Truthfully this was the worst plate of food I can ever remember eating. My wife got both of us a plate. Mine had double fries. I expected to get cool or cold fries as this was a to go order. I didn't expect to get a mixture of burnt fries and soggy fries on my plate. How does this happen? The two hamburger patties were unforgettably burnt. It too was cold but not a surprise. It's been a long time since I've had food from here. It will be a longer time before purchase any more. This was a totally disappointing plate of food. At the present time I cannot recommend this CookOut to anyone. read more

Stopped in for a quick bite while driving through the town. The restaurant was very clean and staff were friendly. The selection was great for fast food. I guess more people like to leave bad reviews than good?! The staff was super polite and fun to chat with. They accommodated my request for adding peanut butter for my burger. (Don't knock it until you try it!) The restaurant was clean, good size parking lot, and pretty convenient off of I85 at the Walmart entrance. No, Cook Out is no 5-star restaurant but when compared against other similar places this is a great place. In fact, I'm pretty sure it's the best Cook Out I'm aware of. I've never had my order wrong (something that happens frequently at the Shelby Cookout), I've never had cold food, and I've never had to wait. I swing by and get drive through once or twice a week and yesterday I waited... 43 seconds. yes, I timed it. I ordered my food, waited for the car ahead of me, pulled up, handed them my debit card, and they handed me my food. It was amazing. if you've never had their grilled chicken sandwich it is really quite good. It's not huge but the flavor is excellent. Their unsweet tea is really good, too. The chain recently removed their iconic fries and shrunk their milkshake sizes. The Gaffney location RARELY properly mixes their milkshakes. All the syrups/add on are at the bottom unmixed and it makes it impossible to drink through a straw (yes even a milkshake straw). read more

I ordered a 1/8 lb. burger (perhaps the only time I've ever ordered the smallest they offer), and a Cheerwine. I got the burger Cook Out Style (total cost, around $2), which has mustard, Cook Out's meaty chili, their fresh and not runny (mayo-free) slaw, and an entire slice of onion. This is important to point out - When you get onion on a burger at Cook Out, they give you a solid slice of onion the diameter of the burger. I made quick work of the burger because at the current rate I would not reach my destination until nearly 2 a.m. The Small burger is not as flavorful as the Regular size and they overcooked it a tad, but it was still just de-lovely and delicious. This is a great low price place to eat. It modern day style of dinner. Food is great for the price and never had the milkshakes. I heard they were great. The only issues were the bathrooms. This was my first time going to a Cook Out. My parents had been to other locations and raved about the burgers and shakes. So at their insistence that I would love it, we made a special trip there for lunch on our way from VA to GA. Unfortunately I was very disappointed with the experience and my parents couldn't believe how terrible this location was compared to others. Specifically: - The floors were so greasy it's a miracle that one of us didn't slip. - They were out of napkins so they put out a roll of what appeared to be bathroom paper towels for us to tear off. - The booth tables were all dirty and I ended up cleaning one myself. - One of the trash cans was overflowing. - There was only one high chair, so only one of my two kids got to sit in one. My daughter was able to manage well enough in the booth seat as she's older, but it's a good thing no other babies were there or we would have had to fight over it. - There are no changing tables in the bathrooms so I had to awkwardly change my son's diaper on a seat in our van. Apparently the choice of whether to provide changing tables is up to the owner of the restaurant, as opposed to being a Cook Out policy--I would encourage the owner to install one in both the women's and men's bathrooms. And perhaps Cook Out should consider making this standard. How family-friendly can a restaurant really be if your whole family can't comfortably visit? - I could tune out the Christian music at the table well enough (though I personally found it pretty inappropriate for a burger joint), but not when it was *blasting* in the bathroom. It was around 3:00 when we dined here and not busy at all, so someone could have easily come out of the kitchen to wipe down the tables and empty the trash. However, we did appreciate that the staff were at least very friendly. As for the food, the burgers were dry and the fries were forgettable. The burgers had all been cut in half (I assume to check to see if they were done), but this dried them out and made them fall out of the bun. The shakes, however, were outstanding. I took a gamble on the peach cobbler shake and it totally paid off. My advice: get yourself a shake. But go through the drive-thru. read more

I just paid less than $4.00 a piece to feed 3 people!!! This place is great. Very fast and friendly. Their menu is HUGE, so much so that you cannot possibly sit in front of it and make an informed choice about what you want to order before they ask what you want. I can't complain, the price was right and the food was great. Their combo baskets allow for both rings and fries. Looks to be a very new business in this town. A regional chain of burger place, I think most are drive thru only, but this location has inside seating. The burger is a solid, good burger, nice beef, nice condiments (lettuce, tomoto & onion seem fresh) but, the thing which sets Cook Out apart are their options of sides...you can choose fries, onion rings, slaw, beans or my favs...HushPuppies or a corn dog (yep, a corn dog is a side item) I guess that's fast food with a Carolina twist! read more

This place was amazing! Price, taste, atmosphere, everything! I had the cookout style hot dog with mustard, chili and slaw (I chose to have it without the onions). It was exactly what I had hoped for! Get plenty of napkins because they don't skimp on the toppings. My fiance had the double cheeseburger and it had that perfectly charred taste. My favorite! It looks small but it was filling. My friend got the grilled chicken sandwich. It also had that char-grilled taste and it was SO JUICY! He also got the corndog as one of his sides on his "Cookout Tray." It was delicious too. The breading was perfectly crispy. The other options for sides were things like chicken nuggets, slaw or chili, but we decided on french fries and onion rings. With or without the cajun seasoning the fries were great. Especially dipped in the chocolate milkshake, which is about the only way to consume the extra thick milkshakes (spoons and straws are also available though). The onion rings were good and crispy too. Overall a great experience. The wait was a little longer than expected, but the place was PACKED so that is to be expected. My only issue is that there isn't a Cookout closer to my home in Georgia. This place will become a regular stop on all of out trips north of Georgia from now on! read more

Came out to SC to visit family and honestly stopped here because nothing else was open. 1200am on a Friday night. I didn't mind that it's a hole in the wall, but I was appalled to see the young African American worker believe she/he was the chef with a blue du'rag on their head taste someone's food ...and pack it to go for them !!! The Very same food they bit, they packed it up for a customer !!! The floor is dirty AF ! The drink area was wet with ice spilling all over.
