My dad's appointment was at 11:30 for his colonoscopy. He wasn't taken in until 1:30. I work in the healthcare field myself so I understand that there are there are unforeseen circumstances that can cause you to be behind schedule. But two hours is absolutely ridiculous. Please cut down your appointment slots if you can't keep up with the patients you are seeing. It's one thing to have the patient waiting, but to have their post-op driver waiting is terrible. read more

My mom had a procedure appointment scheduled for 11:00 AM. She arrived and checked in at 10:40 AM and waited in the reception area until 11:50 AM. She was then taken to the pre-op office, completed the medical questionnaire, and was sent back to the reception area at 12:00 PM. At 12:50 PM, she was finally called in for the procedure. When we asked about the delay, we were told the doctor was slow today and that it depended on which patient came first. I had a colonoscopy procedure done here and every precaution was taken to keep me safe imo. The instructions that was provided before the procedure was accomplished and the staff verified and made sure I felt at ease. I was a bit anxious but the nurses explained what was going to happen and ensured that I'd be fine. I wore my N95 and continued to wear it throughout my event. All the nurses from the front desk to the waiting room to the pre op to the surgery room were courteous and professional. My Doctor explained what was going to happen and that was the last thing I recall. My procedure was smooth based on the nurse and she told me to contact my primary care. My initial meeting with Dr. Dennis Chan in his practice: I must confess his team is very punctual in keeping exact appointment time, I was impressed to be called in to see him at the exact time. Every one was very efficient in the fast processing of paper work, and then met Dr. Chan. I saw a man who was diligently processing a report, with his assistant carefully taking notes. He kindly greeted me and made me feel comfortable and asked what was on my mind. He responded with accurate knowledge, and a date was set for him to perform a colonoscopy procedure. I was impressed of His kindness as an honorable man, as a doctor with so many years of experience, and all the team which stood together by him. On the day of the procedure, I was there on time, and the front desk greeted me kindly and welcomed me, in no time I was prepared by very kind and helpful nurses for the procedure. Dr. Chan came and he said it will be a breeze, just trust me, which I already did. He took his time to inspect my colon thoroughly, while conversing with me he was finding things which I did not see on the monitor. He was fast and quick in detection and removal of polyps. Without pain and major discomfort, the procedure was over, while our conversation continued. He was kind and understanding, I must say it was God's providence to be treated by him. I do not believe he needs my recommendation, or my praise, because he is a humble truthful man and a truthful experienced doctor. I paid upfront $650 for a colonoscopy deposit that is refundable when my employer provided insurance pays ADSC. The front desk checked my insurance was valid. But the office said they wasn't sure what the co-pay is. Therefore a policy for the large deposit is required. Its been almost a month since the procedure and no claim has yet been placed with Blue Cross / Blue Shield resulting in any refund less co-pay. It's difficult to be out a large sum of money for close to a month now. Much prefer to be billed after procedure and sent to collections (if I didn't pay) than having to pay $650 and wait for the claim filed and deposit refunded. I am quite surprised and ashamed of this place. I used to work here and people were great. Now I think it's employed with subpar medical representatives. They're either from China or have very little common sense. My mother had a colonoscopy/EGD yesterday and I had to take her to ER because she fell and sustained a head & hip injury. Long story short, they rushed her out from recovery room (discharged her home) in order to make room for incoming patients from the procedure (GI) room. My mother had mentioned to the PACU nurse that she still felt dizzy. WHY WOULD ANY COMPETENT RECOVERY ROOM NURSE RUSH AN 80 YR OLD WOMAN INTO THEIR COMPANY VEHICLE TO SEND HER HOME WHO IS DEHYDRATED (from the colon cleanse) AND WHO ALSO RECEIVED FENTANYL / VERSED / PROPOFOL (if needed) DURING THE PROCEDURE?? THE LEAST THEY CAN DO IS GIVE HER AN EXTRA 30-60 min IN RECOVERY ROOM. I believe they monitored her for the minimum 30-60 min in PACU and quickly got rid of her. My mother sustained injuries that required her to be admitted to the local community hospital overnight. Advanced Diagnostic Surgical Center has lost my trust in them to care for the elderly population. Be warned (see other comments) and make sure you tell the nursing administrators there that your loved ones will not be rushed out prematurely. How do I know all this... Terrible terrible...terrible! My father came in for a 12pm colonoscopy appointment. He had to fast since 4pm the day before. We are still waiting in the waiting room and it is now past 1:30pm. I asked the front desk what is taking so long, they say "waiting for bed". How long does it take to prep a bed??? And they already scheduled appointment for 12:00pm...! Should they not be ready then...or at least 10-15 min wait would be understandable! But 