Located in Kinnity county, this castle sits atop a hill just below the Sleeve Bloom mountains. You drive through woods, turn a soft corner and BOOM, there's the castle. It's magnificent! Old Gothic style, dungeon and all. The castle is equally beautiful inside. There are dozens of rooms inside, all at different levels of the castle. We stayed in a big room up top. The view is the grounds out front was beautiful - a huge field, surrounded by woods and containing a ton of deer that just seem to hang out. The bed was huge - two queens side by side, so we slept 4 across (and one on the floor) and had plenty of room for everyone. There are four spots to eat on site. A nice restaurant, and three bars including one in the library, one in the dungeon and one outside. The grounds were magnificent. There are miles of trails out back, tons of small structures to explore outside, a lovely courtyard that housed an abbey and even a sport court for those so inclined. We also had afternoon tea in the front room. A wonderful experience with nice tea and lovely little sandwiches/cakes. They don't give it away, but it was less expensive than a nice spot in Dublin. All in all, this was a homerun! It's something we'll do again in the future and you should do if you're in the area!

I awoke with with intentions of cycling back to Dublin from Tullamore, but a quick look outside…read moreindicated that it was raining. Much as I enjoy cycling, I wasn't keen on going 150 kilometres in the rain, so we decided to get the train home. I rang my oul lad to find out the times, and fortuitously enough, there was one scheduled to leave in half an hour. He also warned me, though, that there was only room on each train for two bicycles, and we had three, but I figured that we'd head down to the station and sort something out. We got to the station (a 2 min cycle from the centre of town) and made some inquiries at the ticket window. I'm not exaggerating when I say that the lady behind the counter is the most surly and sour-faced oul bitch that I should ever hope to meet. With an expression on her face like a bulldog licking piss from a nettle, she begrudgingly informed us that there was only two bicycles allowed per train. Was there not anything we could do, like disassemble one of the bikes or something? She just shrugged and took another swig from her vinegar bottle (she didn't really). At this point, another man came into the station and approached the counter, so we moved over to let him get to the window and to further discuss our options. He had what looked like an ID or swipecard in his hand, and he asked the woman if he possibly leave it in for someone. She made no verbal reply; she kind of shrugged and reluctantly accepted the item from the man, as if she had been offered a turd wrapped in cellophane. A lady who clearly detests members of the public should perhaps not be working in a customer relations capacity. We decided to buy tickets and hope for the best; when we went to the counter the lady repeated her refrain of two bikes per train. Yeah, we heard you the first ten times you old hag, give us the fucking tickets (which of course we didn't say to her face, but it was very tempting). The tickets were actually very reasonable. There was some promotion on, meaning that instead of being €26, the tickets were only a tenner, and it was only an extra €4 per bike. Out on the platform, we vented a little spleen about the harlot inside, and tried to figure out who would stay behind or what arrangements we'd make, when the conductor (I guess that what he is; yer man on the platform with the green flag) approached us. Three bikes, is it, he asked. Yes, we replied. Well I can't promise anything, but sure we'll do our best to get yiz on, alright? This spot-on chap is what turned a one-star review into a three star review. When the train came along he got all the bikes on with very little fuss. The sour-faced oul bitch on the counter should take a few pointers from her colleague's helpful approach. Tullamore Station: best to have your tickets bought in advance so you don't have to talk to that striapach in at the window, but be sure to doff your cap to the sound conductor.

The location for this B&B is wrong. Whoever created this, did not place the Riverview House B&B in…read morethe correct location. Find another B&B! In room 5, The shower is nothing, but a trickle and the temperature could not be regulated. They did not fix the problem after we reported it to them. This would have been a five-star accommodation as the hosts, Sean and Carmel were very nice, but they think the shower is ok.

I visit this camp site once every year it is a good spot for anyone who likes water sports or…read morefishing. The only thing that bugs me about the site is the electricity. The amps it gives out will not work the fridge even in the caravan. Thank god for gas. the toilet block is clean but old and the owner is bang on. I go with my wife and son. My son loves it and if he is happy we can relax too. It is one of those sites when you add up the good and bad you keep going back so give it a try and see what you think.

There was only one vending machine that was working and it wasn't fully stocked. The kitchen was closed. The late night desk clerk was nice enough to take us back to the employee vending machine just to get something to eat. I think it listed somewhere as a four-star hotel, but it didn't seem that it was actually four star and maybe more a three-star hotel but that might be the reason why they're updating and doing all the construction. They were doing quite a bit of construction which was badly needed to update the interior and exterior of this hotel. I was a little shocked at how outdated the room was regarding the fixtures and room treatments. It also smelled old and as if the dust settles often. I will say that the room was quite large but it was lacking in some of the main amenities that you would find in a more prestigious hotel. At the end of the day, it was an okay place just to rest for the night. The Wi-Fi was terrible and got worse the further down the hallway you got away from the central part of the hotel. We kept getting kicked off the Internet and maybe had one or two Wi-Fi bars sporadically throughout the evening. There aren't also a lot of places to eat around there and a lot of food delivery services don't deliver there either. It was nice to have free parking at least and like I said the night desk staff was really nice. The check out was easy as well.

Never been to Tullamore in my life before but stayed at the Tullamore Court after an office party…read more It's a surprisingly large and modern hotel with more than it's fair share of identikit public areas and rooms. Only problem I had was that there was no heating or hot water in my room when I arrived. When, shivering after a cold shower, I complained to reception, they not only apologised profusely but upgraded me to a superior room. Nice one. I don't know what the delta cost would have been but, apart for a few bells and whistles (better standard clothes hangers, anyone ? No, me either) I couldn't tell the difference so I wouldn't bother if I were you. That said, it was a pleasant enough experience and I would stay here again. Oh, and the most important feature of any hotel stay, the breakfast, was excellent although, at 7.30 on a Saturday morning, the dining room did lack some atmosphere as in, I was completely alone in a room seating at least 50. However, with complimentary Irish Times, I felt no pain and was on the road by 9. Recommended.

So we had to use the counter. The rooms are small, flat screen tv was small, and you were not able to use your travel Outlet Converters because they would blow the fuses in the hotel. The beds and pillows were comfy. I believe once the rooms are renovated this will be a very nice hotel to stay on. The breakfast was really good. Everything we had was good. It was an Irish Breakfast and buffet style, pastries, yogurt, fruit, cereal, juices, and so forth.

Also the workout room was well equipped but the blaring music put me off, we took an early morning walk along the river instead (there is a footpath along the river on the side opposite the hotel). The location is perfect, on the banks of the River Shannon in the center of Athlone. Historic sites, restaurants and bars are an easy walk.
