Horrible! I bought a bed there. They broke one of the slats taking the bed down. Turns out all of the bed slats/rails are useless. Sleeping on the floor until I can replace the bed rails. Worst part is they knew they were damaged. And said nothing. read more

I loved this place. Spent many weekends wandering the aisles. It pains me to give this rating. First trip today since mid March. Apparently masks are "optional" even though it's a state mandate. 25% of customers? Wearing their mask under their chin. No enforcement. Absolute sh#t show. I will not be going back anytime soon. Unfortunate that such a neat place has not taken the pandemic seriously. Returned recently for the first time since March and I do agree with H.F. who posted below and had a similar experience with the lack of mask wearing and mask enforcement. Especially since most all small business have gone the extra mile to prepare for reopening to make sure that customers feel safe and welcome. The cleanliness of this place scares me a bit. There are concerning piles of various types of items front and back of building that honestly look like trash piles and the bathrooms could use an honest deep clean. Staff was friendly but not very helpful. I mean can we be proactive and progressive here, just disappointed. Also not sure if this is an anit-masker environment but #blacklivesmatter and Covid-19 is real can we treat it as such folks. read more

This place takes the cake for worst employees I've ever encountered, anywhere. (Mostly this is directed to the two guys who haunt the front desk, the guy walking about the floor is as nice and helpful as can possibly be.) It's one thing to be ambivalent about your job, it's quite another to be painfully terrible at it and curtly dismissive to your customers. Things the employees will not do, and will give you "I don't give a flying -" attitude while doing it - contact a vendor if an item doesn't have a price on it, thus letting a customer walk out of the store and losing the sale. 101 sales, make the effort, especially if a customer is excited about a piece. They absolutely will not call a vendor under any circumstances whatsoever. (Some vendor phone numbers are on the floor, but not all.) So much for good relations with your sellers. They act like they could not care if you buy anything, and does it show, whewww. Don't you take a cut of the profits? Shouldn't this offer sellers the benefit of you TRYING to do your job with any modicum of competency? Or are you just there to push the cash register buttons and that's it. But I digress, back to things they refuse to do. Hold anything. Most antique/consignment stores will do an hour at least, up to a 24 hour courtesy hold, including if you buy often. They could care less, with enthusiasm! Only there's no enthusiasm, they look quite dead behind the eyes. Do anything remotely considered common courtesy or service to either buyers or sellers. Their detached dismissiveness eclipses insulting. I've met some of the sellers here while shopping, they're very warm and passionate people, and I want to support their businesses - but it's difficult when the employees running the show do not give a tiff if anything sells. You get the feeling they don't want you there and to leave them alone. I don't need a red carpet rolled out when I shop somewhere, but it's in the nature of antique stores that conversations and sometimes bartering occurs. I've only worked in sales my whole life and been antiquing all over the country for 20 years though, so what do I know. They stonewall you like it's the only thing that gives them joy in life. Though again, with their expressionless masks they wear, I'm only speculating. My question is this - why even run a consignment shop if you so obviously loathe your customers and are not there to help the sellers? You don't care at all that they're the legs you stand on to earn a profit? To the point where you're a hair away from chasing customers off? Really hate going into this place and dealing with the workers. It gets 2 stars ONLY (and I mean ONLY) because there are some stellar vendors at this location. (Actually, 5 stars for the vendors, negative 100 for the employees who work here). I actually wish the vendors would find another location to sell and leave these people as they were, I think everyone (employees especially) would be happier if this occurred too. Oh, my favorite part, almost forgot. After you buy a delicate antique, they'll gladly throw it in a bag for you like it's a piece of hot garbage they can't wait to stop touching. Icing on the cake. EDIT:: I have to add this as a Mr. Frank replied to another customer's comment about the horrible customer service here. No, Frank, I am not wrong. I have been in multiple times and bought many things, and more than once I asked for a price of a piece that had no price tag on it and the guy at the front desk put it back on the floor. I asked why he couldn't hold it for me and he said "If it has no price on it it won't sell out on the floor." I received no call back and the pieces I wanted had sold when next I went in. You have no idea what's going on in your store if this is news to you. This is my actual experience here, among other unpleasantness, and it's not up to you to tell me I'm wrong about what I've actually experienced with your employees. read more

They have a ton of items but everything was ridiculously overpriced. There were so many items that you could get at consignment stores in Fallbrook or regular furniture stores for way cheaper. I even saw items you could find at Ross for cheaper! Don't waste your time. This place is a total ripoff. read more

I don't get it... why would I want to buy used or seriously out of date furniture at higher-than-new prices? I didn't understand the business model and didn't find a single thing that I was interested in. How can people say the prices are good? They are higher than most new furniture stores. We went there on July 7, 2018. What a cool place! I could stay there all day and walk up and down the aisles if my husband wasn't with me. Maybe I will go there another time without him so I can take my time. Anyway, I purchased a pillow that is really unusual and pretty. Its now on our bed and I love it! This place is phenomenal. it is a large warehouse-sized retail space full of items of every description, from small household items to clothing, furniture, artwork and more. There is something here for everyone, from lowbrow to highbrow, penny pincher to moneybags. I have also had the opportunity to unload some of my own fabulous "junque" here, and the process was made as pleasant and seamless as possible by Juan and the rest of the staff. Whether purchasing or selling, I find Consignment Classics to be the sort of humongous one-stop shop that I just cannot get enough of. The 4 star rating is for the antique and consignment section ONLY. Broad selection of antiques, vintage, decorative items, and yard sale finds. No find antiques but still interesting things. Very reasonable pricing. I'm from the Richmond VA and the prices are below what I would pay at home. I bought an antique converted oil lamp. Had to leave the glass shade there because I didn't think the glass would make it home and it was hideous. We also got a few small items. Now, for the furniture section. This is definitely starter furniture which is completely acceptable. My problem is with the sales people telling a customer that it was "100% bonded leather and will last for years". Bonded leather doesn't last but that's why it's cheap. Just be honest with the customer. The fabric sofa they were also looking at would have been more durable. I was there with a friend who is looking for stuff to furnish her daughter's apartment. Mixing the starter furniture with a few vintage pieces and adding some reasonably priced decorative pieces, you can stay within budget. BTW, I visited both the Kurtz and Hancock locations and both are good. Staff at both locations very helpful and friendly. read more

