two hot dogs with coleslaw

Hey! For the price, this place rocks! Especially if you're a poor college student desperate for a cheap bite! The hotdog combo comes with chips and a drink at no additional charge. I ordered off of door dash for delivery, and was shocked at how cheap it still was! Usually the toppings are what makes a hotdog good, but these hotdogs themselves bring enough flavor to the party and would be quite enjoyable even if you ate them plain! Also the sweet tea is perfect! Highly recommend!

It's always a great decision after four games of basketball here in Hickory to have a Dawg Pound hot dog. Small tourni great action and talent. Love girls basketball These hot dogs are sooo good and fresh. Always served with a smile and sounds of praise playing on the speakers. $40 fed three teen girls and three adults! My opinion is reasonable for a quick meal. Definitely recommend for a great hot dog or sausage.

I don't know if the citizens of Hickory were giving Roy Cooper and his stay home order the one finger salute or what, but I saw a mass of humanity driving to and fro in Hickory today. For my part, I was supporting a local business as Roy has suggested we do. I spotted Dawg Pound Hot Dogs a year ago or so, and they've been on my to do list ever since. I ordered an all-the-way, an Ole Yeller, a Buffalo dog, and a BBQ dog. All of these are served with an all-beef wiener, which was slightly on the small side compared to the thickness of the bun, and had about average flavor (which is good) for an all-beef wiener. All-the-way: over all, it was pretty good. The slaw was excellent, but the chili was mild, which was my fault because I asked for mild. Ole Yeller: it comes with mustard, cheese, and bacon. The bacon was real, and they were generous with it, but was a little tough. Nevertheless, this dog was very good. Buffalo dog: spicy chili, hot sauce, and jalapeños. This was my favorite dog of the day, though I admittedly love spicy food. Everything came together in beautiful spicy goodness. BBQ dog: comes with pork barbecue, slaw, and a pickle. This was my second favorite dog of the day. I wasn't sure how I would like it, but the barbecue was excellent--tender and smoky. Dawg Pound is a kinda cute little shack run by some very nice people. They are also popular --they had a line the entire time I was there. Then again, there were a LOT of Hickorians (Hickorites?) were out and about today. I guess cabin fever is setting in. The pricing is reasonable, and they make a very good hot dog.

One of the only places in Hickory that you can go and get a barbecue dog or a Chicago dog! The staff is friendly and the dogs are made to order! You can even get a large order of hotdogs for a reduced price! They have a double drive up window and a plethora of options to choose from which are not limited just to hot dogs!

The hotdogs are awesome and the chili is on point. If you get a chance, get the banana pudding. You won't regret it. Friendly staff.

They have so many options for food that are normally not available for people with allergies. I couldn't decide on one thing so I ordered several things. For starters, the chicken sandwich was huge. It was perfectly fried and very crispy. The bun held together and didn't fall apart. If you are gluten free, you know this is hard to find. I would say I only ate about 1/3 of the sandwich, it was so large. I also ordered the fried okra which were very crispy and the coating was light and flavorful. It's one on my favorite things to order here and a can't miss if you love fried okra. The next favorite was hush puppies. They reminded me of the hush puppies I used to eat growing up and have missed dearly. The prefect combination of sweet and crunchy. And i couldn't leave without trying the fried pickles. The owner, Lisa, and I were speaking about all the options and I told her how much I love having all these options. She included a small side of spicy pickles for me to try and they were even better than the regular. Not overly spicy and a great combination with breading and ranch dressing. I can't wait to return to try the fried jalapeños and the brisket. The staff is very knowledgeable and helpful. The prices are amazing. I ordered all of the food (6 different things) and a drink for $26. It was way more than I could eat but I wanted to try it all. The atmosphere is casual and the booths are cafeteria style for a very comfortable, southern experience.

BUT TODAY (8/27/26) my husband and I wanted to go there again for a lunch date and when we went there for lunch. We went inside to order and the sane woman was there but this time she seemed super unfriendly this go around. I ordered some fried corn nuggets and I reminded her that the last time we were there that she told me she liked eating the fried corn nuggets herself when a fresh batch was put it. Telling her that didn't jog her memory at all. We waited for our food and we were the only ones eating there and I glanced around... the tables and stools looked like they hadn't been wiped down in a while. We got our food and our bbq meat was not hot at all... barely warm! There was no smokey flavor to the meat and most of it was soaked in some type of vinegar sauce which was nasty tasting. Come to find out, it was their House Sauce. I was able to get some thicker bbq sauce only upon asking a man behind the counter, as there were no sauce bottles on the tables. While eating, I saw a large garbage can with an orange lid near the tables. It was so gross looking that I was definitely done trying to eat at that point. I felt that at some point they could have replaced that can with a nicer looking one. We spent $34 and it was not worth it. The customer service was zero, the meat was bland, and there was no atmosphere. We were not impressed and we will not be going back to this restaurant and it's under 2 miles from our house.

So we ordered a lot of food for rehearsal dinner the day before. All the meat and sides were quickly packed up when we arrived. Smelling food on the way to dinner was difficult. The Pulled Pork was amazing. Beans were great. Collard Greens were amazing - I managed to get one serving before they were gone! Mac & Cheese and Hushpuppies were great. Coleslaw was creamy and delicious. Plenty of sauces were provided. Not much was left after dinner. The only disappointment was the hot sauce. The owner said they made their own Ghost Pepper sauce. Well, several of our family love really spicy food, like Thai. Their sauce had very little heat, almost none. Kick it up a bit then caution people and make it hot!

While the food remains decent, the most noticeable difference is the exorbitant pricing. For instance, ketchup, a staple condiment, is now charged at a whopping 50 cents for a few packs that should be free. Even dipping sauces are not spared from this price hike. The customer service at Checkers has also taken a nosedive. It's disheartening to witness such a decline in the quality of service that I've come to expect from a restaurant of this caliber. While I remain hopeful that things will improve in the coming months, my current experience leaves me with a negative review. For your information, this location is privately owned and not affiliated with the corporate chain. Consequently, not all deals or promotions are available here. Also, it is the only location available in North Carolina.

When I arrived, the employee on the speaker told me I had to either go to the other pickup lane or get out and pick up my order at the window. It was pouring rain, and there were already cars in front of me and behind me, so I couldn't just back out or switch lanes. The parking lot was also completely full, and anyone who has been to this location knows it's a very small lot. After I finally made it to the drive-thru window, I politely asked if they could just hand me my order there instead of making me go to the passenger-side pickup window. It would have taken just a few seconds to hand me the bags through the window I was already at, and it would have kept me from having to get out in the rain. The employee refused and said it was "store policy." Since I couldn't safely get to the other pickup window, I asked to cancel my order. The restaurant refused and told me I had to contact customer support. Customer support also said they couldn't cancel it and told me to contact my bank instead. So in the end, I had no food, was charged for my order, and was left to deal with getting my money back myself. I understand businesses have policies, but a little common sense and customer service go a long way. Given the weather and the situation, making a simple exception would have taken almost no effort. Unfortunately, this was a very frustrating experience, and I won't be returning.
