This experience with BGE Home has been very frustrating and disappointing. We have been without A/C and heating since last summer. At the start of each season we would lose service of either the A/C or the heating system. The technicians would come out and identify the problem and order the wrong part or forget to order the part, over and over again, so by the time the issue gets resolved, the season has ended. This is an issue that is ongoing since last summer and winter. We've reached out to the parts manager for updates and he rarely responds. We are still waiting for our heating system to be fixed because we're waiting on another part that is now going on 2 months without updates. Someone from BGE needs to look into the low performance of this service. read more

Today is 7/2/17, I am writing today because as of yesterday, I was told my AC unit was gone and needed to be replaced. The technician that came out on 7/1 did the usual after I told him my unit was no longer blowing colder air. He opened the outside unit, attached his sensors and replied, "yes, the unit is bad and it must be leaking freon". I told him the unit was not blowing cold air in May 2017 and a technician came out, cut wiring on the unit, spliced it together and said it was now blowing cold again. The technician indicated that my unit was a heat pump that had been converted (I don't know what that means) and sometimes the wiring gets screwed up. He mentioned something about cutting the wire going straight to the thermostat or maybe straight to the unit. I don't remember, I was just happy that he made it blow cold air during a hot season. In early June, the unit stopped working again so when the tech came out this time, he simply said the unit was old, leaking freon somewhere and would probably need to be replaced because it appears that it was installed in 1995. He told me that I could spend upwards of $1200 to have someone come out and look for the leak and try to fix it that way. I've been paying the $27.95 to BGE Home since 2009 and this is the response that I get. The technician was in and out of my house within 15 minutes. A few hours later someone called me and told me he could come by on Monday after noon to talk about my options. Something is not right here. Why, since 2009, I have never had to have my wires cut and spliced and when that happens, a month later; my unit stops working again. I live alone and don't use the majority of my home. I am willing to give the employee coming on Monday, 7/3 the benefit of the doubt but I suspect all he will be trying to do is to sell me a new high priced unit. I can't say BGE Home is a rip off yet but I am left with a feeling of discomfort after so many year of having no problems and then having wires cut, spliced and put back together. I'm not going to take this one down lying. This place is a joke pay into a plan for 10 years and get told that I qualify for 24/7 emergency services. Cant get an answer on Saturday. Finally get ahold of someone on sunday and they scheduled me for Wednesday afternoon. Asked to speak with a supervisor and was told one would call me back. Never heard back from them. Now when I call back in now that it's Wednesday there telling me my tech could be as late as 930 pm and that there are no supervisors available to speak with me. We came home after a bad storm and the central air unit would not turn on. We had BGE home come out to give us an estimate and see what was wrong. Instead of being honest he tried to make the sale. He tried to sell us a brand new unit when he could see nothing was actually wrong with ours. Don jones wanted $9400.00 for a brand new system and the only problem we had was that a breaker blew during the storm. He actually took a picture of this on his phone! He knew what was wrong. The surge protector did not work at all. They came to assess the damage and told me that it is BGEs fault and they will not be covering the damage. ad a no heat situation in January 2019. Called BGE Home for diagnosis. Tech diagnosed gas control valve was defective and gave estimate in excessive of $1000.00. Tech also identified an orange line as a crack in the heat exchange making it unsafe to use. He recommended to replace unit at a cost of $6500.00 minium. Looks at the faucet and says "has to be replaced" I say, its a Moen - its got a lifetime warranty. Unfortunately, another customer experience that warrants 0 stars but Yelp will not allow this. 1. Tech came out over a week ago, said they didn't have part to fix AC. Said they'd call back to schedule when they had it. 2. Multiple automated calls to schedule. When you call them back, you will wait at least 30-45 minutes to get a person on the phone. 3. Service was scheduled but 1st available appointment was week later. 4. If you miss the call the day of your visit, THEY CANCEL appointment. That's right...you miss the call, you call back 2 minutes later (I was on the other line) then you start over from scratch and get next available appointment a week or 2 or whenever they feel like servicing you. This was my 1st experience with this company and has been a nightmare. Then the billing issue. We signed up for a promotional trial for $1 for 1st 3 months. They billed us the full rate for the service. When you call billing, during the limited hours they are available, you will have to wait 30-45 minutes. If you get someone, you will get put on hold, disconnected and you can start the merry go round again. I do not know how this company has any positive reviews. This has been pure garbage to date & I'd recommend folks STAY CLEAR AWAY FROM THIS FIRM! read more

