I had a haircut, I asked for specific style, My haircut was 10 minutes with a long blow dry. I was overdue for a haircut and Darren cut 1/4 inch off just around my face and I asked for layers on the sides. He told me I didn't need them and he didn't like layers in the back. The Salon is top notch from the back house to the front house staff. Their quality is as fine as the best Manhattan salons. They always try to accommodate my schedule as I travel frequently. I continue to be impressed with Rich, one of the owners, who has an intense appreciation for how to run a business AND how to make every client look much better than when they walked into the salon. I went to the salon about a week ago to speak to someone about my hair. I have always had naturally black hair but as I get older I see the need to lighten it a little bit. I was greeted nicely and professionally by the front desk. I met with Victor and discussed what I wanted and scheduled my appointment. Victor Conte worked on the process of lightening my hair color - and he did a fabulous job!! Paul cut and blow dried my hair. He cut off exactly the amount I wanted and styled it perfectly. This will be my new salon. They are extremely professional, know what they are doing and very nice. They don't rush through your appointment and do a fabulous job!! I'm not even sure on how to start this review. It's heart breaking to even write this considering it's not a good one. My experience at Conte Salon has to be the worst experience I've ever had in a salon. But I will start with something positive... once I arrived I was greeted well by the team & very friendly staff. I was so excited to have my hair done considering it's been a long time since I had anyone do my hair. I however should have known that something was going to go wrong because of how my stylists' consultation began. To give context to this, I'm a hairdresser and have been for over 15 years, so I know when a stylist makes you feel rushed and not listened to. However, I decided to keep going because I was having my hair done by one of the owners of the salon, Rich. So I trusted him and his work. During my consultation, I was definitely rushed, he made me feel as if I was annoying him by asking him so many questions (with good reason) and to please do a "test strand" before my American Wave perm treatment because I kept telling him "I have heavily highlighted hair". He continued to say "you'll be fine, I've done this on highlighted hair before, we have a perm specifically for colored hair". Again, I trusted him. I remember telling him over and over "please take good care of my hair". My hair was so healthy at this point, it wasn't damaged, it was soft, air dried nicely and I really worked so hard to get it there prior to my appointment. I did my research, I knew that my hair would be able to go through this process if done correctly. He began by applying the rods to my hair rather quickly and with no proper technique, it felt so messy and unorganized. I proceeded to tell him to leave the chemical on for half the time it advised on the instructions. The worst part, he had one of his assistants apply everything on me at the shampoo bowl, a woman who I'm sure isn't even licensed to do this, I should have known at this point. She basically did his job for him while he attended other clients. There was absolutely no individual attention given, it felt like one of those salons that say "Okay, next!". So sad. I understand that these are difficult times right now which is more of a reason to be one of those salons that wants to retain a client and have them come back for life, to generate trust and confidence not completely shatter it. To make this long story short, my hair was DAMAGED, BURNT TO A CRISP. At this point it's irreparable no matter how much I treat or condition it. They left the product on for too long while they mixed "more of it". The lady applying it AND Rich had to look at the instructions while they were doing my hair as if they didn't remember what they were doing. I remember getting up from that chair over to the mirror and I felt like my world just crumbled. It has come off in chunks, has broken off in so many areas, I can't brush my hair wet or dry. It is in the worst possible condition. I will include pictures of my hair air dried before to it air dried now. Rich, if there is one thing I can tell you as some advice and as the owner of a salon... Listen to your clients, give thorough consultations, research and learn the products, offer your guests something to drink, make them feel comfortable and not rushed, educate your staff. Don't let this salon get to the point where it's all about the money versus guest satisfaction. The client is important, it's what makes your business thrive and stay afloat especially during these times. You have no idea what you have done to me, it's been emotionally draining at this point. But I wish you luck and hope you don't do this again to someone else. Just sad and disappointed it had to be me. This is just wrong. read more

