Couldn't decide on one dessert, so ordered three kinds. But perhaps I ordered the wrong three as I felt wanting and expecting more from what we chose. We wanted to stay a night in one of the rooms provided by the restaurant but it was all booked. Make sure you plan ahead. Marlow is a beautiful town, make some time to roam around. To top it off, before we headed to the venue, we bumped into Tom Kerridge himself as he was heading out his other establishment nearby, the Coach.

A nice enough meal however surely not deserving of 2 Michelin Star fame?…read more I ordered the duck parfait for entree. It was creamy and delicious. The lamb for main was cooked perfectly, almost Wellington style. Pink in the middle and tender to bite. My mum ordered the fish and it was unusually accompanied by multiple sauces. A simple accompaniment to best bring out the flavours of the fish would have sufficed. The service was helpful, but not attentive. I hate having to flag down hospitality staff to order additional drinks, e.g when glasses are empty. I am happy to have travelled to the countryside to try gastro British pub food, however would be unlikely to make the trip again.

Forget the science-experiment food--this is just really good pub food that actually tastes like something you want to eat. It's not fancy in a stuffy way, just solid, well-done dishes across the board. Honestly, we didn't miss on a single thing. The drinks were a highlight too. I ordered the Hemingway and it came hidden inside a hollowed-out book, which sounds gimmicky but somehow totally worked and was actually fun. We almost skipped dessert, but ended up popping into the ice cream shop and I'm glad we did. Simple, high-quality, and exactly what hit the spot after a long meal. If you're in Bray and want a meal you'll genuinely enjoy eating, I'd skip the show across the road and come here instead. We also wandered upstairs to the lounge for a drink afterward--the old wood beams and leather chairs made it easy to stay longer than planned.

Absolutely delicious!…read more The food here is excellent, and the menu has a lot of options to choose from. We came early in the morning, and there were only a couple of other diners eating when we walked in. We were promptly seated and our drink order was taken. There was only one server, and he didn't come back with my coffee, or take our food order for ages. I admit, I was very frustrated with the long wait, and mumbled under my breath about how long it took to make a coffee. Unbeknownst to me, the server was right behind me and heard my remark... needless to say, service was prompt and efficient after that! I ordered the Plant Plate and was absolutely blown away at the huge portions, also how delicious everything was. I'm American, and my spouse is British, so I always thought it was strange to watch him eat baked beans for breakfast over the years... but surprisingly, it's pretty good and I'd definitely have it again. My spouse had the Pancake Stack with fresh fruit and really enjoyed his as well. The dining room is bright, airy, comfortable, and clean. The toilets are clean as well. Overall, the food was excellent, reasonably priced, and a great value for the huge portions and fresh, delicious food you get to enjoy. Highly Recommended!

My boyfriend and I split the fish and chips and the chicken/ham hock/leek pie. The fish and chips wowed us. It was so crispy, and the batter wasn't too heavy/greasy. The tarter sauce and lemon made it extra tasty. For the pie, I wanted the steak and ale pie, but they didn't have it. Luckily, they had my second choice of the chicken/ham hock/leek pie. The pie was quite tasty! The outside wasn't super crispy, but the inside was quite savory, especially with the gravy. The inside has some good chicken/ham pieces inside, but more meat would have been better! Mashed potatoes weren't anything special, but it tasted great with the gravy. The waitstaff took our orders quickly, and the food came out quickly. Overall, my boyfriend and I enjoyed our meal here!

I was apart of a large party and the restaurant staff were accommodating and had all dishes out in a timely manner. It's a quaint local pub with outdoor seating available. However, it was a charming place, and had a pretty decent sized beer garden as well, which seems to be the case for many of these suburban and rural pubs. I was welcomed with a big happy birthday from the manager soon as I walked in, given a glass of sparkly stuff and taken to a cosy table by the fireplace - nice start! I ended up plumping for the streak tartare (best I've ever had, with an aftertaste I never wanted to end) and then the trio of veal, nice and rare and full of flavour. The food was perfect, but the service really set it apart. Our server was very chatty, relaxed, and made us feel right at home.
