Wildly mediocre food with TERRIBLE service!! We went in on a Saturday night, with the restaurant nearly empty we were hopeful we could enjoy some beers and good food. We sat at the bar and were ignored by not one, but four employees. We didn't get our drink order, but we did overhear where the bartenders were camping next weekend. At one point several bartenders wanted to take shots with their friends at the bar. We had to flag down our server everytime we needed anything. Need utensils with your food? Raise your hand. Water empty? Raise your hand. Need a bill? Wait 25 minutes while all your plates and drinks are empty. This would be a good spot for those wanting an arm workout because you will be ignored to the point of having to raise your hand for any attention. I for one will NOT be back. Well, the service could be better! I went in really quick to grab dinner to go, I waited at the bar to take my order for about 10 mins. Keep in mind it wasn't that crowded either. I would say an average amount of people were at the bar that night. After waiting 10 mins I had to walk up to the bartender and ask if I could place my order. I ordered the Conflux tacos and that took another 10-15 minutes to make (which was no problem). Got my tacos and walked back to the hotel. The tacos were really good! It was birria style and came with the dipping sauce, a side of guac, and mild sauce. Delicious. I only wish they gave me 3 instead of 2, but they were very very good. I paid $17 so I guess that's average. I wouldn't recommend eating inside as the service was very slow to even place an order. I couldn't imagine dining in. However, the food was very good! read more

Conflux Brewing was another Missoula brewery I went to and it proved to be a good experience, that much is certain. Not only didnI have a beer here I also had lunch. I was highly impressed with the beer I had as it was a kind of beer you do not see often. It was a Pre-Prohibition beer, so one with some history called Lozenbrau. It was brewed in collaboration with Ronan Brewing using a 126 year old recipe and using techniques from a brewery that dated back to that time. I felt that it was very flavorful and refreshing. It kind of had a nice, bready flavor to it. I was very impressed with it! My lunch wasn't too bad. I don't think it was for me though. I ordered the tacos and they had kind of a crusty, deep fried shell to them. It wasn't like the "fake" crispy tacos you may get at some restaurants with Mexican food fare nor was it like the more authentic kind that you can also get that is the street taco type. So all in all it wasn't quite my thing there. The guacamole that came with my dish was good but I really think there wasn't anything wrong with the food itself. I just wasn't used to the tacos and how they were made and to say that I was having an "off" day would have been an understatement. But on the beer itself, five stars for sure. read more

Here I am at Conflux Brewing which is brewery #273. SWPFTD and I are in town overnight for business. Usually she doesn't travel with me but tonight I got lucky...yes, hopefully! We had dinner nearby and walked to CB which was on our way back to our hotel. Very hip and inviting outside and inside. Of course I'm old so I don't even know what is hip now, nor am I hip enough to know that hip is not even a thing anymore. Don't tell me... Anyway, SWPFTD immediately spotted an Irish red on the board and went with that. Mummy Dust NW pale ale had a nice hop flavor to it. I often like a pale ale over an IPA and this one was good. Main Street dark lager was smooth and tasty. Offworlder Porter has a great hazelnut aroma and flavor. Last for me was the Crowned Serpent vanilla variant, an imperial stout aged in rye and whiskey barrels. This was pretty epic. I bought a bottle of this to take home as well as a crowler of the Irish Red. Strolled in on a quiet Wednesday night for some food and booze. I helped myself to the Donkey Brains Tarte Ale ($6.00 for 13 oz) and damn was it GOOOOD. Perfect blends of pineapple and coconut tea from a local company. It was absolutely delish!! Vegan options here! For grub, I bellied up to the Vegan Burger with tots ($16.00). First thing I noticed was how heavy the went on the tots. There were so many! They're wonderfully seasoned and delectably crispy! The burger is made using Beyond Burger patties. While I've had varying experiences with these burgs, I really enjoyed this! The cashew cheese (actually made in Missoula) was a bit odd at first but after a few bites my taste buds knew what to expect and I grew to like it. I wouldn't call it "cheese," more like a spread. Included in the burger in fresh arugula, tomato and pickled onions. I throughly enjoyed every bite and can say it gave me the same satisfaction of eating a burger. The others in my party had the Conflux Cheeseburger, French Dip and Beef Tacos. Only the tacos missed the mark. The were birria style but extremely salty and the consomé tasted like soy sauce? I