice lookin gallery (ive been to many) They had a very unique band performing...i dont even know how to describe the sound...but very artsy lookin folk, it was a n older man on a cello i believe and his partner and older woman singing. They were dressed almost in costume. The woman looked a but "freaky" or spooky...all dressed in black with a pale face and red lipstick. it was cool though, something kinda spooky yet you can't turn away from looking. they had a crew of goth looking kids near them about 4 young ppl. standing by watch to show support, but it looked like they were a family...with the couple who performed. Good set up, great art, festive atmosphere and nice location. They were also selling some stuff like t-shirts and collectible figurines. They had drinks and also cake. read more

Great gallery for the intermediate art enthusiast. I have been here twice now for Joe Ledbetter opennings, and both were great! the gift shop/souvenir area is well organized and the staff is always friendly. They even offered to get the print I purchased dedicated to me by the artist the last time .. It was such a great experience. I enjoy the smaller gallery expereiences since they are more personable and eager to get you into the art. a hidden gem for sure. In a bit of a sketchy looking area, but don't be fooled, it is a great area full of galleries and the Santa Monica Art Museum! read more

this was my first time at this particular gallery, there to see the audrey kawasaki solo exhibit. it's located wayyyyyy in the back at bergamot station, in space T5. when i first pulled into the parking lot, i saw a steady stream of people walking in to the first gallery on the left, which had a "5" prominently displayed above it. thinking that was the gallery, i walked right in and made my way to the bar. a nice variety of different energy drink flavors, and your choice of vodka or tequila as a mixer. yes, i know i called the alcohol the mixer. make drinks my way, and you'll understand. nice. free drinks! anyway, after watching a steady stream of hipsters standing mesmerized in front of weird light sculptures and accompanying music, it slowly sank in that i might be in the wrong gallery. i walked back out front, and saw that i was in "D5." oops. a quick look at the map in the parking lot, and off i went to find "T5." it's a pretty nice little space, but i wish a few details had been a bit nicer. the roll-out bar with a pump keg and bottles of two buck chuck in a plastic ice tub felt a bit frat party-esque, but as with a frat party, it's hard to complain because the booze was free and the artsy gals were cute. the exhibit itself was nicely laid out, with some sculpture in the foyer, one room dedicated to prints, and one to original pieces. five bajillion stars to audrey kawasaki and her art, because it's amazing. i've always been a fan of precision graphite media, and the oils she overlays almost like watercolors on wood are really evocative. here again, i wish the gallery had planned things a bit better, because when audrey got there, she was basically pinned to the entry wall by a crush of admirers seeking autographs (myself included), and it was hard not to feel sympathy for her, especially after our intrepid hostess waffles h. told me that she's a bit of a recluse. showing true character, however, audrey graciously doodled and signed on each piece put before her...even the free fliers. an incredibly talented class act, that lady, and it shows in her following, because ALL of the displayed pieces (both original and print) were sold out before the exhibit even opened! overall, 3 stars for the gallery, but plus one star for having the vision to host audrey's solo show, and plus one star for that amazing feeling that artists can give you with their art. oh, and another star for being able to share it with great friends. crap. i'm outta stars to click on. anybody got a red crayon? read more

If you love low-brow art or Ed "Big Daddy" Roth than this is the place for you. Hell, Douglas Nason even helped write and curate an entire book on Rat Fink. There are always great shows here, especially for people like me who think that great art started with Ed Roth and Robert Williams. Hands down, this is my favorite gallery in Los Angeles. So many local galleries can come off as pretentious and too much of a "scene". I'm sure my taste in art just happens to fall in line with what Copro shows, but I always feel like they have the best openings. The people that run the gallery, Gary and Erica, are extremely friendly and incredibly knowledgeable about the art and artists. As an art collector myself, I'd say that at least 30-40% of my pieces have come from here. They've also been great at introducing me to the artists personally. I now consider many of them to be close friends. This gallery truly understands the concept of art being for everyone. No attitude or mind games. Just friendly faces and amazing art! read more

Awesome gallery, nestled at the far end of Bergamont Station in Santa Monica. It took a little bit of wandering to find it, so if you do go, keep this in mind, or look on the map and remember I told you its in the back corner. It caters to low-brow, pop and surrealist art, and we came here for the Conjoined 2 exhibit, which was AH-MAZING. It ended this week so Im sorry if you missed it. I saw so many pieces here I adored, ones not necessarily a part of the exhibit. Even Ian, who tends to be a heavy critic and sometimes hard to please art fan, loved it here. So many things to adore. There are two showing rooms and the small main lobby has fun stuff on display and gorgeous paintings on the wall behind the front desk. I will be back in March for the Leslie Ditto solo show. Super excited for that one, as I actually discovered her at Copro and now I'm obsessed with her. Muah!! read more

One of my favorite galleries in LA.. Always fantastic low brow and pop surrealist shows with big name artists and new talent. They're always switching things up for openings to keep things interesting--from food trucks to large screen projections and killer bands--it's always great. For a recent opening Coheed and Cambria did a live perfomance ouside on the court yard. read more
