The main floor has a huge selection of jewellery from various eras, bags, shoes, accessories, and vintage clothing, along with some knick knacks. Upstairs, there's more clothes, including a small children's section, some more contemporary pieces, jeans, housewares and records. The standouts are the shoes and jewellery. There were some amazing shoes including doc martens with flowers and artichocke moschino heels -- if only they were my size! The jewellery selection includes a large selection of screw back and clip on earrings, regular earrings and brooches among necklaces, bracelets, etc. Some very cool and unique pieces. The prices are super fair and the owner curates the whole store and is fun to chat with. Very knowledgeable about styles from different periods! The staff here is really friendly and will help you with suggestions if you are looking for something specific. I was shopping for earrings for my sister and everyone here helped me find the perfect gift. Everything on the ground level has tags that indicated the decade the item dated to. The second floor did not always have this, just because a lot of the items were obviously contemporary so it was not so necessary e.g. a sweater from Zara. This store is a hidden gem!

However, after considerable research, including encountering, for example, exorbitant "cleaning fees" and other unfriendly contract terms at other stores, my search confirmed what I had really known all along: Dragon & Phoenix is a warm and friendly place full of warm and friendly people - people who want your side of the consignment relationship to be as rewarding as theirs. Some items are reasonably priced and worth the purchase, but there are times when the prices are exceptionally high for what they offer. For example, I recently came across a pair of Chanel sneakers circa 2014 priced at $750, (it did not come with a shoebox). However, upon further research, I found the same shoes on a well known preloved boutique for CAD$325 (same color, same size and it came with a box and individual shoe bags), and the condition was better to what Mine and Yours offered. I understand the store incur additional overhead costs, such as rent, utilities, and staff wages, which can influence pricing, but it should allow them to be more competitive esp if customers are always looking at phones now and doing strategic price comparison. Of course, I will continue to shop and browse and like coming here, the sales associates are nice and welcoming. While the store has its charm and unique finds, the pricing strategy needs to be revisited by management especially when comparable items are available elsewhere at significantly lower prices.

To my surprise, I found a Smart Set dress that was in an exceptional condition (SS was one of my fave stores that was discontinued). It fit like a glove and even better it was prized at $4! What a steal! This thrift store was a bit far off from downtown Langley but was worth the drive out. What an amazing evening! In fact, it was one of the best comedy events I've ever had the pleasure of attending. The evening's title was perfectly chosen: Grief n' Giggles - Coffin Up Comedy. If that name alone doesn't make you smile, the performers certainly will. Perhaps the most unexpected part of the evening was the venue itself: Victory Memorial Park Funeral Centre. Having only lived in White Rock for a short time, I had no idea this beautiful facility even existed. And before you let the words "funeral home" scare you off, don't. It's a stunning property with peaceful grounds that are perfect for a nature walk. Not exactly the first place that comes to mind when someone says, "Want to get some fresh air?" but maybe it should be. The brochure featured the tagline: "They say laughter is the best medicine, so we're throwing an event all about healing with humour -- no prescription required." Judging by the roughly 300 people in attendance, I'd say the prescription was filled. The evening was expertly hosted by Cliff Prang, who didn't miss a beat. OMG, he was hilarious. Melanie Rose and Vanessa Woznow rounded out the comedy roster, and together they delivered a night of laughter that had the audience roaring. You know how it is when you walk into a venue you've never been to before. There's the cautious step through the doorway, followed by the obligatory scan of the room to make sure you haven't accidentally wandered into the wrong event. In my case, I was greeted by no fewer than five different people: one welcomed me, two signed me in, one escorted me to the elevator, and finally there was the handsome gentleman whose sole duty appeared to be pressing the elevator button. I've never felt so important in my life. Once on the second floor, I discovered an entire reception area dedicated to mingling, complete with beautifully arranged buffet tables offering complimentary food and beverages. This came as a complete surprise since admission was by donation only. I had come prepared for comedy, not hors d'oeuvres. Needless to say, I adapted quickly. Later, the same elevator gentleman took the time to point out a beautifully handcrafted horse-drawn coffin carriage dating back to the 1890s. It was an extraordinary piece of craftsmanship and a fascinating glimpse into local history. Stunning woodwork and well worth a look. A special shout-out goes to two lovely ladies, Jeanette and Rosetta, whom I met while enthusiastically sampling the buffet. Rosetta is a vivacious volunteer at the Peace Arch Hospice Society Thrift Store, which apparently provides significant funding for the Society's programs. Another shout-out goes to the lady seated beside me, whose infectious laugh kept me laughing throughout the show. Sometimes laughter is contagious in the very best way. Finally, a heartfelt thank you to all the volunteers and organizers who helped make this first-class event possible. From the warm welcome to the delicious refreshments and the outstanding comedy, everything was thoughtfully planned and beautifully executed. If this was my first Peace Arch Hospice Society event, it certainly won't be my last.
