El Monte Sagrado - Snapped this beautiful picture at night. Every part of resort had beautiful photo op.

So surprised with all these negative reviews. We had a wonderful weekend in this hotel…read more The valet and staff were helpful, quick and attentive. The rooms were beautiful and clean, really cute fireplace in the room and the balcony opens to the yard which we could see snow out of! The overall grounds are gorgeous and well kept, staff at the front desk were also very friendly and helpful giving us directions and popular spots to see around Taos. They had hot coffee, tea, and bottled water for us to take at any time. It was my partner's birthday, someone came up and hand delivered chocolate strawberries free of charge to the room as well as a card and we dined at the restaurant for dinner and they gave us free dessert and little free macaroons in a to go bag. Talk about above and beyond service. Lovely time 10/10, only complaint was the food in the restaurant was 7-8/10 taste for $$$ prices but all in all great experience.

The premises were beautiful with peaceful native American music playing over the intercom. The resort was perfect as it was accommodating to our young children and dog. The staff was great and they went out of their way to provide us with whatever we needed. The rooms were decent in size and the decor was apropos to southwestern style. The resort dining was delicious. The only thing I wish I had more time to enjoy is their spa services. I did not have enough time to enjoy a spa treatment. Overall I highly recommend this resort and look forward to returning.

The property is stunningly beautiful with a restorative, peaceful vibe. The checkin process was…read moreeasy, and initial communication clear. Staff was smiley and kind, though not very personal. We've been to other B&Bs where the personal touches really made the stay. Our first night, we slept okay. The bed wasn't the most comfortable and was pretty creaky. The pillows are plentiful but all flat pancakes. The water pressure was sad, and it took over 30 minutes to fill above the jets in the tub so we could use it. Also, we checked everywhere for a spare roll of TP when we ran out the second night, but there was none. We also had some trouble with spiders in the tub both mornings. We were greeted at breakfast by the host (never got her name), who was sweet and friendly, but it was clear there was chaos in the kitchen. Both mornings, breakfast was delicious, but it took well over an hour to be served. The second morning it was clear they'd run out of several things, which was disappointing when watching other tables get their food and ours was different and kind of sad by comparison (even though we arrived at 9:15, 45 min before it ends). I totally understand things happen, but when you're a bed and breakfast, the bed should be comfortable and the breakfast should be available quickly and efficiently so you can go about your day. I can see why others have had such wonderful experiences here, and the property truly is gorgeous and relaxing, but overall it was more of a miss for us compared to other places we've stayed.

The rooms were fantastic, comfortable and very clean. I was fortunate enough to have stayed in 2 different rooms, one in the Hacienda (Puerta Azul) and one of the Casitas (Puerta Roja) both were excellent. The food each morning was amazing, fresh and delicious. I've already booked my next stay here and can't wait to get back.

Coffee was great, actually better than several of the cafes in the surrounding area. Room was comfortable. We were fortunate to have gotten an upgrade which included a small refrigerator which was great for the multi day stay. We hung out in lobby and enjoyed the nightly live music. Staff was great, both at desk, in adobe bar and housekeeping/maintenance. Only bummer was that Doc Martin, the onsite restaurant was only open days we already had plans. Note for weekday stays, check that restaurants are actually open before heading out on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday, even if recommended by front desk.

I had been thinking of going somewhere but didn't know where until I read the New York Times Travel…read more36 Hours in Santa Fe article and decided right then that I would go to New Mexico. That night I booked my flight, rented a car and three days later off I went. I didn't make hotel reservations because I didn't know where I was going to wind up and since I was going by myself, I just winged it. I arrived in Albuquerque got my car and drove to Taos. What should have been a two-and-a-half-hour drive turned into a six plus hour drive because I made so many stops, checking out random towns (La Cienega, NM, Ohkay Owingeh NM) along the way. The landscape between Albuquerque and Taos is beautiful with dramatic transitions from high desert mesas and arid badlands to lush river valleys and the towering Sangre de Cristo Mountains. I got to Taos and went to Taos Plaza and Taos Pueblo. I eventually got a room at The Historic Taos Inn and spent the night there. The Historic Taos Inn is a charming, cozy Southwestern vibe Inn located in the heart of Taos. My room was super cute, comfortable and nicely decorated. Since I was alone, I wasn't out at night exploring (there's not much nightlife in Taos) so I parked myself on a couch in the lobby, got caught up on some reading/writing, people watched and mapped out where I would be going the next three days. The staff were incredibly nice, offering suggestions as to points of interest. There's a restaurant/bar located on the property with a cute little outdoor patio area. I only spent a night there, but I felt safe/comfortable at the Historic Taos Inn and it was fine for what I needed. I left the next day after a morning of exploring and continued on my road trip. I would stay here again.

For those who live in the Denver area it's only 4+ hours drive. I got to talk to the owner (the husband of the married couple) just this morning when I was having an Avocado Toast in the dining room. He worked in the corporate America for 25+ years. When he got tired of it he and his wife bought this hotel. It had been abandoned by the previous owner for some time so after he had purchased it he renovated the entire premises to turn it into what is now today. He and his wife certainly have great tastes in everything as the charm they created is simply bonita. Depending on the room you choose, it's equipped with a beautiful copper bath tub that can easily hold two people. The water that comes out of the faucet is pure, twice filtered deep aquifer well water. And the healing power of cooper will ease all sorts of aches and pains. The exquisiteness of soaking in such a tub is of an experience you can't enjoy at home. If you end up staying here, eating breakfast in the designated dining room is a must. They grow their own vegetables in their garden which is served in most of the dishes listed on the menu. At night, enjoy stargazing in the parking lot or the outdoor fireplace just right outside of the dining room. The number of stars you can gaze upon makes your stay more memorable and mesmerizing. Giving this place 5 stars is a humiliation; it deserves at least 10 or more stars. This place is that great. I can't wait to come back here. I might do that maybe next weekend (lol!!)

