I was searching for a good and seasoned local tattoo artist for my half-sleeve tattoo. I came across Convictions Tattoos and sent a Yelp message. The owner, Dat, responded promptly. After a few conversations, I went to the shop for a consultation. The shop is immaculate and smells good. There is beautiful artwork from local artists on the walls. I met with Dat, and he made me feel very comfortable. He's super chill and professional. He is funny, too. We reviewed ideas for my tattoo, and he was honest about the expectations. I decided to work with Dat and am happy with my decision. My tattoo came out better than expected. You have to trust him and the process. Dat is highly skilled, a perfectionist, and passionate about his work. He wants your tattoo to come out nothing short of amazing. You won't regret it! read more

Conviction Tattoo - Tattoo Near Me - San Jose, California

I have wanted a small but meaningful tattoo for many years and kept putting it off because I couldn't find the right artist and never really knew what I wanted. After researching local artists near where I live, I came across Conviction Tattoo and was immediately impressed. Dat was incredibly responsive to both text messages and online inquiries, which made booking and planning a breeze. I had to cancel my original appointment due to a family illness and when I came to reschedule he fitted me in really quickly. From the moment I stepped into his studio, I felt completely at ease. He took the time to sit down with me, talk through my ideas, and walk me through all the options available. His calm and professional demeanor gave me total confidence in the process. Plus he is one of the most interesting people I have ever met. The studio itself was immaculate, everything was clean, well-organized, and clearly maintained to the highest standards. What really stood out was the way he prepared for the tattoo. I had absolutely no idea what to expect and the software he used was incredible. It allowed me to see exactly how the tattoo would look before even beginning. The entire process was smooth, easy, and honestly enjoyable. I had read that a tattoo on your ribs is on a pain scale of 9 so I was really nervous. But it was so easy and really didn't hurt at all. Even after the tattoo was finished, Dat remained available to answer questions about aftercare, which made the healing process even easier. I couldn't be happier with the result. I would absolutely recommend Conviction Tattoo to anyone considering getting either your first tattoo like me or someone who is looking to add to their existing collection. Mine was very simple compared to his usual work and I am beyond thrilled that I found him. read more

This review is for Viet (but I met Dat and he's amazing too!). Viet is an incredible artist and the sweetest, funniest human. So easy to converse with but his artistic vision is so off the charts that I prefer to just let him make a lot of the calls on design. He led the whole process. I came in with an older, simple skate tattoo that was based off my old skates. I was hoping he could make it look more like my "forever" skate and then add some California love to it. I booked an appt several months out and he spent a lot of time texting me back and forth with design ideas. We went black and white at first but decided to add the color to the poppies and he made the tongue on the skate brighter and certain aspects like the shiny toe of the boot pop. It's a dead ringer for my actual skates now. He is easy to talk to and you get everything you pay for. Incredible detail. Shop is clean and comfortable. I highly recommend the shop and Viet for his art, color, and design work. I'm already booked again for something else. read more

These guys are the absolute BEST tattoo artists I've ever seen...and I've been around the block a few times! Viet actually corrected a tattoo that an artist (from Black Suit Tattoo) completely destroyed. I had some words under my collarbone that I wanted to be covered with flowers. This man actually drew around the words and you could still clearly see them. Viet is a very talented and professional artist and took his time preparing my ink for weeks. The final product was nothing short of incredible! Come through! Dat and Viet will make you very happy! You won't be disappointed!!! read more

We'll long story short, I was looking for a shop to have my first tattoo done. After careful consideration, through yelp and instagram, I found Conviction Tattoo was the perfect choice. I loved the amazing work that Dat and the shop offered. I called Dat, and I wanted to consult on how I wanted my piece done. The communication was amazing, he also gave great advice to a new comer that's starting their venture into the tattoo world. Being able to work with me to get the tattoo the same day, and even connected me with his artist Viet was amazing to see how much effort they go above and beyond for their clients. Viet was amazing! It was a pleasure having him during the design and tattoo process. Also, he had such steady hand that the pain in the beginning was so minimal, and I felt comfortable where the pain was barley noticeable after the first few mins! The cooperation on the piece and how much effort he put into making sure that I'll love the finished piece made me so thankful I chose Conviction Tattoo. I'm so grateful for Dat and Viet from Conviction Tattoo that they accepted to have my first tattoo done. I 100% recommend coming to Conviction Tattoo! It could be your first time getting a tattoo or even just wanted to get pieces done, they're amazing throughout the whole process from start to finish and they go above and beyond for their clients! read more

Paid by cash. Conviction Tattoo is upstairs, to the left when facing the building. It's a little confusing at first but if you go upstairs, go outside on the balcony, and walk all the way down until you get to Suite 206, it's right there. I found out about this place since I've been following Viet for years (7 to be exact.) He has a feather touch and I can sleep during my sessions. He's so talented and is able to incorporate all kinds of ideas easily. He can do all kinds of styles beautifully! I have flowers, butterflies, kois, music-related, ocean-themes... black and white, water color, colored, fine detail... I'm so happy with his work and can't wait to think of what I want next. I also met the owner, Dat, during the sessions and he's so nice and easy to talk to. He adds to the sessions and makes them entertaining. His work is awesome as well. I would definitely recommend this shop and would go back. See you guys soon! read more

