I have been to La Campana before and I have always loved their baked goods. People also love their coffee and small sandwiches. The servers behind the counters are not the most friendly since they are always very busy and very rushed....there are only 3-4 tables, so it's best to eat at the counter or do take-out. This morning, we visited La Campana to enjoy breakfast and wrap up our last morning in Seville. At first, everything seemed fine--we were seated quickly, and the staff appeared polite. However, things took a turn when our server arrived. I asked if they had menus in both Spanish and English since I'm fluent in Spanish, but my boyfriend isn't, and having an English menu helps him. Instead of a simple answer, the waiter chuckled, mumbled something I couldn't understand, and placed a napkin holder with QR codes on the table, saying all menu versions were available online. Unfortunately, all the links led to the Spanish menu. While that alone wouldn't have been a major issue, his dismissive attitude was. After that, he ignored us for over 10 minutes despite my attempts to get his attention, so we eventually left. It was a disappointing way to end our time in Seville, especially considering how many fantastic restaurants in the city offer both great food and service. I'd recommend looking elsewhere. read more

Our favorite cafe in Sevilla! We went here everyday for 2 weeks. They have the best cafe and pastries. Friendly servers, great atmosphere, great food. They love it when you try to speak Spanish. One of the great institutions of Seville. Not to be missed. They have branches but those are not as good. You want the original La Campana on Calle Sierpes. Don't accept anything less. * * * This is a late nineteenth century candy maker and bakery that sells everything sweet and Spanish under the sun. Candied fruits? They got 'em. Homemade chocolate? They got 'em. Artisanal ice cream? They got it. Every kind of Spanish sweet baked good under the sun? They got all of them. This spectacular array of desserts is served in a Fin-de-Siecle over-the-top Art Deco ice cream parlor that is visually jaw-dropping. Gorgeous nineteenth century representational ceramic tile. Elegant plasterwork on the ceiling. Elaborate carved woodwork. This is like a museum only way more fun. * * * You would have to live in Seville for a year and a half eating at La Campana every day to taste all of the different desserts they have for sale. I sadly, could only visit twice - so I only got to try two things. One was a rosa miljoca - which means a pink mille-feuille. This is superthin strudel like pastry with many many many layers piled on top of each other to make a cake. Between each layer is strawberry cream. Oh. My. God. The inner three year old in me was happy for the rest of the trip. The second was their hot chocolate. It was the last treat I got for myself before having to prepare to leave Spain. Spanish hot chocolate works on the submarino principle. You take a bar of chocolate. You melt it into hot milk. The result is very thick, pretty much like melted chocolate. It is absolutely positively divine. This is not Hershey's cocoa that needs marshmallows to be good. This is not Swiss Miss that you can gulp down in three gulps. This is a very slow drink of very rich, very wonderful, very intense, pure chocolate. This is a month of chocolate compressed into one hot cup. How does it taste? Guess. * * * Two extraordinary amazing wonderful treats down. I will have to come back another 178 times to get the rest of what is good at La Campana. This bakery had great pastries, but we were disappointed by their coffee and service. Compared to other bars and bakeries in the area, coffee here was very weak (my cappuccino only tasted like milk). The bathroom at this location was poorly designed, requiring a code to be entered in order for anyone to enter the hall which contained two bathrooms. As the code was not posted anywhere, one of the waiters had to unlock the door very frequently. As a result, only one waiter was available to wait on tables. If you are looking for a place to try good pastries, I would recommend this place. My family stumbled on this pastry shop while walking around the old town of Seville. This is a gem at the heart of the La Campana Square. had our first taste, and had to order some to go. On the second day, we have to stop again to grab some meringue and blueberry pastries. On our last day the kids requested that we get our breakfast before our train ride to Malaga. So we had to walk a little over a quarter of a mile from where we were staying at, it was all worth it. The price was super cheap considering what we ordered for 4 persons: 2 pastries, 2 toasted sandwich with jamon and cheese (so tasty!), 1 hot chocolate, 1 cappuccino, and cafe americano (best coffee in town) = €15.10! If I had to find a bakery that represented the soul of Sevilla, this would be it! Absolutely delicious and quant bakery. The outdoor patio was wonderful to relax and drink coffee or tea late at night. For maximum freshness, I recommend going earlier in the day because we arrived around 11pm and you could tell the pastries were out all day. It was still a pleasurable experience. I got the palmera con huevos, which is a butterfly pastry with custard. Tips to order: if you're sitting outside, first take a look at what you want then sit down at an available table, then the waiter will come to you. There seems to polarizing views of service, but mine was terrible. I was confused because I didn't follow my own advice and confused the waiter by ordering at the case then sitting down. No one spoke a lick of English. The waiter hated me and didn't come back to give me change. However, I would definitely come back because the dessert I had was great. I'm patient and willing to wait when things get busy, but there was very little effort made to check in on us. In fact we were hardly acknowledged after our initial order was delivered - given that part of our order was forgotten, I eventually went inside to re-order.