The only minor inconvenience is the lack of power outlets in the room. We've stayed here twice and will definitely be back next time we come to Taos!

I am enchanted…read more Greeted by a cozy entry courtyard with dim warm light and a lovely carved door, I walked into a foyer with a live tree growing from the ground. I love that. New Mexican design details throughout with flames in the fireplace. Got my key and placed my breakfast order. I booked the "Romantic" room (unit 1) because I'm dating myself and I deserve it. I took full advantage of the dual shower heads in the spacious shower designed for two. I loved snuggling up in one of the big lounge chairs by the fireplace. I called Aji (local Peruvian restaurant) and they delivered paella, empanadas, and the most delightful passion fruit cheesecake. My lounge chair doubled as a dining chair with the little table. Dinner by the fire was just what the doctor ordered. Comfy king size bed and lots of pillows just for me, the prettiest heated marble floors in the bathroom, a ceiling fan for white noise, and then right on time: a light knock on the door. Time for breakfast! Breakfast was divine. A beautiful frittata with wild mushrooms, spinach, and feta. What a lovely end to my stay. Thank you Zachary for making my stay a perfect, safe getaway. Notes about COVID safety: Thumbs up. Zachary sent me a text guiding me with an optional contact-free checkin. It was simple and he still found ways to make me feel welcome and taken care of. In the morning my breakfast was placed at my front door in a basket and I didn't need to sign anything. I left cash in the room for a tip.

This may be a gem as the other reviews eluded to, but we weren't gonna stick around to find out…read more We booked the bed and breakfast in advance based on pics and reviews prior to our New Mexico vacation plans. On our way in through Taos, it was blatantly obvious there is a significant drug use (meth...opiates, maybe more) issue. Just getting gasoline on the way out subjected us to no less than 8 substance abusers in various states of consciousness sitting on the curb in front of the door. The drive to Palacio De Marquesa takes you off the main road and down a small residential street. It's a very odd location and made us both audibly question ourselves and each other for where we had chosen to stay. While dodging potholes in the road, you must also be careful to dodge the obvious substance abusers walking in the middle of the street. Turning onto a dirt, driveway width, even smaller, two track style street, we arrived at the open gate of our destination. We'd be remiss not to address the "walkable area" assertions, because this is not that. Not unless you want to walk to the auto junk yard a few doors down or walk with/by the aforementioned locals. Entering the gate, we saw medium height masonry walls surrounding a sprawling site of "out buildings". There was an impression the walls were erected to keep out those we passed walking on the road and at the gas station. The facility appeared very nice, manicured and clean but definitley didn't scream...spend a night! When the other reviews cite how quiet it was, it was so quiet it was eery. You'd think you could just walk into the lobby, but you'd be wrong. Having to be personally let into the locked and secured main door of the common space office/main building just doesn't create that welcoming vibe. The young staff lady was very nice, polite, young and energetic. She welcomed us at the front door upon arrival, opening the door and inviting us in. A brief conversation with her as she verified the credit card on file. She advised us the office/main building remains locked at all times creating an even stronger sense the ownership believes there was a NEED for security. Needing a key to enter the common area of any place for rent seemed...oddly disconcerting. A man and woman, we thought were guests sat at a table not saying a word yet looking at us numerous times. It was creepy. Later, As we were led to our room, we learned the man was actually the "inn keeper" who lived on the property. His phone number was to be in the room to call if we needed anything since the office wouldn't be manned throughout our stay, and the young lady was leaving. As she walked us out of the main building, down a sidewalk to our "romance" villa, we saw a lack of vehicles in the lot, a "local" tweaker walking down the two track, and no other persons within site prompting us to ask.."are there others staying here?" She confirmed we were alone for the night. A brief tour of the well decorated and probably clean room ended with the staff member leaving. We were to be only 5 minutes after her before getting out of Dodge ourselves so we can't comment too much on the condition of the room. The best way to describe the feeling once inside the room with the thin glass door used for "security" was an overwhelming thought of this is how horror movies start. Like literally almost every horror movie. The entirety of the scenario was just so off. The creepiness of being in this place and area could make nobody feel secure and I give those who stayed long enough to write a review of the breakfast a great deal of credit. Not sure how or why they stayed to order from the "chef". Despite the aesthetics of the room and main building, there was no way we were staying there. It's a shame because obviously a large investment has been made to maintain the facility. The room was large, seemingly clean, and had a huge bathroom. It had the potential to be a multiple star type resort. There was just no way we were getting through the night so we could experience the breakfast the other reviews mention. The area is so off putting and "sketchy" it won't be able to live up to its potential. Within five minutes of our arrival, we gave the keys back to the "inn keeper" and left allowing us enough time to drive away from Taos and to a different area entirely. For the first time in decades of traveling as an adult, we left a facility and didn't think twice to run from it. For the first time ever traveling as an adult we are giving a bad review. Was it the bed and breakfast itself? Possibly..because it didn't offer the barriers needed to nullify the uneasiness. Was it the location? YES. I'd suggest booking in person instead of taking the chance if losing the advance reservation money. Perform for yourself a realGoogle maps view to see where you're staying.

I particularly liked the decor in the lobby, lounge, and restaurant. We had a meal and cocktails in the lounge the first night. The tacos were very tasty and they were generous with the guacamole. We also had good breakfasts of Chilaquiles Rojos and Tres Leches French Toast on checkout day. The staff members everywhere in the hotel were very nice.
