Run down and dirty... We've been staying at this same place for like 13 years. We always get the same 3 bedroom condo. I used to recommend it because the location is great, but not anymore. In all the years we've been coming, they have never updated anything. It's grimey and dirty. The couch cushions and carpet need to be replaced BADLY as well as the rest of the cabin needs to be updated and refreshed with new bedding and curtains. Again, location is great. Recently stayed at Copper King Lodge, the place is vintage to put it nicely. This place earns the award for charging outrageous prices for the worst sleep you'll ever experience. The bed mattress must be as old as the wood paneling in the room. Only reason I give it a 2-star is the location relative to the ski lift it's convenient, other than that hope they don't impose a 4-night minimum as they did us! read more

The accommodations here are top notch, you will want for nothing! We cooked an entire Thanksgiving dinner in the full size kitchen, ain't no thang but a turkey wang! Seriously I'm impressed, such a clean, efficient two bedroom cabin right in the heart of Red River. Our cabin had two televisions with cable, wifi, shower and tub, sun deck complete with fire pit, BBQs and the stars of this show...day and night visits from deer and ducks on parade, I made friends that I will never forget! The mountain hiking and river 30 feet from your back door is priceless. There are kick your butt steep mountain hikes, or easy river walks, wheelchair access paths all the way up down the river, literally something for everyone of any age. This is clearly the best place in town to stay, we will be back time and time again. read more

Buyer beware! We booked this venue 2 years ago and left a substantial deposit for the BBQ/Music festival for August 2020. The festival was canceled due to Covid. We let the deposit ride. This year we had a death in the family and cannot attend the festival this year. When contacting Copper Creek this year, they advised that they could NOT refund us anything as they don't honor cancellations past one year. They never called or advised us of these terms, and simply plan to screw us out of the entire deposit!!! This organization is unethical and deceptive. The Bookings.com ad stated my room had a deck that lead to the river. There was a window overlooking but no direct access. I paid more thinking it had that feature. We discussed with management and they said booking.com made that statement not them. I was lied to by one of the them and it doesn't matter which. I won't do business with either in the future. Be sure that if you reserve a room here, you are 1,000% sure you are able to make your trip as planned. If not there is NO chance of cancelling without getting charged. My husband and I plan a trip to Red River once a year for our birthdays which are 2 weeks apart and have always stayed at Copper King. But this year, his grandfather had a stroke on my birthday, the day before we were set to arrive in Red River. I called to reschedule or cancel the trip and explained our situation. I was told by Cindy, the not so friendly woman at the front desk, that there is ZERO chance of canceling without being charged the full reservation amount UNLESS someone else rents the room, in which case the Copper King would STILL KEEP 20% of the full reservation amount. Seeing as I was getting nowhere on the telephone conversation with this woman, I hung up and emailed hoping an owner would intervene and cut us a break. The owner Clay intervened alright, to the tune of 5 back and forth emails explaining to me in a super condescending manner why he could not cancel my reservation or reschedule without charging me a fee, he said that I expected HIM to personally lose out due to my misfortune. I grew tired of the back and forth and blocked his communications. Long story short, even if you have an emergency this place WILL NOT cut you any slack. You CANNOT RESCHEDULE. If you must cancel and they rent out the room you had reserved they STILL CHARGE YOU AND KEEP 20% of your reservation amount. It seems to me that THEY are the ones who personally profit off of YOUR misfortune, as they did in our case. My husbands grandfather passed away 2 days later. It would have been nice to be able to have a trip to look forward to once the dust settled from the situation, but no such luck. Long story short, book elsewhere. Buyer Beware!! Copper King Lodge partakes in BAD Business practices!! If you are looking to stay in Red River, NM, think twice before booking a room at this lodge. I made a reservation for the Required 3-night stay and was not able to keep the reservation due to family medical issues. I canceled within the required timeframe and was told by the office manager if they were not able to rent the room, I would lose my deposit. If they did rent the room I would be charged 20% of the deposit and the remainder refunded. I called the morning of check in to see if the room had been rented, and was told it was not. I called again later that afternoon and was told once again the room had not been rented. I asked about the possibility of coming up the following day for the remaining two nights and was then told Oh.... the room has been rented for Friday and Saturday night. I asked about the possibility of being refunded the difference of one-night stay and the deposit. To which I was told Oh No we won't be able to refund any of the deposit because we didn't fill the whole reservation. So the cost of this room for one night was $144.00 and they kept ALL of the $288.00 deposit because they couldn't rent the room for the One night. I asked why I was held to a 3-night minimum but the new renters were not, and allowed to rent for only 2 nights! I told the clerk I felt this was a very bad business practice to keep $288.00 because they lost out on one night rental of $144.00. The clerk stated there was nothing she could do. Later that day I received an email to explain that the additional funds were applied to cleaning and the time it took to cancel the reservation. I wonder what additional cleaning was needed since they supposedly never rented the room!! My parents lived in Red River when I was born and ran Three Canyon Camp. They would have never thought of cheating their customers and bent over backward to accommodate them in any way they could. The times have certainly changed! I do know there are good business owners in Red River, I don't believe Copper King is one of them! read more

