The Congo Bar is a crazy place no doubt. It is a standalone bar and tight (literally) dance place. It is loosely related to Congo Bongo and also used by promoters as a starting line leading up to showtime at Congo Bongo. Outrageous lighting, falling balloons, super loud music, buckets of beers, cheap alcoholic drinks, loud MC yelling, and dancing girls on small stages rounds out the Congo Bar. You will also have the typical opportunity to buy jello shots, roses, and photographs of you and yours; pretty standard at these types of places in Mexico. The Congo Bar is a fun place, and almost every crowd I have seen there has been friendly. Everyone just wants to have fun. On only one occasion did I see a drunk out of control, and the security quickly dealt with it. Speaking of security, the bouncers are very good keeping an eye on who's coming in and going out. They seem to do a good job searching folks on the way in and making sure people don't get too out of control. One of the officers, Alexander, is awesome. He always greets us and hangs out nearby while we visit. We don't stay very long, but it's still a fun place to visit. read more

Came here on a Saturday night around midnight. It was a process to get it. Had to find one of the hosts on the street who you have to bargain with for a price to get in. They say it's all you can drink but this was the most crowded club I've ever been to. They overpacked the place so so much. There was constant pushing and shoving. It didn't stop. Had so many drinks spilled on me. The floor was literally black with mud, dirt, and drinks, they had people coming around to mop the floors. It was insane. We spent an hour just trying to get drinks at the bar and they were not even strong. The music was ok. Mostly hip hop. It finally got less crowded at 2am but the place closed at 3am and it was a very rough place. Absolutely zero room to move and dance. One of the worst club experiences. Only good thing is it's open air so it didn't get too stuffy or hot. read more

You don't need to spend $100 inside cramped room... I had great time Be it daddy's, coco bongo, Mandela, the city, every big-name club gets overcrowded. Congo bar is no exception, but its open, it's not suffocated. That too in $30 USD and we were in, no lengthy line, no hassle. Party songs were grooving, 3-4 dances were at top counter dancing. This whole road was full of nightclub, beats, the bass sound coming from disco ll make you dance. While dancing you can have the view of other nightclubs. Their staff sometimes push who were there for a long time, but we had our drinks, enjoyed for an hour, danced like anything and then went to our hotel. Best $30 spend in the disco. read more

They played really good music and everything The staffs were super nice and the waiter man for our booth was super cool and attentive There was security all around our booth making sure all of us gals were safe and when the streets got dangerous they flagged us and got us all into a cab and took us back to our hotel safe and sound Great bar! Another place I never visited in Cancun we meet some people & they we're heading here so we figured why not give it a try. Another open air club, small not a lot of room to move around more or less even dance crazy hot inside w tons of people on top of each other what a pain in the neck. We got regular bands for $30 & ended up upgrading to the VIP area well .. at least here we were not being squished like below still not very comfy since there is zero to no extra room to dance pretty annoying. Here we stuck to beer & water not bad beer wasn't as cold but whatever it did the trick. Fun décor w the palm trees, stages for dancing they get crazy w throwing confetti & balloons pretty fun. Decent music playing over all good variety from hip hop to house & reggaeton. The guy that plays the bongos was cool, great rhythm. I came here with other travelers from my hostel. For $30 cover charge, we hung out at a VIP area and got unlimited drinks. For someone like me who does not care for drinks, I didn't care much for it. But my fellow party mates took full advantage of the deal. The people I came with definitely had fun running back and forth to the bar. The music was good, but the hype man sucked! Because one girl was twerking all night, all he did all night was talk about her. He actually told the crowd to STOP dancing to watch the girl twerk! WTF! I did not pay $30 to watch some chick twerk! I can do that for free at home watching youtube videos. As a hype man, he should be encouraging people to dance, because there were barely any dancing happening at Congo. I really LOVED this place! I came to celebrate my birthday here and they made it really special.! Our server Gerardo was AMAZING the entire staff made you feel safe. Restrooms were clean with service. I can't find one negative thing to say honestly the BEST club on the strip. Great place with a reasonable price seriously stop by you won't be disappointed! My favorite place to go whenever I'm in Cancun (which is a lot.) the music is fun, the staff are fun and friendly, warm and welcoming. They make sure you feel safe and encourage you to let your inhibitions go and just enjoy yourself! It's an open air bar so expect to be hottt! It is the tropics after all. And the dancers are gorgeous. It's a tightly run place with great MCs. There are a lot of places around it too, some with live music, some with DJs, so you can check out other fun spots too. But, IMO nothing beats Congo. No frills, laid back, clean, cool bathrooms. And my personal favorite draw - Lucero, world's most fun, funny, sweet, caring waitress. They are all great and attentive there. I highly recommend checking it out the next time you're in Cancun! read more

