Above and Beyond -- True Professionals Who Genuinely Care!…read moreWe couldn't be more thankful for Randy and Mike! What began as a much-needed electrical upgrade to our 100-year-old home turned into an experience that reminded us what true craftsmanship, honesty, and pride in one's work really look like.
We were referred to Randy by a SERVPRO representative who had been working on our basement. After contacting him, we received a very reasonable estimate for a complete home rewiring. Randy took the time to walk through every room with us, discussing our vision, our preferences, and the electrical updates required to bring our home up to code.
Our home was built in 1926 and still had its original knob-and-tube wiring. We knew this wouldn't be an easy project, and Randy never pretended otherwise. In fact, that was one of the biggest reasons we chose him. He was upfront about the potential complications of working in a century-old home. More importantly, he immediately gave us the impression that he cared about our home as much as we did.
Before work could even begin, Randy had to navigate a frustrating and unnecessarily lengthy permitting process with our village. After weeks of waiting and countless phone calls, the permit was finally approved. Randy never gave up, never left us wondering what was happening, and never made us feel like our project wasn't worth the hassle.
Randy and Mike began work the following week, after completing another job. From the very beginning, they were thoughtful, respectful, and incredibly hardworking. Knowing my husband works third shift and sleeps during the day, they were considerate of the noise whenever possible.
They started by relocating our electrical panel and, remarkably, had our temporary electrical service restored by the end of that first day. As they progressed through the house, they carefully disconnected individual rooms, installed new conduit and wiring, and restored temporary power before leaving whenever possible. They worked hard to minimize disruption to our daily lives.
Of course, our 100-year-old house had other plans!
At one point, after hours of drilling through century-old ceiling joists, we all laughed and agreed, "It seems like the house is fighting back!" And believe me, there were days when it certainly seemed determined to win!
Within the first few weeks, Randy and Mike had relocated the electrical panel and completed the basement electrical work, including the boiler, washer, and dryer connections. As they continued, they uncovered some frightening reminders of why this project was so necessary, including wiring that showed evidence of previous fire damage.
Then came a particularly alarming moment when a small electrical fire occurred at an old switch that wasn't even part of the work being performed at the time. Randy and Mike responded immediately, located the problem, and extinguished it. They calmly explained what had happened and the dangers associated with our deteriorating wiring. At that point, we decided the safest option was to shut down the entire house and stay in a hotel until the situation was resolved.
Their professionalism and attention to safety gave us tremendous peace of mind during a very unsettling experience.
And the working conditions? They were anything but pleasant!
Randy and Mike spent approximately three weeks working in our hot, humid basement with windows that couldn't be opened. They then spent another two weeks in our sweltering attic, with little more than a fan to circulate the stale air. Despite the uncomfortable conditions, stubborn old construction, and unexpected challenges, they continued working diligently, never sacrificing the quality of their craftsmanship.
Finally, they moved through the first floor, helping bring my vision of restoring our 1926 bungalow to its original period-inspired elegance to life. They understood how important it was to preserve the home's character, and they worked with us to incorporate the beautiful, historically appropriate light fixtures we had carefully selected.
One of the things we appreciated most was their communication. Randy kept us informed throughout the entire project. We never had to chase him down for updates or wonder what would happen next. Both Randy and Mike regularly explained their progress, upcoming work, and any unexpected discoveries before we even needed to ask.
Another quality that deserves recognition was Randy's approach to billing. Rather than demanding a large payment upfront, he billed us weekly against our agreed-upon estimate as the work progressed. Unfortunately, these days, homeowners often worry about contractors collecting their hard-earned money and disappearing before a job is finished. Randy's approach gave us confidence & reassurance that we were dealing with an honest, dependable professional.
