This hotel has 58 rooms, restaurant & bar, full spa facilities, and can accommodate small groups or up to 700 people for conferences'. Well things have certainly turned around in 2022. This evening was the finale of the 2022 Farrell Clan Rally. And the hotel staff did their part for this excellent event. This was a five hour affair for 100 people & the band. Speeches, toasts. presentations, dinner, & music were the order of the evening. Dinner was three starters: beet salad, bacon & cheddar croquette, and my personal favorite - king prawn & chorizo risotto. Food choices in Ireland have made a quantum leap since our first visit here in 2006. Innovative and eclectic. Then came a good vegetable soup. Main course choices were: chicken bacon croquettes w/ chasseur sauce, roast sirloin of beef w/ gravy, and broiled Irish hake w/ chive veloute. Served w/ mashed & roasted potatoes, & steamed vegetables. Every dish was delivered to the tables correctly, hot, & delicious. Again a great job by the staff. Dessert was a choice of apple crumble & ice cream. Sherry trifle w/ cream, & toffee pudding w/ ice cream. Note: we were here just for this event so no hotel room review. Again many thanks to Robert & Kathleen, Chieftain Connie & Rose, John C., Hugh, all the Farrell "cousins" and especially the staff at The Longford Arms Hotel. Town centre location means there are lots of alternative places to eat and drink, you are not just reliant on the hotel bar and food - which is good anyway. Also very good from a price point of view, particularly with low sterling v euro! Free wifi throughout the hotel for laptop / iphone users.

The service in the restaurant was terrible and the food was sub-par. The steak was well done and no one came to check if we needed anything. Continuously had to ask for another pint/beverage, water, ect. Asked for 2 different desserts before our main course was serviced, she ignored the apple crumb request and brought us something completely different. Will not return.

To be fair it was always famous at least to any foodie. We had a lovely lakeside sure. All rooms named after wine and each have a bottle in the room to maintain the theme. The room was spacious with large bedroom, bathroom and a decked balcony overlooking the lough. With such a lovely room and friendly greeting by reception who escorted us to our room it is hard to find faults. You can hire BMW bikes if you are so inclined which is complimentary. Also 2 hot tubs and a spa. We had our table booked for 7.30 but had a drink before in the Bollinger Lounge before hand. the measures of wine for a glass are very generous. The seafood platter and accompanying bread was the best of the courses I had. The salmon was just slightly over but rested on very tasty crushed potatoes. The wine list isn't as extensive but certainly hits the right areas. we were seated at a table overlooking the lough and great views of the sun set. Breakfast in the morning can be enjoyed in the restaurant or they will bring to your room for no extra cost. we decided take it in our room. Is the wineport the same as 10 years ago? probably not, I think subtle changes have taken place and some of the focus moved from the food and wine to a more crowd pleasing menu. This I think is unfortunate. I had to give a 5 due to staff, room, location and my overall enjoyment

Location - it is within walking distance to tons of stuff Friendly staff members The breakfast was extra but there was a good selection, I liked that I was able to squeeze my own OJ The bar was a fun place to grab a drink What were the cons? The hair dryer - it was not powerful and felt like it was going to vibrate out of my hand while using it. It also would stop working after a few minutes. There was no thermostat to adjust the air temperature, you have to open the window so it did get loud with street noise late at night The bed and pillows were a tad uncomfortable

The room is a tad small but well equipped with robes, Nespresso, tea and free parking, free wifi and s safe. The public areas are lovely especially the expansive deck overlooking the river. The breakfast buffet offered a vast assortment of options including a full Irish breakfast. My only suggestion would be add a bit of ambiance with background music in the restaurant. Also the workout room was well equipped but the blaring music put me off, we took an early morning walk along the river instead (there is a footpath along the river on the side opposite the hotel). The location is perfect, on the banks of the River Shannon in the center of Athlone. Historic sites, restaurants and bars are an easy walk.

And we almost immediately regretted it. The bar felt very much like a hotel bar (which actually makes sense, as the Bridge House is a hotel): bit too open plan, carpeted floor and old people everywhere, all round over-polished feel and a consequent lack of ambiance. There was even a guitar-toting duo singing lacklustre covers in one corner, which was blasted around the pub at irritating levels. We were the only people under forty in the place, but occasionally groups of young people would wander in and then leave almost immediately, as if they were looking for somewhere else. Curious to find where this surely close by spot was, and eager to get out of this chintzy heck-hole, we finished our drinks and left. Easily the least atmospheric place I was in on my short sojourn in the town. As we were leaving, though, there was already a queue of people outside the nightclub next door, and this was before eleven o'clock! We made a collective mental note to check it out later, and headed up the town.

The Botanic restaurant or the Cellar Bar (or room service) have got plenty of choice on their menus. It all comes from the same kitchen anyway. I was so impressed with the buffet breakfast. So much to choose from! Probably the biggest buffet breakfast I have ever seen in a hotel. Fried, scrambled and boiled eggs to choose from! The staff are very helpful and friendly too.