agreed, it was weird and not very good. I loved how nearly everything seemed to be locally sourced and procured. It's a really important time to be supporting our local/small businesses. I've come here several times and the staff is always very friendly and inviting! I'm always immediately greeted even if the bartender is busy. As soon as they are available they always bring a beer and food menu over. I've had flights at the bar and sat with friends for dinner at one of the tables. Each time my experience is similar in that the staff is happy to help and always has great recommendations. If you just want a snack I recommend the Brussel Sprouts or the Poutine. If you just want something like fries you get a choice of A Basket of Tots or Fries. For Lunch I was a big fan of the French Dip (it's servered with Fries, Tots, or a House Salad) I had a side of Mac-n-Cheese with Bacon.... It was over the top but I'm not complaining! This place caught my eye off in the distance when the restaurant I was planning to dine at was closed due to covid. The upstairs patio looked very inviting, the building appears nice and new and I am always on the lookout for another brewery to check out. We wanted to dine upstairs, but apparently this was for drinks only and we were planning to have a full meal, however we still got some pretty awesome seats on an outdoor patio. I really enjoyed my Chili Nelson Poblano Ale, but found learning about Montana brewery laws to be a little strange. This was really refreshing on a summer day. I had no idea Montana had such strange brewery laws, which made it so you can only have 3 beers per day and that breweries had to close at 8pm. Per the sign out front beer is served til 755. The little piece of paper they give you to tally your beers is quite amusing. I was happy to find they had vegan options and enjoyed my vegan burger, which was better than most as it came with a local cashew cheese. So it's been about a year now. These guys are still here and still making great Beer and Food. I have tried multiple items on the menu and it has always been good. That's one thing that separates them from others is the consistency. One thing I appreciate is there food is different! If you want chain food go to a chain. They have great service and friendly people here. The decor is modern and kind of plain but I don't come for the decor, I come for the beer and food. Conflux Brewing is one of the few breweries in the center of Missoula, MT. Based on a quick look of prior reviews, I wasn't expecting much when I arrived. Normally, unless a brewery has reviews in the high 4's, it probably won't be very good. My inkling was completely false. Not only did they have one of the best beers that I've had in a long time, Donkey Brains, they also had some of the best food I've seen at a brewery. I'm not sure how anyone can have poor things to say about this place. Donkey Brains, one of the best names for a beer that I've seen, had a taste that matched the name's strength. It was a mild IPA with pineapple and tea. Normally, pineapple beers are too strong because the brewery maintains too much of the pineapple sweetness. Donkey Brains had a very dry pineapple taste, adding citrus with out sweetness. The tea worked well and made me consider how underutilized tea is for beermaking. The few tea beers that I've had have been high quality. Based on how popular coffee is as a beer ingredient, you'd think that tea would also be a successful beer ingredient, but it is not so. My wife, my wife's friend, and I all order entrees: salmon salad, BLT with salmon, and a buffalo burger. These all seem like normal brewery/bar food and they were, except that they were all successful cooked at a high level of expertise. The biggest surprise was the BLT with salmon, particularly because my wife is always searching for a quality BLT, and is always disappointed. This is probably my favorite place in Missoula!!! I'd come here back to back days if my budget allowed it (not gonna lie- definitely have). The beer is incredible and SO fun! They've got a good selection for a variety of palates. Even got me looking IPAs, which I don't normally! Of all the food I've tried here now, the one I'm CONSTANTLY craving is the roast beet salad. The pros: Our server was great and helpful. The food and drinks were pretty good. Cons: We had our toddler with us. She was well behaved, ate her food, watched her show and got up twice from the table near the end of our visit. The first time she walked over near the bar as the door is covered in stickers. The bartender called her over (she's 1.5) and said "can you do something for me? Go back to your table." The second time she got up just before we left, the bar tender came marching across the bar towards my husband saying "SIR get your daughter out of here." She glared at us the entire visit and was super rude. I've literally never encountered someone who has as as rude to a toddler. I've worked in the service industry and while kids can be