Just bought my 2nd full system (heat pump & air handler) from BGE Home, the first was for my former residence. The price, quality and service from BGE Home has always been great. It was a 2 man job and took 8 hours, but they finished my install in a day and it looked great and worked perfectly. I only received one competing bid which was thousands higher. I trust BGE Home and they have a great warranty on everything they sell. I should also mention that our salesman was very friendly and came out the next day after our initial call. He gave us a few system options and went over the benefits of each, then came back the next day (Sunday) to finalize the contract. read more

Called to have a gas pipe to my grill capped, was surprised when I got a fast appointment, and further surprised when I got an email confirmation for a TEN hour window (12 noon-10:30pm). I thought that was weird and it was because Gerald never came. I got a voicemail from the company saying they were sorry to have missed me and to call to reschedule. I called and she said she didn't know why Gerald did not show up. To add further insult, their next opening is not for two weeks, why would I wait and then Gerald, etc not show up again for no reason. I wanted my electric hot water tank replaced. I had hot water, but my tank was at the end of its life expectancy. BGE Home gave me a good price. They sent someone to install a new tank twice. The first person did nothing but complain. My inside water cutoff valve was not working and he needed to turn off my water from the outside. Since I did not know where my outside water cutoff was located, he told me I needed to call the County to locate and mark my outside water cutoff. The County came out the next day, marked the water cutoff location and inspected to ensure it turned on and off. The second BGE Home installation person came out two days later, cut the pipes to my hot water tank, drained the tank, then went outside to turn off the water. He then told me he was having a problem turning off the water from the outside, and I would need to have the County turn off the water before he could proceed further. I called the County while he was still at my home, they could be at my house within 2 hours. He made a phone call, then said he could not wait, could not return that day, and did not reschedule. He left me with no hot water and no reschedule date. I called a reputable company the next day. A tech arrived at my home within 2 hours of the call, turned off the outside water cutoff, replaced the inside cutoff valve, and installed a new tank. Save yourself time and frustration. Made a service appointment for my AC unit over the phone on 6/29/21. Was told the earliest they could come was one week later on 7/6/21. Received an email after the phone call confirming my appointment and giving me a window of 12-5pm for the service technician to arrive. One day before, on 7/5/21 received an email reconfirming my appointment for the next day with the same arrival window. Waited for the technician from 12-5pm on 7/6/21. Called customer service as 5:01pm asking what happened. Was told that the "afternoon" service window actually extended to 9pm even though my emails said 5pm., that I was still on the schedule and my technician would text me when he/she was on the way. Never showed up and never received a text or any indication that he/she was not going to make it. Wasted an entire day. Would definitely not recommend. read more

I have been a customer of BGE for over 8 years or more. I am leaving this review with the hopes that management actually resolves this problem. I absolutely feel sick to my stomach when I have to call in a service which is maybe once or twice a year. I live in a community with limited parking. I have had technicians get angry with me because I did not move my car for them to park. I literally had one fuss me out and I had to ask him to leave. I had surgery and could not move the car. That was a few years ago. Since then I have had a few come and I went out of my way to make sure I move my car rain, sleet or snow. This should not be as a customer. This should be a part of the job. I know that I cannot be the only customer with parking issues. Parking ususally is a few spaces over. I had one come today. I politely told the service representative that it snowed and I didn't think that there would be parking. People were home. She told me that they would be prepared. The technician called and I told him the same thing. He seemed upset over the phone. He called me when he arrived with an attitude. I told him to park in the neighbor's park and I would look out to make sure there were no problems. He is pretty upset and says where is parking. I have to be firm and let him know that parking is scattered. It had snowed and families were all parked in them. The whole appointment was a bit strained. I really didn't understand what he did to my unit. I just wanted him to leave. He tracked dirt in on my carpet and floor and just left things really bad. I understand that is frustrating to them but this should be an internal fix. Management needs to fix it. If parking is an issue then don't award coverage to customers who can't move the car. I should have to be afraid if I can't move my car. I could see if it was one person but this is a common issue. I will look for another company but just wanted to leave this review with the hope that management at least does something internally. read more