I was visiting Cancún with some girlfriends in November. We stopped by to check out Congo and we had mixed feelings about the place. It cost $60 per person and that included open bar. Unfortunately, their "bar" was extremely limited. I ordered a margarita and I was given a cup with ice, tequila and squirt. I'm pretty sure that wasn't correct. Also, their MC was a big too aggressive with the females. He would bring them up on stage to dance, but refused to let a particular girlfriend go. Lastly, their security were so unprofessional. The open bar for $30 was worth it. Although there is only a limited selection of drinks , I thought it was still decent. A great concept of a party without paying a cover charge. If you don't care to really drink more than five bottles worth of liquor, then I would ignore the guys before the entrance that try to sell you an all inclusive wristband. The prices are still absolutely competitive ordering by the drink. It's completely an open patio from the inside dance floor and bar to the outside sidewalks. Consider it free entertainment for the crowd on both sides of the fence. Up beat music and gorgeous girls dancing on several different stages. Since Trip advisor doesn't want to post my review.. I know Yelp won't let me down.. On the night of August 1st, we decided to take the CunCrawl tour and this was our first stop.. I went into the restroom to be met by the bathroom attendant, a security guard and a few other jackasses that tried to sell me drugs , I declined but then after these jerks robbed me of $52 at gun point.. But that's only bc that's all I had in my wallet. Had I carried all my vacation cash it would have been devastating.. Concerned with my safety, we left the club and sure enough I see the same security guy outside the club acting like nothing happened once I walked by him.. If these guys didn't have a gun I would have knocked out a few... Do NOT visit this place , and if you do , don't go to the bathroom bc I'm sure these guys do it often... It was my 3rd time in Cancun and this is the first time this has ever happened to me.. I'm never going back to the club zone.. Beware people.. I had a blast here!!!! We payed $30/pp for an open bar. No line to get inside. It is really packed so be ready to hold onto your drink for dear life. Lol the drinks were super strong and the bartenders knew exactly what we wanted every time we came back to the bar. No lines for the bathroom. I got a table and although my server wasn't the fastest (There's a lot of people ) he did bring 8 drinks at a time to make up for it so no complaints(my group was only 2 people). I prefer places with dance floors but at the end of the night or didn't matter I met some new friends and we danced on the ledge. Oh also if your impatient go to the bar yourself. THE ONLY REAL PROBLEM I HAD is when my brother went to the restroom alone he came out shook because the drug dealers were trying to pressure him to make him buy cocían. I know the drugs are all over cancun and I don't really mind the sellers asking but that's it if I say no back off. Anyway still recommend this place just use cation go to the restroom with someone. This is the place I pictured whenever I think about Cancun spring break culture and it did not disappoint. To be fair, i have been club person. I prefer dive bars, shows, and chill nights out with friends. Not grinding into small spaces with 18 year olds who travel to Mexico because of the lower drinking age. We paid an overpriced cover for a place that we could not stand to be at for more than an hour and a half. We each had five drinks with tasted strong, but nary a one of my party had a buzz by the time we decided to cut our losses--despite having five drinks each in 1.5 hours. The music they played was fun and I liked the hype-man. I also thought the go-go dancers were cool until I realized an entire line of creeping men were on the street staring at them. Save your money--you can find drinks elsewhere for $5 a pop and save yourself the heartache of maneuvering the clouds of cologne and perfume that fog the air and perhaps be able to have a conversation with the other people in your group. Going out every night in Cancun can get pretty expensive so if you're looking for a cheaper option one night, this place suffices. We went to this bar, at the beginning everything was nice, until two guys (servers) with black shirts told us to leave the table that we were using it to give it to some other people. First thing that came to my head corruption. The servers with black shirts were so rude as well as the DJ, I have had a really bad experience in Cancun. I think they are only used to see Mexicans working, and wheb they see Mexicans as tourists they are so rude to them. By the way they took away the chair that a pregnant woman was using it looked more like discrimination. Will never go back to Congo Bar. Everyone makes some bad decisions while in Mexico, and this was ours. Walking around the Tourist Zone all weekend, we passed by Congo a few times. The 3rd night, we were ready for some clubbing, and Coco Bongo line was long. We pass by Congo again and seems a bit more lively than the club next to it. We pay $25/person for all you can drink and get our wristbands and led to a tiny stand only table where the waitress asked what we want. We said a round of Don Julio. Couple of minutes pass, all of a sudden some shot girls come over blowing whistles and waving a green bottle. They start pouring a shot, then hand it to one of the guys, he takes it, they blow the whistles and twist his nipples in celebration. They pour another shot and hand it to the next guy, he takes it, makes a face as they twist his nipples and blow whistles. By now, they start asking for $5 per shot, and I laugh since we paid for all you you drink. So we hand them $10 and wave them off but they would not leave. Waitress finally gets back with tiny tiny shots, half spilt on her tray. It wasn't Don Julio but it wasn't horrible well tequila from the taste. We drink it and tell her to bring us 2 more each. She leaves and whistle hustlers are still there. They get one of the guys to take a couple more shots, I kept waving them off no matter how much they blew their whistles and waved their arms, and good thing I did. About 30 minutes later, the guys that drank those shots started feeling really sick. The bottle said it was herbal tequila, but it was a very dark purplish color. This basically ended their drinking for the night. The girls really pushed us and other tables to drink that stuff instead of walking around the dancefloor and I see why. Get the people with unlimited drinks, so you double dip and quit early. Just another hustle. read more

