Long gone are the days of a $3.99 tray, but with the amount of food I received and the vibe inside this Cookout, I've got nothing to complain about. Typically my Cookout experience is a drive thru, but this location gives you the opportunity to eat in also. The interior of the restaurant is definitely themed for the location, with mountain pictures, words of wisdom from a bear, and pale wood tables in contrast to the plastic booths they also have. The inside seemed clean enough, but I didn't venture outside of the dining area. This Cookout location, like a few others, has walking tacos on their tray option as a side. I was sold. I love a good walking taco. My tray consisted of a small burger, walking taco, and the white cheddar cheese bites? Did I really need to consume 900 calories at lunch? No. Was it delicious? Absolutely. The service was fast and accurate. They give you your own cups for the drink machine, so you can make your own drink full of tea on ice or just have a large cup of water no ice. Let me start out by saying I LOVE Cookout. I lived on it in college and still eat it frequently. That being said, this is the worst location I've ever eaten at, it seems to just be getting worse in the last year. This last visit was the final straw for me, I actually called DHHS on them which I've never done in my life. I ordered a huge tea with my meal and thought it tasted funny. I've had bad experiences with finding mold in fast food drinks before so I didn't drink anymore and waited until I got back to work to pour it into another cup to make sure there wasn't something in it. When I did, I found diced onion in my sweet tea! How does that even happen?! I tried and tried to call the restaurant to let a manager know because if someone with an allergy got the same thing it could be a major issue. Never could get the number on Google to work so I finally called the health department. What happened from there, idk. Service is also crap, I waited at the window for 10 mins one day to ask for condiments while they stood with their back to the window and would turn around and look at me like, "why is she still sitting there" instead of just opening the window and asking. The drive thru was a little packed and unorganized. Ordered through the drive through but waited for over 20 minutes to pick up my food. I ended parking my car and walking into the facility. The ambience is beautiful for a cookout, but it could use some better drive through customer service. The queue inside was not so bad. It only took 7 minutes. Cookout is North Carolina fast food place that is known for burgers cooked in the Carolina Style fashion and Cherry wine floats. I have tried my best to be patient with this location, as we own a home in the area and try to support locally-owned and operated stores and restaurants (and we like the fact this is a Christian organization). I am also sensitive to the many challenges of running a business , especially a restaurant, as my grandfather was a chef. However, I also owned a food testing, safety and service business and can say this site would have failed my health inspection on today's visit. The wait times have always been quite ridiculous, the orders often messed up, and the food portions keep getting smaller (my combo pack had 2 chicken tenders and 4 small onion rings). However, today I walked into absolute filth. Every single table was dirty from prior visitors (with spilt drinks, crumbs and even used napkins still on the table and on the floor). The bathroom garbage can was piled up and overflowing to the top of the sink. The toilet paper was unrolled and all over the floor. The garbage can at the fountain soda dispenser was piled up 3" above top of the can against the wall. Ice was piled several inches high from over dispensing, and was all colored from the various soda pops as folks tried to get their glass under the dispenser and above the piled up ice. Simply disgusting to the point where all those who were standing around waiting for their meals or hoping for a clean table were chatting about how gross it was. Whoever owns this place PLEASE either get yourself on site (as most owner / operators of Chic-fil-A do - thus the reason they are very clean and efficient) to oversee the lack of work ethic by your team of young kids, or fire your manager and hire someone who will take your business and all that is at risk (eg: if you are closed by the health inspector, or the first customer who gets deathly ill and sues you) more seriously. I am posting photos of what I saw today and will hope that you are reading these posts and are equally appauled by what you see. This is robbing you of more revenue, creating unhappy customers, and is putting your business on the line. It is also not a good reflection of how a Christian business should run - focused on service, care, cleanliness, promptness, quality, etc... I know it is hard, but this is one aspect of business ownership that you do have 100 % control over. Manage the staff up to greatness, or manage them right out the door.... read more

This is one of those places that you visit in the middle of the night when nothing else is open and you're not really feeling McDonalds or Taco Bell. The shakes, grilled cheese and hush puppies are pretty good but the burgers and fries are mediocre at best. Again, the biggest "pro" is the fact that they're open until 2-3am. read more

I've never really had an issue with this Cook-out location. Food has Always been at least decent and I've never had to wait longer than 10 minutes to order and get food. We frequently go through the drive-thru for shakes because they are currently the best shakes in Wilkes and have a large variety to choose from. It's also nice they stay open late because we are often out on the town late at night. The girl (Kristen) cut me off before I got my milkshake out so once at the window, I corrected her with proper one and I could tell she wasn't happy even though she faked it. Drive thru is so slow. I haven't been to many Cook Out's so I can't say how this compares to others, but my experience was very mild. We ordered two burgers and two fries. The burger was good, we were both starving so it was good regardless. It wasn't the best I've ever had. The fries were a bit unseasoned, and the burgers were a bit sloppily built. It was alright because we were hungry, but I would have much rather went to Chick-fil-a. I don't recommend for anyone looking for a mouth watering meal, but if you're starving at 1:00am, this might be your place. read more

My wife went there tonight and the idiot monkey at the drive through had her repeat her order FOUR TIMES, and STILL SCREWED IT UP. He shorted her on 2 orders, they owe us a quesadilla, some honey mustard, an order of fries, and a bbq platter which we did not receive. They never even give me napkins, a bag, ketchup, nothing, unless I ask for it. The drive through is painfully slow. Seriously, someone could die waiting for their food it's so slow.
