My wife had two cataract eye surgeries at this place. We love our ophthalmologist....but this place not so much.
First off the cold, impersonality of staff only contributes to the "meat market" assembly line feel of the place. More importantly, these folks could do with some diversity training. I am Asian. However, my wife is Hispanic. The racial bias towards my wife was not overt. But as we are an interracial, professional couple, we are both sensitive and attuned to such issues. The first instance of poking her several times to inject the anesthesia might be attributed to poor training or some level of incompetence. However, after the 1st surgery my wife noticed that the eyepatches for the Asian women were nice and neat. Hers was almost haphazard. She was too groggy to comment until after a nap back home. I understood immediately that she had been treated in a second hand manner. She did not want me to say anything to our doctor. It took me a few days to compose myself....and I decided to write this review. However, I held off on publishing this right away, since I knew she would be coming back in about a month - today.
After the 2nd surgery today I made sure to comment about the last eyepatch. This 2nd time looked much better. However, they stupidly put the blood pressure monitor over my wife's sweater, not thinking the velcro was going to snag and ruin the garment. The post op nurse was also a bit officious, especially, after I corrected her on the eye shield procedure, since I had memorized it from the 1st time. She kept telling me that my wife needed to wear the protective sunglasses when she went to sleep?! She never really admitted she was wrong. I had to request clarification twice....as they quoted post op care different from the 1st time. All of the above makes me question overall competency, since it's all about details.
Thankfully, the surgeries went well and the 2nd seems to be all right. My wife is still asleep from anesthesia and no manager is on-site today, while I post this. Lotsa grievances, but my biggest concerns are that I want to make sure racial biases don't rear their ugly heads and color judgments or treatments and perpetuate careless care. Hopefully, management sees fit to educate and retrain staff! read more
