I had no idea this Preserve was here, and my husband and friend stumbled on one of the "not…read moreofficial" trail heads. The trails aren't very well marked, and not very easy to see, but it's a nice little preserve. It's not an "easy" walk, kind of steep at times, but decent for not knowing it even existed! Not much parking, dogs are allowed in some areas, no bikes allowed.

In the whole Hudson Valley, this trail is definitely unknown to many, and it was a nice pick. The…read moreonly dreadful part is the parking lot, extremely tiny and only fits probably two I'd say. Also, paving while arriving and leaving should be addressed - three stars. The chances of it being full are very unlikely, due to the area that it's in, but still. Pretty simple, a map is provided on the sheet, with three trails, yellow (main, doing a loop), orange, and green. I'd say, this is the best signage I've seen in any park I've been to, and applause for that. The scenery is pretty decent, nothing too special, except some high views looking down. The green trail toward the south end isn't the prettiest, in terms of overgrown grass, and even a little "hideout building." Can't think of the name. There is a private property in that section, which explains probably the built structure, who knows? The north end also comes out to the road, but no parking lot. A map is provided as well. I wouldn't mind making this stop again, hoping it won't be packed in the lot. 3.5/5

Getting here is not difficult at all while it's not hard missing the exit. There's plenty of parking to fit cars. The word trails indicate there are 5 in this trail park that does a big loop with multiple of them within it. It's awesome to see the layout of it as its filled with mainly gravel and also some grassy areas in some places. Luckily it's not too fully over grown to make it challenging, but do check for ticks after the hick. One minor turn off on the walk I saw is, there is no sign showing the yellow trail for Songbird Lane, so I thought maybe we went off the path for a section until reaching the other connection. There's no sign showing the red trail at the split (see my map photo for a full explanation). An update on the map would be very helpful. The website has it updated. Plan a stop here at Hopeland.

After parking in a big dirt lot just past Rosendale, we walked south for about a half mile (over the trestle over the Rondout River). Then NOBO for a bit over 3 miles past an old abandoned outhouse (2-seater). Past William's Lake on the left, and past an area about 100' long where the temp suddenly drops a good 10 degrees. Weird, but it happens every time we walk past this area. Must be an aura or vortex. At the 18 mile mark (there are posts marked every half-mile), a lunch break. Sal, Kris and Charlie's deli hero. Best of the best. HC brought the brandy, but forgot to decant it. WVRT is absolutely beautiful. Cinder surface. Very gentle terrain. The part north of Rosendale is lightly trafficked. Bring fluids, and please practice Leave No Trace principles. 5 stars

I hit this trail up for an early morning hike and it was such a solid way to start the day. I…read morestarted from the southernmost point and walked about 2.5 miles north to the Gardiner Library. FYI, that southern start point has zero parking, so you're better off finding a spot near the Gardiner Library and going from there--it'll give you options for heading north or south. The path itself is wide and super chill. It was covered in leaves when I went, which was pretty, with big trees lining both sides. You can actually see some beautiful houses tucked in beyond the trees, which was a fun little treat as you walk. Heads up, though, it's not all nature; you do cross some streets, so stay aware of traffic. This thing is huge--the entire trail is over 20 miles and connects a bunch of towns like Wallkill, Gardiner, and New Paltz. It's a true multi-use path for walkers, runners, cyclists, and equestrians (no motorized vehicles, thank goodness). Quick tips for hitting the trail: Parking: Skip the southern end. Park around the Gardiner Library area; it's the smarter move. The Path: Remember, this is a linear trail, not a loop, so be ready to turn around and backtrack or arrange a ride back! Weather: If it's sunny out, you're set. It's an easy, flat walk. If you're looking for a relaxing, easy walk or ride with some nice scenery and want to knock out a few miles, this trail is a winner. Great for a Saturday morning coffee walk!

Please don't hang off the edge of the viewpoint for a "cool"…read morepicture because heaven forbid you fall to your death the rangers will take their time for the recover since it's highly unlikely you'd survive the fall. I see way too many tourists comfortably sitting on the view point ledge until they slip and tragedy strikes. Enjoy the photo op responsibly, pretty please with sugar on top! As for the actual hike I agree with the few reviews posted up that this is a fairly easy hike because just about all the elevation happens in the first 3/4 mile up. Once you make it to the halfway point and turn left on the blue trail the rest is fairly flat up till Giant Ledge. If you go further on to Panther Mountain you do take a small dip down into the valley toward Panther and you go back up to the peak of Panther. Honestly, unless you have the desire to hike ALL 33 catskill peaks there is no reason to visit Panther in my opinion. Giant ledge has the better view. WATER, bring plenty of water in the summer because the water source with the big ass sign on the trail about a mile up almost never has water flowing because I have yet to even find the darn source the several times I've been up there so I'd consider that water source unreliable so pack water.

Absolutely stunning for a sunrise hike. My friends and I have done this for the past two years…read morearound mid October. Get to the trailhead at 5 AM and spend the next hour and a half climbing to the peak to see sunrise. Excellent bang for your buck Hike. I think it's only like a one and a half mile track, but it's the elevation that gives difficulty. Check out my photos and videos. I highly recommend this.

You may be short of breath and feel possibly on the verge of a heart attack. Keep going. The view at the top is worth it. The swamp trail seemed to end abruptly, with maybe the trail continuing but blocked off and unsure why it doesn't connect to the swamp overlook.

The name becomes official (technically) when entering the trail from Berean Park, either from the…read morered trail end or the big gate located in the parking lot. Those aren't hard to miss. The red trail trailhead begins inside Berean way past the playground while the parking lot trailhead features an authorized (work) roadway which is shared with pedestrians (open to the public). The trails are mainly steep which contain a lot of rocks and stomps, so do take caution. Some parts of the trail, especially the white is pretty narrow right toward the edge of a drop and doesn't have a fence or guardrail. I think putting something there would be a great benefit especially those with physical issues. Signature along the way is well marked, while the trail is pretty obvious due to the shape of the gravel. One highlight of the hike is a fire pit and benches on the red trail, looking the lake and Berean Park. With a big property, there's a lot to explore.

A park that is well hidden can be a mystery until it is unwrapped. The unwrapping part is the…read moreanswer - a wonderful trail to explore while enjoying. Most of its journey parallels the Wappinger Creek once you're far in from the entrance. In the beginning, the surround includes a lot of trees and hills to the mix before approaching the creek. There are a couple of bridges along the way which require caution, as it is a bit wiggly. The trail then leads to a big field, which is somewhat unmarked, but noticing the dirt will help a bit. Eventually, at the end of the trail, there is a lookout with a bench that overlooks the creek along with a nice view of viewing the Overlook Golf Course. Overall, it's 1.25 miles one way. After that, walk the opposite way while enjoying different scenery. Also, there is one branch at the beginning that follows the creek in the north direction that follows for a bit which ends at a loop, with the branch trail lasting less than a mile. Parking on the other hand is what's bringing me down 1 star since there's not a lot of space to work out with. It's a hit and miss, in the long run, so the time of day is undetermined since it varies day by day, except at early dusk. Two cars may fit on the grass if lucky, depending on the size of the car. With that, it's a wonderful park to take in, with the nice water sound and a lot to look around.
