She answered all of our questions patiently and suggested what would work for us. We assumed it was not a good deal and walked away. Having visited another couple of stores nearby, we came back. She was so certain that we would come back that she had prepped some of the work beforehand. She was alone in the store and she presented herself so professionally that it was mind boggling. I am sure she is a commissioned based rep, but not even for a single second she made us feel that she was suggesting what was good for her. All her answers and suggestions were very good. UPDATED review - from 4 years ago, when I received a new iPhone 6S... I am sad to report that that…read morebeloved 6S has bitten the dust and gone to cell phone heaven - and I just noticed that my review was only 4 years old (feels like longer that I had that phone). It had a better camera than what I had seen in previous releases, and I was very very happy with it. I would have kept going with it, except it started to have issues where it was occasionally unresponsive to touch, and it started flickering on the screen; not a good sign. So, I called fido to see what they could do for me, and they recommended the iPhone XI Pro, for an extra $46 per month (on top of the already existing plan). That was a little rich for me... as much as I was sorely tempted! I really liked the 3-lens feature on this phone, but I could not justify spending the extra money. So I shopped online through the fido store, and came up with an iPhone XS, which is being phased out - but this one is 4 generations newer than the phone I have been using. The bonus was that they had only 1 left, and they were offering it at $20 per month over 2 years. So I took the plunge, money being the driving force here. The very next day (seemingly), Apple introduced the iPhone XII. Figures! Mind you, no way could I have got that phone for $20 per month... So I guess I will try this XS for the next 4 years, and I will watch what they come out with until then... I must say, transferring to a new phone is still time consuming, but way easier these days! It took all afternoon, but it is exactly what I had before. Kudos to fido!

Sometimes they have the best deals, and sometimes it's just.... meh. The clerk was helpful and cheerful, but really couldn't help us much. Best Buy has a few readers on display, but not what we were looking for. I can say that their prices on Apple products were pretty much the same as what we saw at the Apple store this week - you can get an Apple tablet the size of a reader for about $330, so I wouldn't hesitate to consider an option here and it might just beat having to go to Bayshore (where I hate the parking!) What I found odd about our visit was the lack of clientelle! It was dead quiet in there, and we had the place almost to ourselves! So the staff was attentive. No problem there! We are looking at alternatives for potentially replacing a Kobo Arc. Too bad, too, because that Arc got a LOT of use! It's the best reader we have ever seen (we really lucked in with it), but I think in the long run readers are getting hard competition from tablets, which you can read on but you can also do other stuff. And therein lies the problem: this Kobo was a pioneer among readers in that you could download other apps, like Kindle, email and Google - even chat through Google hangouts while in Wifi! Tres cool. The newer Kobos stick to being readers and have less options. So, we have been searching around to compare, and Kobo does not even make the Arc any more! That is SOoooo too bad! But our experience with this one is disappointing in a way, because it's only just over 2 years old and it just crapped out - it died. Unfortunately, Kobo help (live people) were not a huge support, suggesting a couple of things to try (to no avail), or a discount on replacement! So we are looking for a work around. We did try dropping it off at a repair shop. The technician tried plugging it in and it seems to be working now. Maybe our charging plug has bit the biscuit? In any event, I hope it will revive. It would be nice to get a couple more years of use out of it before purchasing a tablet. Yes - a tablet! That would be the alternative, because once you have all these gadgets, you are hooked!

It's generally quite busy at this location, but I tend to go earlier in the day so I can avoid peak time and get a parking spot as well. Mainly wanted to highlight the food this time around. I finally got to try the smoked meat sandwich (which is only $7.99. Smoked meat sandwiches are available at most Canadian Costcos, but Ottawa locations were one of the first to get them besides in Quebec. Their smoked meat was sliced well and you can see outer crust which is called the bark. It's made with a mix of dry rub spices. Served on ciabatta style roll and accompanied with a large pickle. Make sure to add mustard into your sandwich too before taking a bite. I love how tender the smoked meat is and the pickle cuts through all the denseness. The ciabatta-style bread is soft and makes for a good vessel for the whole thing. We also ordered the poutine which is another staple Canadian item. Lots of cheese, lots of gravy and I love how crispy the fries are. The cheese was not fully melted, so you have to wait a bit for it to melt to do a few cheese pulls. Can't really go wrong with a classic poutine! I like the food court since they are pretty fast with their food orders. Not a lot of seating, but people don't eat for long periods of time. They also have some standing tables too.