1.5 hours past...?? For Colonoscopy....patient have not eaten!!! The people who served me included the receptionist (a lady who speaks fluent English), the nurse (a young lady who speaks Chinese (Zheng), and the experienced nurse who helped me inject IV, both of the nurses who assisted the doctor in doing the procedure and Dr. Dennis Chan were all very nice, caring, and professional. As I was so scared and nervous during the process, they did their very best to calm me down and make me feel comfortable and I am not alone there. I am very appreciative and grateful to them. My mom came in for a colonoscopy. She was given a form with her own information and asked to ensure that all was correct and sign at the bottom. She noticed her number was incorrect and crossed it off on the paper when Linny (also previously noted by another reviewer) curtly stopped her and mentioned that she was not supposed to write on the form. Fine sorry--but you probably could have mentioned it before when you handed us the form to verify. She then took the paper back in a big huff as though it has now become the world's greatest inconvenience, placed it in a plastic bin, took it out again, then immediately put it back again and said "we can't use this anymore because you wrote on it". Now I'm irritated because i work in an acute healthcare setting, believe in service excellence and so know when something is a big deal vs when it's not. I would never dream of letting making such a display in front of a patient over such a trivial matter. You're inconvenienced? Guess what? That's part of the gig, so take some pride in your role. I felt bad that my mom had to witness this so I said to Linny "you just have to print another one out, right?", at which point she seems flabbergasted cause the answer should have been 'yes'. Not thinking she was gonna get called out, she answers 'don't worry' then proceeded to type in the numbers my mom repeated and guess what? Two seconds later, the printer awakes from sleep mode and a new form comes out ready to be signed. Yeah, that's what I thought. At the recovery bay, the male nurse mentioned he was going to provide a copy of the photos taken during the colonoscopy. He had me sign release papers but in the end never brought the photos. We didn't realize it until we were in the car but figured we could just deal with it at a later time. Today my mom called to see if she could get another copy of the photos and the male nurse argued saying he gave them to her and that she should just wait until she sees her doctor. My mom mentioned she wasn't calling to complain, she just wanted a copy. The male nurse proceeded to berate her about if she looked through her purse thoroughly and that he absolutely provided them and he would have to check with his supervisor before he could provide another copy and hung up the phone. Service + Staff: 0 stars This place is full of idiots. This place is literally a joke. It's beyond me and quite frankly frightening that they are in the health care business. AVOID! My father went in for a simple procedure. Checked in at 2pm. Due to "overbooking", I didn't find out till later that they did not see him till 5pm. Great, let's make an 75 year old man who is having some trouble wait in the lobby for 3 freaking hours. No phone call to postpone. 5:30pm rolls around, which is when he should have been released and discharged, then taken back home by a carrier/taxi. That was the plan. Little did I know, he was probably just meeting with the doctor then. I called the front desk. They didn't know S. They said he might be out in about 40 minutes. I asked then if he will need a family member to pick him up since carrier/taxi service ended at 6pm. They said they will give the taxi a call and let me know if I need to come instead. Fine. 6:30pm. An hour has gone by. I have heard nothing. No phone call, no updates. Mind you, of course my father left my contact info with the doctor and hospital. So I call again, asking what's the deal? Does he need a ride (since he's clearly passed 6pm), should I come, is he out? None of which they could answer. Language barrier probably had something to do with it too, but they simply could not understand. How the hell do you run a hospital or a business with that kind of English and MISMANAGEMENT?! Talk about DISORGANIZE! They said they will call me in 15 minutes as they had still not heard from the taxi. At this point, my dad's probably been waiting for at least an hour. Just waiting. 6:45pm. I called again. No phone call. By this time, I have had it. This dumb, idiotic hospital has been making my dad wait for over an hour, close to 2 hours with no perspective for a ride back home. I asked why I wasn't called in the first place to come pick him up and they said they did not have my phone number?!?! WHAT?!?! My father clearly left all the contact info with them. What a bunch of freaking LIARS!!! So, if I didn't call and check up on him, they would've never called me (since they apparently didn't have my number) and my father would have been waiting there for no one to pick him up. STRAIGHT TO THE POINT: I brought my dad here last week for his exam. From the moment we checked in to the moment he was discharged, the service was terrible :( Many of what the other Yelpers wrote about this place is true. The lack of professionalism and how they herd patients patients in and out is upsetting. If you have a choice, choose another surgical center. I do not