I purchased a new Trane HVAC unit in January 2021 and a week ago, it started leaking coolant. Called BGE home for a repair, they come out and say it needs a part. The part arrives, and they say they're coming out on a Sunday between 12-5. No one shows. I called "customer service" and got "oh no, they're not coming we called you no one answered. Besides, the parts department isn't open today so we rescheduled you." I was home all day, no calls from BGE Home whatsoever. Must be a protocol of theirs to insist a call was made when it was not. Also, I was told I was rescheduled for Weds 8/25; no one verified that this was a good date for me. So basically my new HVAC that BGE HOME INSTALLED isn't working during one of the hottest weeks of the year, I explained to no fewer than 3 people including a manager that I have sick elderly people in my home and their response was "yeah we can get you in on the 27th." Completely & totally unacceptable. If I had known their service was this abysmal, I would have gone with another vendor. Seriously some of the most unprofessional, non-customer service focused interactions ever. Apologies & realizing there's frustration are meaningless when you keep trying to make your problem the customer's problem. No more services or purchases from BGE Home. Not worth the frustration, time or poor customer service. Can't strive to meet customer expectations by treating them like they don't matter since you have their money. I rated this 1 star only because I had to post the review. If I could have left none, I would have. **Several hours later** A customer support employee called me to see when they could schedule my repair. They were still pushing for a day that I wasn't available and found a way to book someone for sometime Tuesday (today) with no commitment on what time they're supposed to arrive, only a 4.5 hr window this morning. Let me start with saying, I have had more then a few bad encounters with BGE Home. Anywhere from the customer service reps that answer the phone to the technician's that have came out to my house. Every time I have to deal with them, I seriously contemplate keeping them when I move into my new house that is being built. I work for Pella and worked for the service dept. for 12 yrs so I know how good customer service is supposed to be. With that being said, I have a very high but reasonable expectation on the customer service I receive. Now, on to my review for today's service. I scheduled online so I did not have to deal with any reps over the phone...which is very good because the last couple times I think I have spoken with someone, they have been chewing in my ear or just have no answers to my questions. The technician that came out was, David Kammann, he was GREAT! The problem I was having was simple and he knew exactly what it was once I showed him the error code. He was very kind, professional and explained everything. Once he solved the minor problem and cleared the error code, he still checked everything else! This almost NEVER happens. He went outside, cleaned my unit and made sure everything was good and running like it should. I was super excited about that because like I said, that almost never happens. Everyone that has ever came to my home from BGE Home fixed what they THOUGHT it was and left quickly and I usually end up having to call back because the problem was not fixed. I also loved how he acknowledge my cat, Bella. He was very friendly, even though she's a big scaredy cat, lol. He told me about his cats, which was nice too because my oldest son has always wanted the breed of cat he has, so it was helpful! Anyway, he left me his card and I plan to request him every time I have service because this might be the first time, in 11 yrs of having BGE Home, that I am extremely happy with my service! Had our entire system replaced in June. Bought a service plan as well. Thursday, January 6th the heat stopped working.Called BG home Thursday evening. The soonest we got a technician was Saturday. The time frame was 12-5. The technician arrived 1 hour past the time frame at 6 pm. He was at the house for 2 hours. The response was he was not sure what was wrong but will try to replace the thermostat. Somehow the thermostat I had to accept to receive a promotion when we bought the system was now a special order. So they order the part. Then let you know when it arrives. Then you have to call schedule a technician. Now at this point I am trying to keep my cool. Go through the motions. They schedule the technician for today Wednesday. He/she never showed up. No contact. Nothing. Called them AGAIN and there was a computer glitch. The soonest they can get someone out is now Friday. I wish I had gone with the smaller company who might have cost a bit more but I guarantee the service would have been better. $11,000 lesson learned. read more

The "tech" wow far from a tech he and a plumber charged 750.00 for 2 60.00 water valves. That wasn't the problem I went to their house and in 15mins I cleaned the flame rod and electrode with steel wool and it's fixed. When she returned she asked again for my phone number and address which I had given her prior to being placed on hold. She then told me a manager would be calling me later today. Well it is 7:45 pm and I've not received a call. I give up, and I now know why the tech who was to come to my home works for BGEHome and not Michael & Sons!!!! Btw, a Technician from Michael & Sons arrived at my home at 8:30 a.m. this morning to inspect my water heater. I was given an estimate for a new water heater and was told there were sediments in my tank, but he expressed he believes I can delay replacing it for a couple of months. He advised me to monitor it for leaks, but again, didn't feel I needed to immediately replace it. That's the service I expect to receive and am grateful to Michael and Sons for the professional they sent to my house. BGE Homes could learn a thing or two from them. Also, to the manager (Amanda, I believe) who monitors and responds to these reviews, it would have been beneficial to actually respond/reply to your response, but that capability doesn't exist. read more