I will NEVER give my furniture to Consignment Classics to sell. They are NOT honest or straightforward in their transactions. Be VERY CAREFUL in dealing with this business. You will have to chase and follow-up to get your payment from them. I brought some rugs in after calling in the morning and driving 30 minutes to bring some Persian rugs. The guy there at intake was grumpy and rude and rejected them saying a "rat might have died in them" which was horribly untrue and not very kind. Absolutely never setting foot in this place again. I used to be here multiple times a week shopping but have stayed home during the last year, finally decided to return since cases in the area have dipped so low and despite the sign out front talking about requiring masks, multiple employees and vendors here do not wear masks. Not the silver haired guy at the counter who had it under his nose, not the old guy with the row of fake teeth chewing a toothpick with the mask under his chin coughing up a lung right at the front counter you have to walk by to enter, not the customer browsing without a mask even in sight, nor the booth owner who had one of my favorite booths who I saw in there and was walking over to approach them and tell them how much I love what they curate only to see that her mask was under her chin. This is garbage, no matter what your 'special' case may be, you're putting people at risk and it's a local requirement you wear masks. Was hoping to returning to finding treasures here regularly again but I hope you've not missed my business this past year because it's not ever coming back. read more

I used to love this spot until my most recent experience. I decided to go peruse the store with the hour I had to spare because this is the closest thing to a museum I have at my expenditure, I wasn't particularly looking to purchase anything but I thought looking at clown figurines would give me a boost of serotonin. Almost immediately upon entry, I was asked to have my purse held up front because it was "store policy"--that had never happened to me before. I didn't think I particularly gave off any weird vibes. Sure, I had my headphones in but that's only because I have extreme ADHD and anxiety. My search shifted from quirky tchotchkes to whether or not other customers had their bags on them. They did. I've worked in retail so I know the drill: I was being profiled as a potential shoplifter. Definitely didn't buy anything--all for the better since I'm in extreme debt. This is by far the best place in San Diego to find unique vintage items! I've been here several times and they always have something for everyone from vintage clothes & accessories to home decor. I went in looking for two table bases with a bit of patina and looked all over the store but couldn't find what I was looking for. On my way out, I showed a staff member a photo of what I was aiming for and he mentioned that he had something that might work. Frank showed me two fantastic vintage cast iron table bases that would work perfectly and I gladly took them home without a second thought! Thank you Frank for making my day!! This is a great Antique and Collectibles shoppers dream..everything you can imagine is in this 40,000 sq. ft. warehouse...this was just a furniture store, but because the Ocean Beach Mall closed many dealers now make this their home base. This is one the most incredible places in San Diego! In a day and age of online shopping and box stores, this place is a gem inside a warehouse on Kurtz St. There are a hundred or so vendors with styles trans versing present and back decades, centuries, even millenia! The vendors and staff are welcoming and helpful, many vendors leave their contact info if you have questions, and if you get a chance to meet the owners you will be blessed. Large selection but beware. I placed a relatively valuable vase on consignment, surprised it hadn't sold, I went in to pick it up a week prior to my contract expiration. I showed my receipt and was directed to the area of the store where it most likely was on display. During my search the helpful lady who was assisting me approached me with some bad news. My vase had been broken and there was nothing they could do for me. I asked if I could see the pieces but they were long gone. Hmmm! Lot's of unanswerable questions. I'm not accusing them of anything but would have greatly appreciated at least a notification of the breakage and an opportunity to at least see the broken item. Do they not know about the Pottery Barn rule? "You break it you own it." Was the person who broke it not held responsible or did they have to pay for it? Could something else have happened to it? (Use your imagination here) I'm really upset that I was not notified and would strongly suggest their policy be updated to include at the very least a courtesy notification and explanation. read more

This place is weak. It's in a crappy, industrial part of town near the swap meet. There's big signs outside saying that they sell wholesale and that there's consignment stuff, so naturally you think you're going to get good deals in there. In reality, most of the stuff in there is new, so you're not getting cheap deals on consignment, and the prices on the new stuff are just pretty much average. If you're prepared to pay average prices, go to a brand name furniture store in a nice part of town with sales people that will help you out. If you go to a legitimate furniture store and you like a couch but you don't like the color they will special order it for you in the color that you want. Or they might even have more than one color of the same item in the store. At this place all they have is a bunch of random, average stuff. You might get lucky and find what you want. I actually saw a few things in there that I thought were nice and were reasonably priced. But with so many furniture stores out there competing for your business there is no reason to visit this one. read more

They have three locations, and we frequent the two local San Diego haunts. We love love love this store. I have always been impressed that they keep the stores neat and clean.