disruptive, our kid was literally doing nothing wrong and we were monitoring her every move. Conflux is an incredible brewery located right in downtown Missoula, where the owners seemed to spare no expense to create a beautiful dining room that offers tasty food and beer. After entering on the corner of Pattee and Main, you walk into an incredibly well designed and decorated space with several areas containing various seating options and a gorgeous bar. Really the only oddity in the room is the graffiti-style Conflux sign above the windows looking into the brewery. It just seems out of place, but maybe there is a story behind it. The bar has a classy white stone top with no rail and a checkered tile bar face. Several thin blue bar stools with a padded seat and back support sit above an industrial, round steel footrest. Edison lights hang above the bar, while the back bar contains the taps, glass shelves, and extensive window views of the brewery. There are two outdoor patios, a small square one through the dining room, and another larger one upstairs that offers excellent downtown views. Conflux's beer selection was good with many citrus or floral beers. However, I primarily stuck with the blonde and poblano ale, a super tasty and unique beer. Their food is a fancy take on simple classics. We loved the pulled pork and burger and wished more were with us so I could have tried a bite of the meatloaf. It was tough to judge the atmosphere because of COVID, but the service was outstanding and knowledgeable. Downtown Missoula offers so many attractive restaurant/bar options. Looks can be deceiving. This place looks great from the outside, great from the inside, but reminded me of biting into a great looking apple, only to find that it's not as good as it appeared to be. The pros of this place are the atmosphere, decor, music (the music wasn't live but it was great), and the vibe. The cons were only two, but they were two good ones. The first one was discovered as soon as we sat down. The table we sat in was either put together wrong, or made wrong. When my wife sat down she bashed her knee on the table leg. How you ask? Well I'll tell ya... A normal square table has legs on the corners(4), or a single post in the center(1). Not this one, it has four legs in the middle of where your feet and legs usually sit. One leg on each side in the center where your feet should be. So to sit at it you have to perform a ninja leg choke around the leg of the table, or grind up on that leg like your aunt GInas German Shepard, that always humps your leg. She was ok, but that's not how you want to start a meal. So I was starting at 4/5 possible yelp stars for the table attacking my wife. The meal just kept getting worse unfortunately, unfortunately because I really wanted to have a good time, and I did, it just didn't work out at every possible turn for this place. Drinks, 10 beers on tap, both ones we wanted were sold out. Leaving 5 ipas a brown, a stout, and a blonde, I think. So I don't like ipas so I had three choices. Now I get that ipas are what the "real beer drinkers" like, but the two that were sold out were the lager and the guava blonde. And the crowd was young and looked like a lighter tasting beer crowd. So ya, beer bar with three options was a fail. Next the food came and this was the big low. It was awful. Not the line cooks fault though. I believe it was the menu designers fault. (Head chef/KM/GM). The food was prepared well, and I usually say add more flavor, but not here. Turn it down, all of it. We got three things, poutine, wings, and a burger with a gluten free bun (great bun), add bacon. The poutine. Poutine is a holy grail comfort food in my personal opinion. It's made with fries, beef gravy, and cheese curds. Simple and good. What I got wasn't that, it was gross. I don't call food gross much or ever, but this was. The gravy was chicken, there was so much salt in it, or on the fries that I wanted to die, and white pepper omg, then there was a Tabasco aioli I think, more spice, and when I mentioned the spice overload to the server he said there was some chimmychurry on it too. It was overloaded with salt, pepper, heat, chimmychurry? and thanksgiving turkey sauce. I wanted simple comfort food and I got a hot mess. Next the wings. Breaded, burnt breading, spicy, too spicy, salty, too salty. My 9 yr old ordered them and I had to finish them and I love spicy food, this was too spicy. The server may have wanted to offer some type of warning to a 9 yr old in the future. Even if your 9 yr old likes franks on everything, pickled jalapeños, and just about every one of your 20 or so hot sauces in your collection. These may be too hot for him to handle. Unless you really hate your children, don't let them order this is what I would say if I was the server. The burger I didn't try but what my wife said was this, the burger patty is tiny, the bacon has no flavor, and the bun is great because it doesn't fall apart like most gluten free buns do.
