Giant Robot is always a great time to stop by whenever I am in the area. I am apart of their email list and get notifications when they do events. I love the fact that they do events and already follow a lot of the artists they showcase. Everyone who works here is also super sweet and are able to answer most if not all of my questions. I always enjoy coming back here and seeing what new pieces they have up! Another thing I really enjoy is the fact that they try and sell really unique and interesting things. You will find shirts, totes and art books, but you have the options for throw blankets and tiles. You can really tell that they try and keep their store interesting and I appreciate it! If you have the chance, make the trip!

Giant Robot 2 is a first rate art gallery selling original anime style works. I always make a point of checking out their latest exhibits. Fresher and more original than anything you'd find at Bergamont Art center for a fraction of the price.

The art gallery is located in the center of Sawtelle area, and it usually closes early and opens for special exhibits. They have a lot interesting glass artistic works and few paintings as well.

Bruh f this place. Waste my time. I drove here from OC to see this place and got here by 11:50am. The sign on the door says they don't open until they finish live streaming. I waited until 1215pm and decided to leave cause who knows when they will finish live streaming. Waste my time, gas, energy. fck this place.

Came here for an art show opening and it was great. They had food! They also have comedy night here. Not sure if I will ever check it out as the place is sooo small, I don't understand where people will sit. A lot of cute things for sale and in the heart of Little Osaka so tons of good food and Marshalls and Michaels is nearby, plus Starbucks.

I hate that I can't go inside the store

I always have to stop at giant robot whenever I'm in the area. I was just happy they were open ! I mean kind of open. They had a canopy tent with three tables outside couple shirts pins weird and random stuff . That's like their thing. Still one of my most favorite stores can't wait till I can go back inside. Another place with one of a kind items .You can go on their website and pick things up if you're local but you can't go in the store .

This is a block down from Giant Robot and is more of their ART GALLERY which has some retail sales of prints, books and other merchandise. I like GR1 up the street more for shopping, but this is a great compliment in GR2 is a nice place to look at things almost like an art gallery or museum with many special events. If you go to GR1 you have to come here to GR2 and vice versa!

An hour just before closing!! Katsuya Terada's solo show GIRLS

Following closely to gallery Nucleus in Alhambra is another great gallery: Giant Robot. Note: This gallery does not feature a giant robot. The people here are very personable and are always ready to answer any questions you have! They often have a great line up in their small space, and I'm finally happy I got the opportunity to go to the Katsuya Terada's show 'GIRLS' before they closed! He apparently does shows with them every year, and had signed and sketched in copies of his book availible in the store (which I had to get)! The space is quite small but humble and it with all the local and independent artist wares and prints for sale, there's a special charm to this place. They have a pretty good selection of books, and some neat prints! Street parking is available as well as a parking structure a few blocks from there. There is plenty to do on Sawtelle, as it has a line of of Japanese eateries, clothes stores, and little shops along its streets! It's almost like little tokyo but 'little-er'! Similar to little tokyo in LA this place has a Daiso, Curry House, rotating sushi bar and a Japanese market. There's various Japanese restaurants and a honeyme! There are also interesting looking clothes stores and modern gift shops like Black Market to wander in and explore. There's alot of this small place has to offer, so stop by and hang out for the day! Make sure to make Giant Robot gallery a stop!

Fun! Fun! Fun! Fun little shop with all the unique collectibles, toys, books, did I say all the fun stuff? lol If you like art, this is a great place for the different kinds of gadget. It's one of those Japanese gift shops but with a kick!

I love being surprised here! Stopped by the other day after lunch and saw some really cool stuff by the artist Theo Ellsworth. Stop by anytime and support a local business that does more than pedal good books and art, this place can be downright inspiring! See ya there!

4/5 stars for location. GR2 is cool little gallery located in an exceptional neighborhood, surrounded by Japanese and Mexican restaurants with plenty of sidewalk parking. Show runs: Manga Girls Dec 17th, 2016 - Jan 11th, 2017 About: I came to see my friend Katsuya Terada solo exhibition Manga girls which was amazing. He's best known as a character-designer for the animated film Blood: The Last Vampire. He has also done work related to American comics, such as Iron Man and Hellboy (one of his illustrations was used for an official statuette of Hell boy). He also made additional contributions to early issues of Nintendo Power, including a special edition Strategy Guide for Dragon Warrior and artwork for The Legend of Zelda. In Japan, he has done the promotional illustrations for Detective Saburo Jinguji mystery-adventure video game series. He was in charge of the book cover and illustrations for the Kimaira series written by Baku Yumemakura, and was in charge of cover design and illustrations for Garouden, Shin Majugari, and Yamigarishi as well. ART SHOW: Katsuya displayed his ink & pen drawings that featured his famous manga style. Also a couple of his vinyl toys that were pretty cool. His work is priced at $300 on up and featured on canvas, paper, and vinyl. The food offered by the artist was free an a smorgasbord of sushi, cookies, waters, and sodas which was impressive. I thought about making a plate and just having dinner here ha ha! A great show by an incredible artist an I highly recommend it! Gallery: Is small an intimate and they sell art trinkets with their logo on it. T-shirts, stickers, and art books. The Giant robot store is right across the street which sells toy collectibles. Parking: You can park in the surrounding neighborhood for free or the paid meters. Also just around the corner for $5 you can also park. Food: Plenty of restaurants to choose from that are all in walking distance, like Japanese sushi, ramen, and tufu houses. There's also a taco restaurants check them out on Yelp.

