An outstanding old theater. Saw come from away- the play about 9/11 and newfound land. Based on a true story. Had row 3 seats. Quite surprised the leg room was decent. Fun place and smartly they open up all the exits after the show.,making for quick exit !

The seats are smaller than other theaters . Less leg room also. I would say this is an outdated theater. There are a lot better out. However the staff was very happy to help you.

We were in town and able to grab 3 tickets last minute to the Wiz show. The show was absolutely amazing. We found parking on the street to avoid the $30+ parking fee. Everyone is always congregating on the first floor of these type of shows but the second floor has the same bar, bathroom, and snack shop that you can go to to avoid that busy traffic on the first floor. Our view was decent from our Mezzanine section. Tickets were priced at $ 65.00 a piece. Photography or video is not permitted while the show was live. The only complaint we had was the leg room in our seats. It was just a bit tighter than we would like. The restless little kid occasionally kicking our seats behind us was a reminder of how tight it was. Other than that, the flow through security and plenty of assistants working made it easy to navigate this venue. We had a great time and we were really pleased with the show. Highly recommended.

Came here to see Eddie Izzard a few weeks ago and had a wonderful experience. The hilarious and amazing show notwithstanding, the theatre itself is stunning. I had a great time before the show and during intermission staring at the elegant details and artwork within. The lobby is spacious and welcoming. The seats are comfortable. Sometimes older theatres have tiny seats but these were a-ok. I can't speak to the sound for a musical but for a comedy show it was great. We had main floor seats on stage right and the view was excellent!

This is a beautiful theatre in Cleveland's Playhouse Square. It is full of a very rich history. The main lobby is stunning with beautiful chandeliers. You can access a few other theatres from a hallway inside this theatre so during winter, it helps not having to go outside. Bin 216 is a restaurant that is also accessible from this inside hallway. I visited this theatre for the first time on Saturday, December 1st when I got a free ticket to the Broadway show "CHICAGO". I've actually seen Chicago before on Broadway when I lived in the city of Chicago. The Cleveland show was an amazing show with one intermission. The entire show lasted for about 2.5 hours. Eddie George, a former college football player at The Ohio State University and also the 1995 Heisman Trophy winner who later went on to play in the NFL, acted outstanding. I knew that was him when he first came on stage. I had no idea he does Broadway shows so it was so cool to see him perform on stage. Many top-notch actors are brought on this stage to showcase their amazing talents and there is a variety of shows you can catch at Connor Palace. I recommend seeing a show here. Dress up and make it a fun evening. The bathroom lines are long but they move rather quickly since there is a staff person inside that manages the line. You can buy drinks here but I saw long line for that too. I don't drink alcohol and just wanted a cup of water. I was given water without standing in line so I appreciated that. The SEATS may be tight but I was lucky to get a seat in a section that had a little bit more leg room. FUN FACT -- Chris and Sara Connor of Hunting Valley, Ohio made a $9 million dollar gift to the Playhouse Square capital fundraising campaign. This was the largest gift received from a family in Playhouse Square's history so this palace is named after them. *** - This is my 189th total Yelp review. - I have written 143 Yelp reviews in 2018

This theatre is so beautiful and is well taken care of. There are bars and food kiosks all over and a fair amount of restrooms. The A/C is set very low, so bring a jacket or you will be cold. All the volunteers who help you to your seats are very friendly and helpful. The only reason I gave it 4 stars is because of the seats. I have to guess they are the original seats because they are small. I am a small person so it doesn't bother me except that when a large person sits next to me, they are honing in on my space. The material is that crushed velvet stuff that is uncomfortable. I know they want to maintain the integrity of the old theatre, but these seats really need updated.

Love this place! I didn't go to a lot of theaters but this one is really pretty. We went to see Anastasia last night and it was just magical. The place and people is nice. The service was well organized so you don't realize you have over 2,000 people in the room at the same time. The seats are pretty tight together compare to other places I have been to. The description of the location of the seat is also confusing on the website. But really great experience!

Saw this play: Come from away

Connor was packed for the show "Come from Away" on its last night in town. This was best show I've seen in long time. Based on true story of a little town in Newfoundland that was suddenly inundated with 7000 people on dozens of diverted flights on tragic 9/11. The amazing circumstances of that day created the most unthinkable scenarios which brought out the best of humanity in the face of the worst mankind can dish out! With only a cast of 12 playing multiple roles, the play reveals the impact the town endured and the legacy the visitors left behind. Cleverly laid out with seamless transition plus no intermission, the flow is non-stop bringing high & lows in a dramatic roller coaster. This was the first musical that didn't seem like a "musical" ..which I appreciated! The sound team was amazing and got a huge ovation at the end. By far the loudest & longest applause I've ever seen. Can't wait to see the movie that's supposed to be made too. Also the staff there is exceptionally polite & friendly.