hi so just checked my yelp to see the response from the owner of the salon who tortured my hair! I'm STILL growing out the hairs along my face that got singed off from the "owner" slapping bleach on my head and nothing else. let me explain this one last time. this "salon" is the nastiest, rudest, and most unprofessional salon i've stepped foot into. I travel from Vegas to Florida, so I've been to countless salons and have never felt the need to leave a nasty review, so i know when a hairdresser knows what they're doing. The "owner" who was taking care of me initially gave me something i didnt ask for. he told me to return, and i did. he retaliated with frustration over me being displeased and ruined my hair. i felt his aggression the entire visit, and i will continue to hold my grudge against this salon. if i had the time of day i'd stand outside it with a sign that reads "this place sucks", but i sadly cannot find the time. the dumbest part about that visit was that i told him exactly how to fix my brunette roots to turn them blonde. bleach, toner, possibly highlights. he put bleach on me for 45 minutes then proceeded to hand me a hair dryer when it was time to dry my hair. let me repeat that. THE OWNER OF THIS SALON ACTUALLY HANDED ME A HAIRDRYER TO BLOWDRY MY OWN HAIR. fuck this place it sucks. Artisans Salons a good place if you're looking to switch. haha. fuck you guys y'all literally are a gang of idiots. This week I checked out a few salons. I needed serious color correction. I did not like anyone I talked to until I came here. I met Kristi who did a consultation with me. I liked her right away because unlike the others I had talked to she sounded knowledgeable and made recommendations that I liked. I booked to come back today. I am very happy I chose to come back to this salon. I absolutely love what Kristi did with my hair. We made it a lighter more flattering red with subtle highlights. The salon is wicked nice. I don't normally get my nails done at a different salon, but there was a coupon that gave me half off a manicure and pedicure for first time customers. The welcoming vibe suits the atmosphere well. The manicurist was on time with my appointment and did a good job with my nails. The women around me were talking about hot flashes and everything else that I'm not looking forward to in the years to come. The prices are little more expensive than the affordable salon, so that's why I was a happy camper when I came across the coupon. $22 for a manicure and a French pedicure isn't too shabby. read more

I'm not someone to publicly shame a business, but after giving this one the chance to do right by the customer even after my color was not close to what I came in for (brown) but bronze/orange instead l, they clearly do not know or care what customer service looks like. The hairdresser finally acknowledged at the end of my appt that it wasnt brown and didn't look right and she'd fix it when I could come back. I made appt for the following weekend - called the manager during the week to make sure the way the hairdresser said she'd fix it was right given her judgement wasn't spot on initially with my hair. Manager said the process she was going to fix wasn't right but a single process should do it. I said great, and I imagine they'll blow dry it before I leave. The manager (actually owner) said they'd charge me for the blow dry. I expressed how I did not think that was right given I sat in their salon for 3 hours the Saturday before to come out with orange hair and would appreciate when they fix it they blow it so I have the look I paid for in Saturday. The owner was not understanding at all and adamant that I'd have to pay. I shouldn't have gone back but wanted my hair fixed and thought that a neighborhood place would maybe do right by a customer if they were in person. Turns out when I went back, not only were they not apologetic at all, but the hairdresser told the girl who was washing my hair to set me up with a station and a blow dry when she was done for me to dry my hair. I emphatically told the girl who was washing that wouldn't be necessary and I suggest she get a job at a salon that values and appreciates their customers business. Horrible experience. If I could make that one star a negative, I would. All I wanted was my hair to look brown, normal as it been for years, cut and blown out. Visiting from Boston and was in dire need of a haircut and color. I called Conte in the morning as I was in the area and was greeted on the phone by an incredibly nice and courteous woman who was able to fit me in within 15 minutes of my call. The place is very clean, lively, friendly and comfortable. My appointment was with Paul who introduced himself and really took the time to look at my hair, discuss with me what my needs were and add great insight based on his experience. The end result was a fabulous, rich and bright color and a great haircut. Added bonuses were fresh coffee, bagels and cream cheese, a long head massage during the washing and incredibly friendly people throughout the place. I walked into Conte a disaster from Toni & Co. My roots were almost black and I'm extremely fair skin with freckles. My cut was super uneven and choppy. I literally walked into Conte in tears. I saw Pam and she was absolutely wonderful. So nice and patient. She was able to lift that horrible color out of my hair and actually got me to about where I wanted to be in the first place.
