Paul and his assistant Omar did such a great job on my front yard fence. I'm kind of picky in a…read morefew ways w/ what I wanted but in the end I got just what I wanted and it looks even better than I'd hoped. Very pleased. I wanted an all cedar fence, even cedar posts & caps, that way there are no toxic chemicals, just natural cedar which lasts anyway. At the time Paul came for the estimate he had not used cedar posts before but he went and got them and I got what I wanted! :-) (Most times posts are some cheaper wood soaked in a ton of chemicals.) You would think that's standard customer service that I would get what I wanted, but I spoke to a different well-reviewed fence company about a different idea and they were really set in their ways about what they do and don't do so it makes me even more pleased that Paul got the cedar posts. When I started contacting fencing people I contacted 4 different companies- 3 from yelp, 1 from Home Depot. One had a smug I know best attitude that turned me off, one no-showed for the estimate visit, one never emailed me w/the estimate after he'd visited and we'd been discussing styles. Paul on the other hand showed up for the estimate / viewing of the site when he said he would just 1.5 days after our initial contact, actually emailed me an estimate with some different options so I could see how cost affected things (key), and Paul did the fence on the day we agreed. I'm attaching photos of my fence which may seem quirky but it's JUST what I wanted. Below are just some details about what I wanted for those interested. This edge of our front yard overlooks a retaining wall and our neighbor's property. I wanted to garden all along there but didn't want to risk falling off the retaining wall. So this new fence is for safety and also esthetics. I also wanted a 1/2" gap in between pickets to let through lots of air since that site gets lots of wind and we get wind storms too. I think it's a nice handsome front yard fence w/the gaps. :-) Also I wanted 3 or 4" clearance at the bottom for weeding and I got that too. This site has an uneven slope downward for the length of the fence so I think they did a great job at still making the pickets look neat and orderly despite the odd slope of my property. That's the part that is better than I expected.

We had an outstanding experience with Carl at Better Call Carl! From start to finish, his…read morecommunication was excellent. He set up an appointment to meet with us right away and sent over a very professional, detailed quote the same day. He got us on his schedule quickly and completed the job to absolute perfection. Five years ago we had carpet installed and were left with an annoying gap between the carpet and the baseboard. It drove me crazy! Carl not only handled the installation beautifully, but he also made sure the new padding was thick enough to eliminate that gap entirely. A problem that bothered me for five years - gone in one day thanks to Carl. Fast, professional, detail-oriented, and genuinely thoughtful. We couldn't recommend him more!

We will not be working with Better Call Carl again. Last November, we hired him to perform a…read more"bathroom refresh". Hooked us in with a great price and great initial communication. On the first day on the renovation, we went through all the details of changes we wanted to make with his team. Somehow, these details never came to fruition. They did a great job with the drywall, painting, and tub installation - however, their tile work in the shower is subpar (the tiles were placed crooked and we had to go in to regrout ourselves). We previously had plumbing work done, so the cabinetry underneath the vanity had to be replaced. Better Call Carl figured the best way to do this was to just patchwork plywood (we went back ourselves to fix). He also didn't see the need for continuous baseboards (see photo). The biggest problem we have is with the floors - we also had terrazzo floor tiles placed and confirmed with the team prior to starting that there were enough tiles to complete the project. The floor is not up to industry standard nor ADA requirements. The grout lines are all different sizes and the actual tiles are not level, resulting in a trip hazard. There are also tiles that have been chipped both during and after installation. We reached out to Better Call Carl after work was complete to see if he could replace the floor - he was reluctant to come back, but he did end up replacing two tiles (out of 21). Even after the second round, the floor is a little more level, but nowhere near the standard or expectation. There are still chipped tiles, uneven grout lines, and tiles that are not level. We will be buying new tiles and having the floor redone, so we asked for a partial refund (for just the work on the floor), which was denied. We then tried to see if there was any other resolution we could agree on since Better Call Carl claims he has a one-year warranty. He refused to uphold his warranty. We'll be going with another professional from here on and would not recommend Better Call Carl to anyone.

DO NOT HIRE THIS COMPANY. I WOULD GIVE ZERO STARS IF I COULD. Here is my story…read more.. Project took place on our neighbor's property approximately June 17th-24th, 2020. We had no contract with American Built Fence for replacing our gate. Only an estimate was given to us by our neighbor. The estimate was for 8 feet of fence and a gate, when in reality it was only 3 feet of fence and a gate. We were never contacted in any way (phone, email, text, or in person) by American Built Fence about replacing our gate before, during or after the project. I came home one day towards the end of our neighbor's project to the gate replaced. However, the gate was 8" in the air and did not have a handle. Shortly after, American Built finished our neighbors project and left the site. They never had any contact with us about how the gate turned out or any other contact and any other time. And they left our side of the fence and gate area a mess including soil, large chunks of concrete, as well as pieces of our neighbor's shed they had demolished. In addition, during the project they were drinking (and drunk) on the job. They finished off a 12 pack between three guys one afternoon. To make matters worse they even left their garbage (including beer bottles) on our property. (Wish I would have taken pictures!) They also damaged our vegetation including breaking branches that were a few feet off the fence line. A few weeks later when I was contacted about paying, we called and voiced our complaints (finally realizing they weren't coming back to clean up). We told them we would pay the amount they billed (which was higher than it should have been - based on 8 feet of fence versus 3 feet), but they needed to come back and lower the gate to the correct height as well as put on a handle. I text (which is how they were [very unprofessionally] contacting me) and they didn't text me back about coming back to fix/complete the job. When they didn't get back to me, I called the office and was told the lady was out of the office and would give me a call back. She never called back. On September 1, 2020 just 5 weeks later, I received a letter from a debt collector and realized they must have immediately turned me into a debt collector rather than trying to work things out with us.

In the fall of 2019 my wife and I decided that we needed a large deck put on the back of our house…read more My wife has some mobility issues so we had specific requirements that we needed in this deck. We got several bids and after meeting with Shane we knew he was the guy. He helped us design a beautiful 300sqft Trex deck that allows for our BBQ and entertaining passions. Throughout the process we faced a lot of setbacks at the hands of Mother Nature. Our setbacks included terrible rain, some serious flooding. Supplies being delayed and the supplier almost trying to crush their company truck and then additional delays caused by the beginning of COVID-19 closures. None of these setbacks I would directly blame on the contractor. They also had to get rid of an employee and got backed up on other work. So in the end the construction took a lot longer than expected. However we now have the perfect deck with custom low slope stairs that are perfect for my wife. The level of craftsmanship is exactly what we were looking for and now our deck is beautiful, solid and makes the exact statement we wanted it to on our house. We have already used Shane for some fence repairs and we would not hesitate to use them again for other projects. In the end like all projects we ended up a little over budget and it took longer than we had anticipated but we got an amazing deck that we love and that has already impressed neighbors.