recommend this surgical center to anyone. DETAIL OF WHAT HAPPENED: Check-in: We arrive early. My dad had a question for the nurse/receptionist in regards to his appointment and the woman refused to look at his paper work from the doctor's and answer his question until he signed in. She didn't even have the courtesy to make eye contact with him and just repeated "Sign in. Sign in" while talking on the phone. Discharge: After receiving a phone call from the clinic stating that my dad was ready to be picked up, I entered the discharged area and was shown to a seat while I watch my dad who was still sedated. As I watched from a distance, the R.N. that was in charge of my father handled him pretty roughly and was raising her voice at him to wake up. So I approached my dad's bedside and that's when she was a bit shocked and asked if I was there for him, which I replied yes. She then place a stack of papers in front of me and said "Sign". I told her I was not going to sign anything until I have a chance to read the papers or she explained to me what I was signing. She then walked off and came back 5 minutes later to explain to me the paperwork. Afterwards she continued to try to wake my dad up, who anyone without a medical background can obviously see was still heavily sedated from the anesthetics. She wanted him to get up and get dress and leave. (They were trying to hurry people out of bed/discharge since many they were rolling in patients out of the operating room was rolled into the discharge room into to be rolled out once again due to no beds.) In the end she forced my dad to get dress and out of the bed and sleep off the anesthesia on one of the couches. read more

I had an appointment scheduled for 10:30am on November 30th. I called at 8:am to verify my appointment, and the lady that answered the phone (jasmine) said that she saw that I was scheduled, but couldn't see the time. 1st red flag. I was having a procedure done, so I had to fast since midnight the night before (so I'm pretty hungry). When I arrived to the office, I checked in and got my wrist band pretty quickly. Then after waiting 45 mins, I went up to the counter to ask how much longer the wait was, and they said it was 2 MORE hours. It's curious that I would have an appointment at 10:30am and then have to wait 3 hours until I'm seen by the doctor. I'm still currently waiting right now in the office, stuck, hungry, and now the person I got to drive me is upset because they didn't know that 4 hours of the day was going to be taken away from this. The office ladies are very slow, or they just don't care about the amount time the patients are waiting for, nor the amount of time that they go without eating. I now know why the lady wouldn't tell me what time my appointment was for, because this is their procedure. Why make appointments at all if this is the procedure? Why do the front desk ladies not know what time my appointment is?...it's because they are purposely misleading patients and trying to cram in as many patients as possible at a first come first serve basis. I usually don't like giving one star reviews, but this is ridiculous. Linny Huymh, Jasmine, and the rest of the office workers at Dr. Dennis Chan's practice are incompetent and practice shady business practices. I can see why this place has such horrible reviews. It's been 4 months and we still have not received our reimbursement, even though they got paid from the insurance provider (got proof of that). After calling numerous time to follow-up, one excuses after the other, we still have not received our reimbursement... Had a diagnostic procedure a couple of weeks ago. Procedure went ok but, this place is like a factory. Efficient but, don't expect a lot of privacy when discussing your medical history behind a curtain. Right next to other people. Half the people were nice and others have no bedside manner at all. If you can book your appointment at the earliest you can. I arrived at 7:20 and my procedure happened at 9:30. Not bad... Had the unique opportunity to be present when my wife had the same procedure at Huntington hospital the month before. Everyone was professional and polite and you get your own room. If my doctor, who is great, every retires, I'm going to switch to my wife's medical group. read more

I'm so sorry to read so many negative reviews, and grateful to have had a stellar experience. The staff members introduced themselves and advised me of their roles. When I told the nurse that I didn't think I was adequately prepped for the colonoscopy, she got consent for an enema which confirmed my suspicion (I did advise them that I am also a Nurse Practitioner). Though I had more than one procedure, I was called in close to my scheduled appt time, and left one and a half hours sooner than expected. Well, years later (two weeks ago), I became a patient here. Seems like everything is better since I left the review in 2011. I was called after a short wait. The nurses were very nice. The facility is clean & well organized. The only thing that really troubled me was that they have the same EKG machine that faulted me at another facility. It just hates me; but a skilled tech can tell my heart rhythm is fine. Like my cardiologist told me, I'm just a victim of technology. So the nurse sorted that out. I was hoping for "totes" or a similar type of no-fall socks. All they had were shoe covers, but I guess that's at least something. They use regular white garbage bags for