But it drove 2,580 miles to California and then to Seattle. It not only drove 2,580 miles, but it did so towing almost a 4,000 lb trailer. DO NOT GIVE THESE GUYS YOUR BUSINESS! I was an inch from giving up my dream of moving to the PNW because this money hungry auto repair would've caused me to sell my set up since I didn't have alot of money!

It needed a new camshaft and rockers arms on one cylinder head. Runs great now. No fault codes. They refused to partially refund the repair they did nothing. Variable valve lift and variable valve timing (cam phaser) are completely unrelated mechanical systems. It never had a cam phase fault, but that's the part they replaced. They lost a customer for life.

He set up an appointment to be here at 1pm, he finally showed up at 6pm. I was very nice to him and asked if I could watch the fix and maybe learn something. I learned one thing as he continually disappeared to his truck to be on the phone and smoke cigarettes. I assume he was watching a U tube video on how to do the job. It was clear he had no idea what he was doing. Eventually he got so frustrated with the fix he showed his true colors. He got angry and offensive. After hours we started up the car, he used his truck to jump start the car? Why would a real machinic not have a portable tool to do that? Car started and he drove away leaving the bill. Well, a couple minutes later the car died. Called him back to access what was up because he wanted $700 hundred dollar and I am in the dark at 10 o'clock with a car that still had issues. When he arrived eventually, he was on his motorcycle with only a few tools. He tested the battery and said that was the problem. The situation got heated as I asked why would you not just simply start with the testing the battery as a first step and why not read any error codes first off as well? I obviously had plenty of time earlier to get a new one. He said that he was just hired to juar replace the part??? Awful person and extremely incompetent as a so called professional. My first visit was for a basic oil change, but even that can be somewhat tricky on a European vehicle. I already had my own filter that I bought from the local Napa, which I intended have another shop use, but they weren't willing to work on my vehicle. I'm positive Hopfe could have sourced the filter themselves, though. Next time. My second experience with Hopfe was again for my BMW, the brakes this time. Everything has a sensor on my car, and the replace brakes notification popped on one day. When I called and spoke with Ken, I mentioned my change brakes notification is on, so I need the brakes changed. He scheduled me an appointment, and so I dropped the car off at the agreed upon date. When I was giving him the keys, Ken asked me for a refresher of why the car is being brought in. The exchange went a bit like the following: "I need my brakes changed." I told Ken. "You mean check the brakes." Ken replied. "No, I mean change the brakes. The thing is telling me to change the brakes." I said. "You mean check the brakes." He said again. "Ok sure, check the brakes, and we'll go from there." And, away I walked to do some errands. Phone rings a couple hours later, and it's Ken. He proceeds to tell me that not only are my brakes just fine, but they're not anywhere near needing to be replaced. It was a silly sensor that went bad. Ken and I talked for a bit when I was picking up my vehicle about how it's much easier to be honest, and that you don't stay in business for as long as he has "doing it the other way." Long story endless, I highly recommend Hopfe. You'll get an honest diagnosis, and quality work.

DO NOT BRING YOUR LIFTED JEEP TO HOPFE. - They do not like lifted Jeeps…read more I wish I knew that before going in. Ken was nice enough, but they did not even attempt to fix the 2 things I brought my Jeep in for. Loose steering & auto transmission shifting poorly. He said Lifted Jeeps always have steering problems & they won't work on that. Ok. Even though it was written down in their apt book to look at my transmission, they did not. Forgot to & wouldn't when I asked about it. "You're lucky I took you in at all". he didn't tell me that until after I was picking it up. My 1st time there, so of course I didn't know of this bias. Again, I wish I knew that before bringing my Jeep in. Waste of time. I did however spend $1k to replace inner axle seals as he advised. I like my Jeep to be in good repair. It dripped axle oil on my clean garage floor when I got it home, but only for a day. Update: Probably nothing to do with Hopfe directly, but 4 weeks after that appt my Jeep is gushing transmission fluid when I started it up today. It's been parked 100% in my garage for 2 weeks. Less then 11 miles driven since I asked them to look at the transmission. I was right to seek a repair before something worse happened. Just too bad they didn't.

I had a very disappointing experience with Aspen Auto Clinic…read more My wife took our Toyota 4Runner in to have a leaking rear axle seal repaired. Because the axle seal had leaked gear oil onto the rear brakes, the brake pads needed to be replaced as well. We expected to pay for the additional parts and reasonable labor, but the estimate we received was completely unreasonable. They quoted nearly $1,600 just to replace the rear brake pads and parking brake shoes. What made this especially frustrating was how the labor was billed. To replace the parking brake shoes, the rear brake components have to be removed anyway. More importantly, they already had the axle removed to replace the axle seal, which requires disassembling those same components. In other words, much of the labor overlapped. Instead of charging for the incremental labor required to install new brake components while everything was already apart, they attempted to bill essentially full labor for the rear brakes, full labor for the parking brake shoes, and the axle seal repair as if each job were being done independently. That doesn't seem fair or honest. I understand that quality work isn't cheap, and I'm happy to pay for skilled labor. What I don't appreciate is being charged multiple times for the same disassembly and reassembly. Based on this experience, I can't recommend Aspen Auto Clinic and would encourage others to get a second opinion before approving major repairs.