Great place! I've been coming to Red River for years and this was my first time staying here, and I will definitely stay again! We arrived at midnight on Thanksgiving Day and our key was waiting for us. The customer service is top notch! One review I read complained of noise, but we didn't have any issues with that at all. Hot tub was awesome, fire pit every night was awesome, and the location was awesome. You are right in the middle of everything. We rented a one bedroom and it was nicer than the pictures online. There were deer and ducks that came up to us and let us feed them! The copper lift was closed since only half the mountain was open, so we weren't able to ski in/out, but the main lift is just a few short blocks away so it was no big deal. I could go on and on about how great this place is! We will be back! read more

First of all the lady in the office was very nice and friendly. I stayed in the motel section and made a very last minute reservation. The room was very clean, basic and what you would expect in a resort small town in the mountains, The reason for the two stars - this building has less than paper thin walls. I was downstairs and could hear everything from the room above, I even heard the other guest brushing his or her teeth. I hate to be that person because I loved Red River, but I'm sure you guys will appreciate to know this, this place has bedbugs ! When we reported it, they were nice enough to change us to a different room right away. That morning my boyfriend told me that he was getting bit by something when he woke up and again after a nap. We finally started to look around the room and noticed that there was some sort of treatment (white powder) under the bed, the mattress were covered with the plastic wrap that is made for bedbugs...and I looked up and there was a nasty big adult well fed bedbug. We have a picture of the bedbug we saw in the room and when we took it to the front office they moved us to a different room. We went back to ask if we could get our laundry done right away, they refused refunded our money and told us to leave, they tried to blame us. This was a bad experience. We couldn't go anywhere else because we didn't want to be running around trying to find a place to stay and felt disgusting and itchy, with no clothing and no where to get new stuff. Ruined our vacation and had to toss all our stuff away, drove home super late and itching. Please check your room well before you unpack. read more

This place is awesome! My hubby and I spent a week at this place in July. It is quiet and peaceful and completely relaxing! I would highly recommend this place if you're in Red River. We stayed in one of the efficiencies and it was plenty of room for us. We utilized the fridge and microwave to save money on food. The beds were comfy and the bathroom was clean. The free WiFi was a welcome perk. The only down side was that no pets were allowed! read more

Enjoyed our stay in a comfortable two bedroom cabin, fireplace, nice full kitchen, bath with shower/ tub, plenty of towels. Our bedroom door opened up to the creek side and was steps from the water. The wildlife was at our back door, plenty of deer, ducks and the hummingbirds were plentiful. There are grills, swing seats, horse shoes for all to enjoy. Hike up the mountain or take a mini hike from your cabin. Cabin was very clean as were the upholstered furniture and bedspreads. Very comfortable. read more
