What happened to Cook Out? The tiny "Large" cheddar burger tasted totally bland except for the awful, gummy cheddar cheese manufactured product on it. The fries never had a chance at crispy. Fryer oil too low, cause they were greasy and wilted. I got the "Polynesian" sauce which tasted like French dressing injected with vinegar the after taste of which I can't get rid of. Look, try your own food and be honest about the flavor profiles, the appearances, and your cooking processes. Then, text me back and tell me your food isnt rankorous. We have gone to several Cook Out restaurants in South Carolina and Virginia. We frequent the one in Fredericksburg now. We happened to be near this one and decided to stop. What a mistake. The young lady behind the counter rolled her eyes several times while we were ordered. I couldn't be sure if it was at us or someone in the back. Not a big deal- everyone has a bad day, right? However, after we sat down the chaos really started. The yelling from the kitchen- "what the h-ll!", "what the f----!", "shut up!", screaming noises. It just didn't stop the whole time we were there. It seems only juveniles were working today. We usually enjoy the Christian music- none was playing- maybe that would have helped. Also, having John 3:16 printed on your cups to have an employee yell, "hey, look- here comes your savior!" when an employee showed up to work isn't a great look. Before Covid this place gets 5 stars. Now, 1 star. It used to be ran well and the service was fast. Now, you are lucky to be in the drive thru line for less than 20 minutes past 6pm, not even kidding. Also, the quality of the food fell off hard. Food is bland compared to other cookouts and not worth the wait. I'm going to start driving to the location near Patterson and Parham now. It's been a while since I had Cook Out so I was rather excited to grab some food from there after a long night out. The trays were still a good price but the portions are a lot smaller than I remember! I got a chicken sandwich with onion rings and fries with Cajun seasoning. I only got like 3-4 small onion rings and they were kinda burnt. The fries were doused with so much Cajun seasoning that I choked on it several times before I gave up eating it. The chicken sandwich was pretty small as well. I'm not sure if the quality went down or they're just not as good as I remembered. Wow! I have never heard of this chain before and after hearing about a specific seasonal milkshake I wanted to give them a try. This particular location offered service with a smile and the patience of a saint while they waited for me to navigate the huge menu! The "plates" are an exceptional value and even getting the small one I was unable to finish my glutinous selection of burger, corn dog and onion rings...but the star here was the shake. Finished some Christmas shopping and stopped to get something to eat here for the long drive home. I got to the entree after finishing the sides only to realize how light it felt compared to what it was supposed to be. I take a look between the buns to see I was given a regular cheeseburger instead of the big double I ordered. Incredibly disappointing. I like this Cook Out so much better than any other locations I've been to. There is a drive thru (as usual) but they also have a very open and spacious dining area inside, where you can place your order as well. We went late night (which is what Cook Out was meant for, right?), and there was no line. That was a first for us! The staff was so friendly and patient, as it took us about a minute or two to decide what we wanted. I'm not sure if it was the fact that the staff was friendlier, or the whole restaurant as a whole looked cleaner; but the food even tasted better to me. The food was good but it was super expensive. The servings were small and they packed the drinks with crushed ice so we got very little liquid to drink. One burger and one hot dog with drinks and fries cost $19.00. The burger tasted good but it was very small. The hot dog was no bigger than a regular pre-packaged hot dog. Neither was worth $9. I haven't seen a restaurant pack their drinks with crushed ice in decades. It's an easy way for them to pump up their profits. Which adds insult to injury when you consider what they're charging for the food. Especially when you know that drinks are the highest profit margin items on the menu to begin with. Based purely on taste, they were better than the other generic burger joints. But the prices are way too high. The sizes are too small. And stuffing the drinks is a cheap trick and a shady way to do business. Definitely a great, and long awaited, addition to Short Pump! No longer do we have to travel to Patterson Ave or elsewhere for a Cookout Tray. To have only been open for a few months, this location is pretty well run from my perspective. The food is also delicious! Hands down the best deal is the Cookout Tray for 5 bucks. Choose from Chicken Wraps, chicken nuggets, burgers and more. There's a combination to suit just about every taste. Cookout is also known for their delicious milkshakes. Get one flavor or multiple...so many to choose from. You'll definitely leave satisfied. As far as service, the staff is always polite when I visit (weekdays and weekends). Drive-thru usually moves at a reasonable pace. Most Cookouts have two drive thrus...but those locations are typically much smaller without a dining room. So for now, the one drive thru is sufficient for Short Pump patrons. read more

Shes always fixing everyones screw ups and makes sure everything is perfect for each customer. GOD FORBID there is something wrong, she is so polite and fixes it immediately and handles things as they should be. She works Thursday-Sunday and these are the only days I will come. We placed a drive-through order around 12:45 today for 3 burgers, 3 fries, and 2 shakes. It's 1:10 and we are just on our way home. After placing a drive-thru order, we were asked to pull into a parking spot and wait for our food. We did. After waiting more than a reasonable amount of time, we went inside to inquire about our order. When we walked in, they asked if we'd left without our food? We said no, we were waiting in the exact spot they'd asked us to - just like the person in front of us and behind us (who were still waiting) - and provided our order number. The gentleman came right back out with our very cold food... and no apologies or offers to make it right. Additionally, we called the 1-866-number on their site and after explaining to a customer service agent our issue, she put us on hold for 10 minutes and then we were just disconnected. Cook Out is great. All the Cook Out stores I've ever been to have been pretty exceptional, but more recently, they've started building actual restaurants instead of just offering the traditional walk up window. While I certainly don't mind a good meal on the curb (which takes me back to my first ever Cook Out experience in Boone, NC, right outside of ASU), having a booth is just as pleasant. The staff here are very cordial, and every visit has been a nice one. I'm the kind of person who likes to converse with the staff, find new recommendations and never settle for "the usual," and these people know their stuff. Customer service was great, ALL the food was fresh and not just some of it. Extremely short wait times. This cookout definitely gets it right. It's nice to see Cook Out take the opportunity to open a location in Short Pump. Especially since Short Pump has a decent night life scene. Until this Cook Out opened, the only late night options were Taco Bell, Wendy's, and Silver diner. And to my knowledge, Cook Out now holds the title for staying open the latest. If you haven't been to Cook Out before, the menu is quite large. But with the exception of their milkshakes, the food is definitely not gonna win any awards. The quality is ok. But what makes Cook Out so great is that you get a lot for your money. I've heard people refer to it as budget food and late night drunk food. But however you wanna put it, one cannot argue that it's the best bang for the buck when it comes to fast food in the area. We ordered two milkshakes. One was Oreo mocha the other Oreo peanut butter. Both milkshakes were plain Oreo when we received them. We took them up to the counter to explain and they replied with "I made the milkshake I know I put the flavors in there. You need to put your spoon at the bottom to taste it" We took the milkshakes back to our table, retried them, then brought them back up because they still tasted just like plain Oreo.