This was my first opportunity to see a show in this theater. There's actually two entrances to it. You can go through Playhouse Square's main entrance and head right or you can enter through their own front entrance. The architecture in both the lobby area and theater are both stunning. As new series subscribers we had seats near the front off to the far right. Friendly "red coats" helped us to our seats after we picked up our programs in the the lobby. This theater is not a big as the Keybank State theater I had been to earlier this summer but it does have a wider stage. The seats are covered in red velvet but I found them to be a bit stiff for me to sit in. I really felt bad because we had in our row a lady in a wheelchair who sat further in from us. I learned that they stow the wheelchair and bring it back when the show is over. I only wish they had "spaces" in the theaters for people with these types of needs. The restrooms are located in the basement unless you have special needs. We were here to see "Hello Dolly" with Tony awarding winner Betty Buckley in the title role. This production I had seen about a year and half ago at the Shubert theater in NY and I reviewed it separately. The show was outstanding as when I saw it in previews in NY. Betty's voice mimicked Bette Midler yet had the distinctive quality of her own style as I had known her in Cats. I was not familiar with the other cast members but the actor playing Cornelius was spot on for Gavin Creel. The actor playing Barnaby was an outstanding dancer. A special nod to the actor playing Horace Vandergelder for his own take on the restoration of the add on song "Penny in my pocket." Basically as I tell people-go for the show regardless of the cast-That's truly what makes it a great performance. When the show was over we were pleasantly surprised to be let out by a door near where we had sat by another "red coat." I love the convenience this offers so that you are not waiting a long time to leave the theater and get on your way. Most of our upcoming shows in our series will be in this theater. We had purchased a parking pass with our subscription and we love the fact that although it is a long passageway, the majority of the theaters in Playhouse Square connect to this garage. Please note that there is construction going on across from the Connor Palace theater since they are building a new high rise. Outdoor public parking lots are nearby and available if nothing else is going on in the downtown area.

Wow. Let me first say that I've never seen so many kind and personable ushers in one theater before. We went to see Les Miserables today. The show was amazing- and it was great to see it in such a beautiful setting. I really enjoy the way this theater is organized. It makes it simple to find your seat. They also have multiple concessions stands and it never seemed like the wait for anything was too long. This is a beautiful place to see a show. I can't wait to return!

I cannot gush enough about our theater district here in Cleveland. The love and energy that went into restoring our theaters is most certainly appreciated--and you know this by the million plus people that flock to Playhouse Square each year. The Connor Palace Theater is a bright gem nestled within that group. I love the French Imperial style and the crystal chandeliers. The ornate décor on the walls, marble staircases and lush red patterned carpet add something very special to this beautiful venue. If you look carefully, you will notice that the stage is framed with old piano keys and the innards of ivories passed. I was most recently there to see Into The Woods. I hadn't seen it on stage in over ten years and this troupe certainly didn't disappoint. What a magical, funny, sort of dark story told in front of a really fun songbook. ("Rooting through my rutabagas!") The construction of the stage and spot-on acoustics made it very easy to enjoy the show. We were lucky enough to obtain loge seating, so we were in a very comfy chair in an upper wing. (level 9, I believe). I liked that we had servers...but ours came by as we were sitting down (about 15 minutes prior to the show) and we hadn't looked at the menu yet. She said she'd be right back but never returned and we weren't able to get service! The bathroom lines were very long at intermission and after the show. Not sure if we would have even made it back by intermission. Another restroom would be very helpful. Concession lines were also very long and quite confusing (lines running into eachother, no formation). Some logisticals could be tightened up, but it is overall a wonderful experience. The staff was friendly and helpful. Redcoats throughout the entire building to guide you in the right direction. Show your support for the arts and visit a theater soon! Make sure you grab dinner or drinks in a nearby hot spot, then enjoy the sparkle of the outdoor chandelier! You won't be disappointed.

It is owned by the Northwest Neighborhoods CDC and operated by Cleveland Cinemas, which also operates other renovated movie theaters in the Cleveland area. The theater has three screening rooms, and so it's usually showing a rotation of three different films at a time. Sometimes they are new release blockbusters, sometimes they are new indie films, and other times they are old school films put on for a special event (like the screening of White Christmas I saw this past December). Compared to other larger movie theater complexes, Capitol Theatre is both more cozy and more affordable. On Mondays you can get tickets for $6, there are matinee prices for shows before 6 PM, and the highest ticket price you'll pay as an adult is $11.75 (compared to, for example, my Valley View Cinemark which is $13.50). Like other movie theaters, they have very comfortable reclined seating, you can order adult beverages, and the concession prices will make your eyes pop. My husband and I prioritize seeing movies here if we can - it's a gem of Cleveland and I hope it stays in operation for years to come. The people who work there are always warm and friendly, and clearly have a love of the theater.

