Little diner on the corner of Gandy & Quincy. The owners are British & have brought the British style cooking to south Tampa with this quick bite lunch spot. They have some British goodies & snacks around the counter which always reminds me of my childhood. Salads are delicious & made with fresh ingredients. Egg salad is delicious! Sandwiches I've tried thus far have always been satisfying. We ran to Cook's as our workout for the morning, so we're quick to order waters with lemon upon arriving. I got the bacon and egg wrap and asked to have some veggies added in and an Earl Grey hot tea, and my husband got the BLT with green tea and we both got fruit for our sides. Whatever they put in the eggs made them delicious, and the fruit was fresh and nicely displayed on my plate. It didn't "wow" me, thus the four stars vs. five. We decided to pop in for breakfast one Saturday morning since we always drive by this place and have been curious. When walking in you feel as if you are walking into someones kitchen, literally! You can look right into the kitchen. The atmosphere is very casual. You order your food at the counter and grab a table. When your food is ready it will be brought over to you. There are a lot of tables but no outside seating. Through out the store there are numerous European sweets and treats, even drinks. I'm talking Aero bars and marmite. I decided to have a bagel with some lox and capers. It was a good choice and came with a side of fresh fruits. The prices are a bit higher than I would expect, especially for a Lox bagel but it is South Tampa so should be expected? I will say their potato salad did stand out. My boyfriend got some with his dish and I got to try it, it was really good! The employee at the register seemed a little annoyed that I needed a minute to decide what I wanted (first time here) and/or that I had questions. There was no one else in line. I have not been back to this location and would not go out of my way to return there. But if I want a lox bagel close to home... I dream about their Pasta Salad daily. I don't know what the ingredients are and truthfully it doesn't taste super extravagant but it's seriously amazing. My mouth is watering at the thought. Cooks gives you the immediately warm, homey feeling right when you walk in. I can't believe it's taken me, a Tampa native, this long to go here. We love Cooks! It is family owned and a wonderful local restaurant that is really part of the community. The food is fresh and is a great go-to for our family. I still really like this place. I am not changing their star rating but want to say the prices have gotten out of control. $10 for a bacon and egg sandwich? $9 for pancakes? I understand making a profit but I think their success has gone to their head. I guess because they are the only deli in the area, they can charge whatever they want. If a Wawa comes to the area (they make sandwiches and breakfast sandwiches) they will lose a lot of their business. This is a soup, salad, sandwich joint which is very serious about thier British lunch fare. I tried the leak and curry soup, which was delicious as well as the coronation chicken salad sandwich. It had a hint of curry as well as bits of apricot all on a french roll. Add an interesting little salad plus potato salad and you have one happy and full lunch goer. Everything I've had has been amazing and super fresh. My favs are the BLT and the Egg Salad Sandwich. Definitely a regulars and locals place. I've had lunch a few times, the salads are creative and seasonal. I rather enjoy that the owners take such pride in their restaurant and are the ones who slave away and reap the benefits. On every occasion they remember my new, ask about my family and take a genuine interest in how their flavorful treats are. The downside it the price points. I don't feel as though I am getting the most bang for my buck. This is a great place to meet a friend for lunch! It is rather small so don't blink or you'll drive past it. There are about 10 tables inside, which are mostly tables for 2 people. The menu consists of soups, sandwiches, salads, and breakfast! I wasn't super hungry so I ordered the ham and Swiss croissant. It came with a side, so I chose pasta. For $8 I was very pleased! But there's something about this place, including the freshness of its food, that brings us back almost every Saturday morning. Many brunch places in South Tampa vie for your attention. And while Pinky's and Pach's and others serve great brunches, Cook's food doesn't make me feel lazy the rest of the day. Cook's is light yet wholesome. My girlfriend and I by no means eat the same portions but somehow always get the perfect amount of food no matter what we order. Eating salad with breakfast may seem unusual for some but both dressings they use make it work so well. We've had good experiences with the service. Only once did food take a bit long or coffee taking some time to brew. But when you're having brunch and taking the morning slow, who cares? We are on vacation and in the Tampa area today, looking for somewhere to grab lunch that would be quick and easy to eat in the car while the babies slept. I went with their Turkey and Swiss on a Baguette (I might have added bacon, don't judge) with macaroni salad. The baguette had the crusty outside and super soft on the inside, quality turkey and bacon, the macaroni salad was a great addition. You order at the counter and they bring it to your table, service is fast and the staff is friendly. They also have a variety of candy from Germany to purchase. I walked into the restaurant and 2 waitress's walked past me several times without speaking. I literally felt invisible. I'd never been to the restaurant before so I didn't know if it was self sitting or order at the counter. I took the initiative and went to the counter where I was then told you order, pay, and then find a table and your food will be served. Fast forward to when I'm done eating, I go up to the counter to make my to go orders, and I literally stand at the front counter for 1.5 minutes while the 5 ppl behind the counter working totally ignore me / do not even acknowledge that I'm there. ((There goes that invisible feeling again!!)) I was then approached by a man working behind the counter.. He took my order and then immediately asked if I had paid for the food I had just eaten... Excuse me!?? Duhhhhh that's policy, everyone does! Now I'm not going to blame this horrible customer service based off the color of my skin and that I was the only "darker skinned" toned person to walk through the doors that afternoon. What a great little find. We enjoyed the shrimp and avacodo salad ant the ploughmans lunch. Vegetable s and salad greens top notch. The cheddar with the ploughmans was substantial amount of well aged dry cheddar. No bland supermarket stuff here. The chutney was excellent as well. The avacado and shrimp was very good.
