They are the best cleaning service I've ever used. Ugh, and I've been through several. Seriously, Hillary aims to please. When I first met with her about having our house cleaned, she was insistent I call if anything was ever missed after they cleaned. She even said she would come back herself and make sure it was done to my satisfaction that very day should I notice something after they'd gone. Obviously, a very serious sense of professionalism. But please, God. Never let me be the kind of person who needs to call someone and make them come back to pick up a lone piece of popcorn left unswept under the darkest corner of our kitchen stove, especially after a long day of cleaning other people's houses. It's just not right. I do, however, feel comfortable either sending a quick e-mail or telling Hillary and/or Sarah if something was missed the next time I see them. Always, whatever minor chore I point out is promptly addressed without attitude or repeated reminders. I think it took only two cleanings for them and their lovely crew to have the details and routine of cleaning our house down pat. It's an old house with lots of corners, shelves, wood floors and dust (oh, and two teenagers!), so to have it mastered in such a short time was a feat I admired and still appreciate. Now I just look forward to them coming every week. The house feels great when they're there (trustworthy mujeres with good, energetic vibes!) and it feels, looks and smells clean and orderly by the time they leave. It's also nice that they show up with all their gear and cleaning products, too. Everything they use to clean is gentle, green and natural, which I prefer. I can be sensitive to smells, so it's a relief to come home and not have to open every window just to air the place out because some lazy, probably crazy person I just paid a lot of hard-earned cash to clean our house has sprayed a half can of Febreze all over our sofas, sinks and walls. Hillary and Sarah would never, never do that. Ever. That alone just makes me love them even more. read more

Great find. I finally decided to give up pretending to clean my house and just pay a professional to do it properly. Best price, low-fume philosophy, and local ownership were the reasons that I picked this service to try. 4 months in, I'm a happy customer. To expand: I'm alarmed by the idea of "clean" smelling like "cleaning products." So that eliminated the most traditional cleaning services, whose customer reviews seemed to be praising the smell of bleach & perfume. I called several "green" outfits, and the price quotes were about 15-20% higher than what Hillary offered me. Not trivially, having read "Nickeled and Dimed" I felt pretty uncomfortable with the idea of paying this money to a corporate entity that would just trickle-down the smallest possible amount the to disempowered women who actually do the cleaning. I believe that one of Hillary's genuine goals is creating good jobs, and I'm happy to be a part of that. The relationship I have with this company just feels like the benefit of a free trade economy (I'll get a job doing what I'm good at, and use part of the proceeds to hire you to do what you're good at) rather than any kind of exploitation or upstairs-downstairs thing. The cleaning is totally satisfactory. It's true that fixtures come out whiter if you use bleach, but that's not what I signed up for. Another benefit of the "localness" of this business is that I feel really comfortable with Hillary and her employees handling our stuff - if there are any mishaps I feel confident that I"ll be talking to the right person immediately, without runarounds. read more

I highly recommend Conscious Cleaning, and frankly I'm shocked by this 1-star review on Yelp. Not my experience AT ALL--so I feel obligated to sign up on Yelp and to offer my own opinion. I learned about Conscious Cleaning from a friend who continues to have a good experience with the company, and I have now had regular cleanings at my house for almost four months. Early on, the ladies in charge of the company were always quick to respond if my (admittedly high) expectations were not met in any way--and now they seem to have my house down to an science. I live in a four bedroom, two story house, and I have three wild young children (haha), so as you can imagine, there's a lot to clean up! Conscious Cleaning comes bimonthly, and they always do an excellent job. I've recommended Conscious Cleaning to several friends--and in a town like Chapel Hill, where more people than average are concerned about the state of our environment, I think Conscious Cleaning is a great option (they use all-natural cleaning products). I've employed several cleaning services in the past, and Conscious Cleaning is by far the most consistently satisfying company I've used. They certainly deserve a higher than 1-star rating on Yelp! read more

I have used a variety of cleaning services over a 25 year period, and I can report with enthusiasm that Conscious Cleaning is the best cleaning service I have ever used. Not only is my home absolutely spotless when they are finished, but they provide personal touches that make my home more comfortable. I am allergic to many of the ingredients commonly found in household cleaners, making house cleaning very uncomfortable for me. The natural products used by Conscious Cleaning do not aggravate my allergies at all, allowing me to truly enjoy my clean home. Hilary and her staff are extremely professional and pleasant to work with. Hilary is very open to scheduling additional cleaning as needed (prior to special events, etc.). Compared to the cleaning services I have used in the past that did not do nearly as thorough a job, Conscious Cleaning's rates are extremely reaonsable. Hillary, the owner is a delight! She came to our home personally to view and estimate the time needed. She re-confirmed, by e-mail prior to the cleaning and came here with her crew! Conscious Cleaning came over and thoroughly cleaned my unkept home. I had asked the owner Hillary to specifically clean my kitchen floor b/c we had a football pre-game party and spilled some soft drinks causing it to be sticky. The bathrooms were in need of help also, so the cleaning ladies came and I could eat off my kitchen floor if I had too and the bathrooms are sparkling clean. I have allergies and I love they use eco-friendly products which leave a pleasant, clean aroma. I highly recommend the Conscious Cleaning Service to come clean your home because they do a great job. These ladies have been cleaning for me for 6 months every two weeks. They've been thorough, consistent and friendly. They change my sheets and wipe down my front glass door at no extra charge (most companies won't touch a window without charging extra). My floors have never looked better. The owners frequently check in in person and you can tell that they are very concerned with customer satisfaction. I've actually never had a cleaning company where I was able to even meet the owner much less have them check in at my house multiple times. I'm also happy with the fact that the same two cleaners have been cleaning for me consistently for 4 months which is a definite plus. read more

Love, love, LOVE these guys! We've used a variety of cleaners in the past-corporate agencies, small companies, individuals-I was ready to give up and live amongst the dust bunnies. I love that they use green cleaning supplies and bring their own equipment. Other companies have used and broken my sweepers in the past.