HISTORY -- The Capitol Theatre in Gordon Square is an old cinema that turned 100 years old in 2021. It is charming inside the theatre where movies are shown with a decorative outside building sign. The upstairs where the bathrooms are (there are also bathrooms downstairs) is old and it looks like someone's living room in a house but the simple nature doesn't bother me. There are chairs upstairs where you can sit and eat some of your snacks while viewing old photos of people who were involved in the Capitol Theatre. SPECIAL EVENT (MOVIE MARATHON) -- Who knew a movie marathon was a thing? It sure is. I arrived on the 21st of October 2023 for the 12 hour scary movie marathon. YES, you read that write, 12 hours straight from 2pm to 2am. I wasn't going to go but I brought my friend with me and we made it a fun evening. I hadn't heard of most of the movies so the anticipation slowly built as I waited for the first movie to start. I didn't know what to expect. We both received complimentary tickets. Halfway through the movie marathon, the organizers served pizza to everyone which was included in the ticket. My favorite movie was Final Destination 2 and my least favourite were Slumber Party Massacre and Hereditary. Slumber Party was okay and somewhat funny because the antagonist or killer was hilarious; however, part of the movie was just annoying and it dragged. For Hereditary, I didn't like it because I don't like devilish or supernatural movies. I can't remember the names of the other movies, besides Cabin in the Woods, as I'm writing this review almost a month later but I posted some photos that has a partial list of the movies. FOOD -- I purchased popcorn (medium, I think) and some sweets (candy). Of course, the price was expensive but that is common at most cinemas. My friend also bought popcorn but she bought a soft drink too whereas I bought hot tea. I would love to come to another movie marathon next year, as it happens just once a year, but I don't know if I will make it because 12 hours straight is alot of time out of my schedule. I highly recommend this local movie theatre. **** - 87/150 total reviews in 2023 - 638 total overall Yelp reviews - Reviewed on 1 December 2023

I have been to this movie theater numerous times over the years, and found that it hardly changed over the years. It remains timeless. AMBIANCE: The movie theatre is spacious offering a lot of pre-movie activities. There is a sit down cafe area to start nibbling on your popcorn. There is a small arcade with claw machines, and games for solo or groups. They also usually have a display for new movies where you can take fun keepsake pictures. I found that quite a few couples and friend groups checking out the amenities before the movies. The movie theater rooms are certainly outdated considering other cinemas in the area. The recliner chairs operate slowly and appear worn. My least favorite part is the lack of row labels. The row labels are on the floor/carpet. It makes it impossible to see during dim lighting before the movie and should you need to leave during the movie. It's just simply not practical. CONCESSIONS: Concessions go above and beyond with food and movie merch. For instance, Wicked performance featured toys, souvenirs, and even pink/green popcorn. The concessions are overpriced as they are everywhere. SERVICE: The service here is very subpar. Employees mumble to customers and it's really hard to decipher what they're saying. I had this experience during initial entry and at concessions. They are very apathetic or even borderline rude. You don't feel welcome here at all, the service is pretty bad. PARKING: There is a huge parking lot at this movie theatre, larger than other. The parking lot is well lit so you feel reasonably safe. In all honesty, I won't be sprinting back to this movie theatre. I was just purchasing tickets to the next exciting movie release, this movie theatre was the last on my list. You can pick up a cannoli before or after the show. This is always a bonus for us. My only complaint is I wish The Cinematheque was located closer to my home. It is a great venue!

I love the CIA Cinematheque. I've been a member here for years and it's worth every penny of the…read morereasonable membership cost (especially compared to similar institutions in big cities). I love the art of film, and attending films here is one of my favorite things to do in Cleveland. From documentaries, to classic films, to new films or world cinema, they do it all. However, COVID has changed the world of film. Like so many of my favorite film spots, the Cinematheque has transitioned to a virtual screening room...and I love it. They are doing a beautiful job still curating excellent films available for home viewing. With such limited new films coming out, this is important! They are keeping the art of film alive! Please donate to the Cinematheque if you can or rent a film from their virtual screening room. So what's next in my queue? They have an awesome documentary on Cleveland's own Agnes Gund, which I'm renting this weekend! Support local!