I've been telling everyone I want a dragon tattoo for the past 10 years. Call me a sissy but as soon as I was getting my ink, I wanted to tap out lol that shit hurt!! Viet kept saying I could do it and encouraged me to keep going. Some jokes and 5 hours later, I look in the mirror and I was in love with my tattoo. Still am!! This guy is truly an artist. Thank you, Viet, for putting up with me and still giving me a dope ass tat. read more

So I had been looking around for an artist to help me with adding on to a piece that I already had on my chest. I wanted them to incorporate it with their own art and make it their own and add on to it with their art / art style. Let me just say for the 2-3 weeks I spent interviewing people around the Bay Area, this was by far the best I had. Look I work in sales, you have to have a process. You gotta include the customer with you on the journey and let them make this decisions and guide them to the answers. Dat, I swear to god was the only one who gave me the best consultation on what I was looking for and how he could help me get there with the ideas we collaborated with. The shop is also dope and he's a super chill hardworking dude as well. Trust me when I say, this dude + his process + his studio shop overall made me so confident and content with my decision to have him complete my piece. Looking forward to the next session! PS. A lot of these Bay Area tattoo artists are very arrogant, some didn't reply back to me, some just brushed me off, others just came off like I should be honored to even be speaking with them. Again, Dat was the chillest and most humble one. Trust me on this, I read people for a living. read more

I am extremely pleased with services and good vibes at Conviction Tattoo. I LOVE my new Japanese-style sleeve. My tattoo artist, Viet Nguyen, is the bomb!!! I told him that I would love to combine peonies and waves onto my sleeve. Main colors are black, blue and yellow and a tiny bit of pink. And he totally nailed it!! He was a good listener and totally understood my assignment for him. If you want to have Japanese-style sleeves, I really recommend Viet Nguyen. He is talented and, yet, is so humble and down to earth. Don't get me wrong, Dat is great, too!!! Highly recommend this place if you want to get one or many great pieces of arts done on your body! read more

Stumbled upon this page on yelp and was curious because I've never seen this place before while I searched for tattoo spots and it was very near to where I lived. Read the reviews and decided to hit Dat up and he replied quickly. I told him what I wanted and he got back to me within a few days with the drawing and it was what I exactly wanted and more. Did a couple sessions and completed my tattoo of an octopus and Hannya mask that I've always wanted and I'm glad I waited and found the right person to do exactly what I hoped for. Will definitely be coming back for more. It is located in a private studio and very clean, nice and lots of parking which always is a plus. Dat made the environment very comfortable and chill. Great conversation and it felt liked he was a friend then just a random tattoo artist tattooing you. Like a previous reviewer mentioned it does get pretty cold in his studio but I didn't mind it, but if you get cold easily I suggest you bring a sweater or a blanket with you! If you are looking for a tattoo place, this is where you should go! read more

You know you can tell a great tattoo artist by the returning clients you see. Dat is a trusted artist in the community, and if this is your first time, you'll appreciate that he doesn't rush you into a decision. By listening with intention, Dat will set the right expectation, show you an image, and let you sit with it for a little bit. Extremely clean and personalized space, and more importantly, he's quick and proficient in his role. Work is bold and clean. read more

If I could give Conviction Tattoo more then 5 starts I would.Okay so let me get started, The studio is super clean with dope art work all around. It's a PRIVATE STUDIO which makes the experience of getting a tattoo way more comfortable (idk about y'all but I feel anxious/ nervous and overall uncomfortable getting tatted in front of strangers). Dat made me feel comfortable through the whole process from the moment I walked in to the moment I was getting tattooed. He provided great conversation which makes time go by faster and less painful. Dat is super creative, talented and overall an amazing artist! He was able to take my scattered ideas and turn them into art. He made all of my pieces flow smoothly. I've been getting so many compliments and well every time I look at my 1/2 sleeve I fall more and more in love with it.... I can't wait to come back and finish my whole sleeve !! I moved to Palm Springs for 6 months and still drove 8 hours to get tatted by Viet. Needless to say, his work is beautiful. I get stopped regularly by strangers asking who does my work. What I loved initially about Viet was that he helped my with my artistic ideas. He has a creative mind and is clearly a natural talent. He took my confusing, jumbled ideas and was able to create art. After my first tattoo, I knew I would be returning to him. He was able to use fine lines where I wanted to create delicate feminine patterns, dark shading where necessary, as well as do watercolor to match my pre-existing watercolor tattoo. He has even freestyled on two of my pieces (without drawing them out first!) and they are gorgeous. I now have over 12 pieces my him, and that's not including my leg sleeve... He's worth it. Highly recommend. read more

It's been a while since my last tattoo. I had an ex name seeping through that needed a touch-up, and an old phoenix I had done in my teen years covered up lol. I was referred to Dat by a friend and I am so glad I went with him to do my tattoo work! He gave me his honest opinion and created a colorful peacock back piece I've always wanted! Yes it took forever and lots of pain was involved, but totally worth it in the end! I love my new back tattoo! The whole experience was comfortable and personal. His private studio is a plus, given a back piece I had to be topless and wouldn't want others to be waiting around. He was always professional from start to finish and on time with all my appointments. Dat is super laid back, chill guy, he looks intimidating but he's actually very friendly lol and easy to talk too. I still need to come back to color my flowers but I am happy with his work so far.