I had an unbelievable night here at Congo bar in cancun this month. The music, and the vibe was so much fun. But the reason why i give this a 1 star its because of the waiters who serves your drinks. First of all, they ask for tips every damn drink they give you. It could become so obnoxious throughout the night especially if you're very waisted. As we stopped tipping our server. We asked for another round of tequila shots. I observed him collect all the cups from his other tables and saw the most disgusting thing ever! He threw all the left over water from melted ice mixed beer into one cup to make a whole drink, as he kept mixing the concoction of saliva, water and beer.. It really boggled me to think hes serving a mixture of other people's saliva... And the most unbelievable thing is he tried giving my husband and I THAT drink and served it to other tables. I quickly refused and for the rest of the night, We were just getting our own drinks in front of the bartender. I just want to advice all of you to be mindful and observe. read more

Went to Congo Bar back in the summer 2015. I have been here many many times over the past 10 years and had better experiences. The music was way to loud and the drinks tasted awful. We had the all you can drink package as this was one of our stops on the party hopper to multiple clubs, Senor frogs and Coco Bongos. I think they mixed whatever they had or could find behind the bar and served it up. They know as a pre-bar club you won't be there for more than an hour than off to the next club, so who cares right? I know its the smaller pre-bar before heading to the big clubs, but come on. Our "waiter" came around once in a while, but not often. I don't know I guess for the money I would go to La Vaquita next door which has the same open air concept, better drinks, better service, better go-go dancers and definitely better music at a better volume. So disappointed as the group of guys I brought with had never been to Cancun and I vouched for this club. I just came back this past Feb. with a group of friends that had never been to Cancun and took a pass when we went out for the night. Its probably time to change the format of the club, maybe top 40 music, maybe a new name and get some better bartenders who can make a proper drink. I might give Congo another shot do to the fact it used to be a good time for years, maybe they were just off their game that night.