GIANT ROBOT TRANSFORM!!! Giant Robot 2 shows and sells inspiring art that moves the mind and soul. While the name Giant Robot may trigger ideas of something mechanical in nature... The art pieces here come from honest hearts and places of human beauty. To me, the idea of a "Giant Robot" represents a concept of super natural wonder and excitement from a child. I believe that this notion is reflected in the items for sale in this store. The right kind of art can carry a lot of good that goes beyond monetary value. Certain images can take you back to a time of happiness, maybe it reflects hope for the future, or maybe it just looks dam good in your living room. You will not find highly commercialized or generic items from big corporate America here. Most of the items are one of a kind from very talented artists. Paintings, books, pins, trinkets, posters, prints, ceramics... I think it is safe to say Marie Kondo would not throw out any of these items since they all spark joy. The products are all very tasteful. It taste so good that friends or dates who see it may drop panties because they knew the artist from instagram... who knows. Perhaps that's why they sell out pretty quickly. The idea of art and commerce always is an interesting subject. Who gives it value? Is it worth the cost? Can I afford it? To all these questions I say 'Yes' "Yes!" to Giant Robot!!!

Walked in, liked some things and bought some things. As we were ready to leave we noticed the wall in the back with the art displays. They have a beautiful piece with what looks like a woman in a turban or headpiece. They also have it painted on the wall. Considering it's permanently on the wall, think safe assumption, the woman behind desk would know the history of the painting. She said she didn't. And not in an I just work here kind of way but in a snobby tone. We got the impression she judged a book by its cover...like I said we were in gym clothes. She made it clear she had no interest in wasting her time on us. I'd like to go back and support the independent artists but not at the cost of a snob. I asked because I was interested in purchasing the painting but not after that encounter.

And my recent trip to the Downtown LA Art Walk was exactly that a collection of techniques, practices, talents, mediums, and modes of communication that came together and landed to create an amorphous experience that was shaped, like clay, to create visual and sensory craftwork. There were different galleries offering different works. I will begin this review by naming some of my favorite. There was this gallery showing photography that was enhanced, played, or showcased light and that is where I found the dinosaurs of Cabezon come to life by the angles of a camera. I clipped the picture of the drawing (art inception) and it shows a long neck dinosaur that I want to call a jirrafasuaraus but I know that is wrong, walking toward a twilight colored horizon-- where the low of the sky was orange, layered above by a lemon-yellow strip of sky, then followed a soften almost transparent orange, with the rest of the sky being a early evening blue. I could not tell that the picture was fake. I do not want to say that I thought that Jurrasic Park was real, but, the picture did make me feel that the dessert has seen dinosaurs walking toward lovely sunsets. Another favorite was a negative of a picture of what looked like a swan floating in water that was completely black, like a swan swimming on black construction paper. But the only visible parts of the swan was is feathered body, its long neck, and regal tail. I could not see its eyes, I could not see its beak, I could not see its crest up high. The swan was averting the lens of the camera and yet the beauty of the swan was evident because its pure white ruffles were silent against a black backdrop. I could continue naming the pieces I like and why, but then the artwalk would becoming an art viewing. So I will conclude that I also saw a woman wearing a ruffled vest that dragged to the floor. It was inconvenient and kind of bulky, and maybe drag dirt along the train, but this was also art. I point that out because the show attracted people with style, and style on a body, is art, as everyone knows. There was also an apartment building that opens its doors. It offered a fondue fountain, chocolate, pool table, blackjack, and a giant arcade machine where one could play spade invader or pac-man. So the engagement level of Art Walk expanded to art one could make on the spot. And if you wonder how one makes art at a pool table--- then I suggest seeing a video of a player using a stick to make a ball jump to avoid one ball and hit the other. The movement is a type of ballet jump (a piroutte) that is prompted by a stick propulsion. If that is not artistic expression, then, a person living in a glass box suspended in air above the ground isn't either. As I walked the streets of LA, I also saw a truck that had four spotlights. I have always seen events that are signaled out by spotlights but now I know that these spotlights are ambulatory, and kind of, yes, art in their own way. They rose lights to the buildings side and to the night sky. The movement was a type of dance light, and I defy anyone to prove me wrong because at its core, art can never be truly define by words because, on its own, its a visual language.

The contrast between the historical monuments and the contemporary responses is powerful. It's not an easy exhibition, and that's the point. It invites reflection, discomfort, and dialogue.