They treat their appointments with a VERY broad range of time, scheduled my appointment (first time using them) for a Tuesday after 12. I waited all day in a hot home with a broken AC and they showed up 8pm (after three separate calls). The technician was very friendly though and he gave me a discount for waiting all day after promptly fixing the problem on my AC unit. I don't blame him for taking so long, it's the way they run their appointments, it doesn't work very well at all. Although the tech did a great job, I doubt I'd use them again. I'm not easily impressed, and tend to have pretty high expectations of service providers in general. Having said that, I was very impressed and pleased with BGE Home during our recent HVAC replacement. Our salesman, Chris Crocetti, presented us with a wide array of options and was able to get us a top-of-the-line system at a fair price point. We had talked to a number of folks who had recently replace systems in homes similar to ours, and who had used multiple different providers, so we had a decent idea of what we expected to pay. Their 36 month interest free financing was very helpful also. The installation crew was efficient and professional. By lunchtime our den and utility closet looked like the scene of a construction project; 3 hours later it was spotless and you'd never know any work had been done there. Their service includes a 5 year protection plan including service calls, parts, and labor- and also covers our water heater also which is original equipment from when our townhouse was built in 1998. We were very impressed with BGE Home and would wholeheartedly recommend them to friends and family. read more

An update following the face that I have had to go back to BGE Home again due to warranty issues...After another company suggested that my furnace was broken due to a gas valve that BGE Home had replaced 13 months prior (just out of warranty), I had them come out several more times. The first time, I was told it definitely wasn't the gas valve, but the circuit board ($$). They replaced that. The second time, I was told that it wasn't the circuit board, but the ignitor. They replaced that for free. This morning a technician came out and said to me word-for-word, "Okay, I'm going to tell you what's happening even though you're not going to understand me." He then proceeded to explain that it was the gas valve. They are replacing the just-out-of-warranty part for free, but that's immaterial since they have already sold me an unnecessary circuit board that would have cost roughly the same amount anyway. i was happy with the service until today and this is true story of what happened to me. I saw a few weeks ago that my Thermostadt was out and when the air stayed at 80 and last week was in the 90 + i called in Tuesday to say its time for a service man to come and i got Thursday afternoon waiting the six hours . Luckly he called my home phone for I lost my cell phone Tuesday night , and its out of energy so difficult to find in the house now. and by 11:"30am tech man came out and fixed it. late afternoon i went to have a snack and found that the refrig was not making its normal noise and did not show signs of being on. I had a fall on Monday at a nearby restaurant so going down stairs to the breaker was out of my doing with aches and pains where i fell on a chair that broke my tripping . I called the service of which i have been a faithful member for many years and i was told ' sorry we cannot come out to 11am Friday of which i asked if the service man who came out tripped the breaker which he did and flipped my refrigerator to off. who pays for my spoiled food in my refrig? i ask and he says ' Oh they will be just fine. ' they will be out by 11am and guess what folks. this is my end of my doing business with BG&E home for now i have to call a food place to deliver my vegan meal too? Refrigerator was working fine until the Tech man came to see what was keeping my theromstadt low and i get a non working refrigerator when it says on the website they work to 8pm and its an emergency now at 6 49pm when i call? This in the website we aim to please and will work to be there when you need us . please . dont bother to want to hire people whose website isnot backing up what they say they provide. read more

Well, I will go out on a limb and give them a positive review....so far. I have found in the past, with other companies, the minute I give a good review, BAM! They screw up, so.... Overall, very satisfied. We have used them twice. The first time for the hot water heater. The tech did get delayed, and instead of the afternoon, they wanted to know if they could come the next day. Nothing is ever REALLY a crises, so, sure. They compensated by giving us a month for free, so very nice. As it turned out, the tech was able to come out later that day. They said 7 pm, and it was 7:10, so no big deal. The tech was good about keeping us up to date. The furnace died on Tuesday, and the earliest appointment was Thursday between 8 and noon. We would not be back until 3, so they were flexible, and advised the tech. He arrived at 2:45, and we were home. We moved in the house in '92, and the unit is THAT old. He knew right away the age, approximately 30 years old, and knew right away the issue. Was able to fix it in 30 minutes. Up and running. He advised it has limited life, and on the way out, looked at the A/C, and guessed the age of that one as well. OLD, so, we are on borrowed time. I would give their customer service and techs a "5" so far. The overall "4" was it was a day and a half before they could get out, but, hey, it is winter, so no crises there. Overall, to date, sure, I would highly recommend. p.s.--I am impressed to see their management reply to each Yelp review, good or bad. Good points for this one. read more

