Let's be real--laundry isn't something most of us want to do, but The Art of Laundry makes it look effortless. Clothes are returned crisp, fresh, and folded so perfectly that I almost don't want to put them away. There's just something satisfying about knowing that your laundry and personal effects are being handled by people like this. When you think about it, they're touching your things, putting in good energy, and caring for them as well as you would yourself--it makes me feel good. This isn't just a great laundry service--it's my favorite local business. Their operation hours may be wrong. Sunday morning, I arrived at 10:06 am with hopes to get a dress altered. The gate was still down when I arrived. I decided to wait a little bit in case the staff was running late or something. While I waited, I called the number listed on their storefront to verify if someone was on their way or if I was waiting for no reason. No one answered--the call just rang a handful of time and ended with a voicemail box message. I waited until 10:22 am when I decided to call it quits. Had I known they weren't open, I would've just waited until Monday to go to my local cleaners for the job instead of wasting a trip.

Ok, ok, in all honesty, I took my newly clean pants home and hung them in the closet where they are waiting patiently for me to get around to sewing that button back on. "Eddie: Do you hold a grudge against Montgomery Burns? Moe: No. [buzz] Moe: All right, maybe I did. But I didn't shoot him. [ding] Eddie: Checks out. Okay, sir. You're free to go. Moe: Good, 'cause I got a hot date tonight. [buzz] Moe: A date. [buzz] Moe: Dinner with friends. [buzz] Moe: Dinner alone. [buzz] Moe: Watching TV alone. [buzz] Moe: All right! I'm going to sit at home and ogle the ladies in the Victoria's Secret catalog. [buzz] Moe: Sears catalog. [ding]" Anyway, this dry cleaning/tailoring place has nice employees. I am always a little uneasy when people are SOOO friendly, after all this is New York, and I wondered a little if maybe when I left they'd badmouth me. Well it doesn't really matter as long as the dry cleaning is clean, and it was, so hey. Weird thing that not too many other dry cleaning places do in this neighborhood-- these guys ask for a name, address and phone number. I'm like what?! The other place down the block knows me only as "Pink Number 9024" and I like it that way. So I told a little white lie and gave a 30 Rock character's name as my name. But I gave my real phone number cause you know, I gotta stay in touch with the place that has joint custody of my $50 pants. The address I declined to give. After all, we do live in a post-apocalyptic John Tyneresque world and I have to guard my remaining liberties carefully. Don't tread on my dry cleaning!!!