We have contacted BGE home services 3 weeks ago to fix a geothermal system under their warranty. Summary of problems encountered include: 1) It took BGE Home over one week to get replacement parts for our system; 2) Repair had to be rescheduled twice over one week interval due to lack of knowledge of our heating system by dispatched repair technician; 3) We called customer service 8 times since the start of the problem. Each time, customer service representatives were unable to provide up to date and accurate status and case history on our situation due to lack of documentation and records. In addition, customer service representatives are poorly trained, unsympathetic and curt. 4) We attempted to escalate our case and requested a service manager to call us back on several occasions but are still waiting. read more

Don't do it!!! This company is unprofessional. 2 yrs ago they honored my warranty for a annual check. Now, when the cost was 2k to replace the coil, they did not. They quoted me 2k, then when i told them I had a warranty, they showed up to repair it...ONLY after I agreed to pay 2k....completely ignored my warranty. They didnt provide a work order, and estimate, or an itemized receipt....all of which I ask for! Not doing so is their way of changing the story and avoiding responsibility. As a Veteran, I suggest using another company. About 1.5-2 years ago BGE Home (BGEH) came out and did an annual checkup before the winter season. The Technician #1 advised me that there was a problem with my unit and the part would cost $60 and the labor would be $60 for a total of $120. I then showed him the dates of the warranty stickers on my unit. Magically, when I asked later if the broken part was replaced, he said that it was ok, he just had to tighten a screw. Fast forward to July 2020: My unit started squeaking, not cooling, always running, and when I checked the filters they were wet. Typical signs of a leaking coil. I called BGEH, and they verified that the coil needed replacing. The technician #2 said that if I was the original owner or if I'd had the warranty transferred into my name then it would be honored (since it expired on 8/2/20, in about 10 days). If not, then the total cost would be $2,077.00. When I asked why the previous technician honored the warranty without questioning if I was the original homeowner, he stated that , "he should have asked". Technician#2 said that it would take 1-2 weeks before they could get the part and as he walked back to his vehicle I asked if I needed a work order or some paperwork, he said "No, we'll take care of it". The next day I called Trane, informed them of the need for a coil replacement and had the warranty transferred to my name. About two days later, BGEH called to inform me that the part was in and schedule the repair. At which time I was sure to inform them that I now had a warranty for the work. After cancelling the first appointment the day of, a manager, Manager #1(female) apologized and rescheduled my appointment for Saturday Technican#3 called said he was 15 min away and said that the charge would be $2,077.00. I kindly reminded him that I had a warranty to which he stated that his job is to do what he is told and he was told to replace the coil and collect $2,077.00. When technician #3 arrived, I showed him the warranty on the unit (which he did not even care to look at). However he did call his manager, Boss/Manager #2 (Jason), who called me. Rather than repeat myself, I simply texted him a photo of both the warranty for Labor (from BGEH) and the warranty for parts (from TRANE) and a copy of my warranty. Nevertheless, after the work was completed, technician #3 STILL asked for the same $2,077.00. I decided to wait until the following Monday call TRANE confirm the conditions of my warranty, then take it up with a manager at BGEH. On Monday, TRANE informed me that they did indeed cover the part but not the labor, that BGEH would have to cover any labor ( I later surmised that given the option to cover or not cover labor, BGEH opted out of coverage once the original homeowner sold the property). Armed with this confirmation, I called BGEH...multiple times.... Again...and again... No answer. I then called Manager #2, Jason,( that had called me on Saturday, to whom I'd sent the photos of the warranties) . I expressed how I was over charged...in summary, he stated that how it works is when BGEH returns the old coil removed from my unit, they will get a refund.... so I thought this meant that my refund would come after the old coil is returned, he said NOT! When I asked him directly how much of the $2,077.00 did I pay toward parts, he said "nothing". Tired...I simply shared with him my requests before I cancelled the payment with my bank.