your belongings. These little cost-savers are okay, but that's why I left off a star. When you're having a surgery, those little things make a difference--and not having them can up you're anxiety. Lastly, I got some general instructions upon departure. I only wish they had told me that I might bleed through the steri-strips or that the stitches would dissolve. I didn't find that until my post-op. I can't discern of that's the center's responsibility or the surgeon's. My advice would be to ask lots of questions if you have them. Overall, I now believe the center is pretty great & I would not hesitate to have another minor surgery there. Just remember that the entrance is the very first gate if you're coming north on Garfield. If you pass it, you have to go all around the block. The entrance is near the end of the lot, and you should see double doors (there are also two convenient discharge spaces for when you finish surgery and are being picked up). Parking is okay, but arrive early in case the lot is on the full side. read more

I came here after getting an infection from garden volunteering for the local elementary school. My primary doctor prescribed an antibiotic ointment that didn't penetrate skin! So the knowledge of the Dr. heres is what allowed me to realized the difference between good and bad doctors. Once at the surgery center, I was zipped in and out of the surgical rooms. PROPS for their speediness! I have was given local anesthetics so it was wonderful since I was even able to see the entire process and the doctors talked me through the entire process. After the surgery, I was able to go home and continue the rest of the day normally and now it seems as if i never had any surgery since there are absolutely NO scars!! so five stars to their speediness, knowledge, and care to me! read more

Apart from having the most inattentive nurses in the world, estimating seems to be their weak suit. A 2.5 hour surgery that was simple ended up being a 5 hour wait time. Every 30 minutes we would ask for a update with a nurse stating that the doctors were almost done. They couldn't state anything else about the situation because "the patient isn't in the recovery room". Well no shit he's not there, but where is he? Update: the other nurses here are much more polite. The head nurse in the front should be out of a job because of her lack of interpersonal skills. She speaks down to all family members and cannot understand simple request in English. She cannot understand the idea that a family member would be concerned about a loved one in surgery. We are here for endoscopy for my mom. The receptionist Linny asked for my mom's ID. When I handed her the ID, she said "You should not give me one ID. I want ID and medical cards all put together, not one by one!" Her tone of voice is demanding and rude. When she gave me the form, the address was wrong. If I can give this place a negative zero, I would. And I haven't yet been to their facility. I'm getting a procedure done in 3 days and this office (ADS) calls me 3 days before the procedure and tells me I have a co-pay / deductible of $558 before they can do my procedure. I was in shock coz I was unaware of the high co-pay. I knew I had a co-pay of $150, not $558. They said this was just in case they find something or need to do "extra procedures," this will cover it! WTH?? I was asked why I didn't call my insurance prior... I told them I didn't think I needed it coz this was not an elective procedure for me. I didn't "elect" to get this procedure done. It's required to get done after you reach a certain age. Nevertheless, I told them I can give them a partial payment, since I'm on a budget and was unaware of the high co-pay. I didn't call to tell them I couldn't pay the copay, or give me a discount or waive the co-pay. I asked if I can pay in 2 installments. It isn't like I was going to disappear from the face of the earth and not pay them. They know where I work, they know where I live. $558 is a LOT of money to fork out. I even mention to the lady that had I known last month about this, I would have set aside the $$ for the co-pay / deductible. She inquired with her manager, who apparently can not bend the rules. She said I had to make 1 payment of $558. Couldn't bend the rules or make an exception. Again, I wasn't avoiding to pay, I just requested to pay in 2 installments. I now realize that money comes first before one's health. That this manager is not human. That this place is like a manufacturing place or repair shop. They want to get you in, get you out and get your money, but at your cost. Shame on this particular health care center, for not having a heart and not being a human or having compassion. Had my Endoscopy done here , overcrowded place , every body is running around , don't have any clue of organization whatsoever...... After I had the procedure done , at "RECOVERY" I was explained before sedation I was going to be there for 30min until I feel ok to be discharged, but nothing but lies... The nurse just asked me are you ok? I couldn't even talk since I was still under anesthesia, she just nodded and told she was going to call my Ride... I was so confused, my Ride came and the Nurse just quickly and roughly removed my IV it was such a rush that she even splashes blood all over me because she removed the IV wrongly.... Such a horrible experience..... They didn't even offer you a wheel chair I was stumbling holding unto my Ride ........ I didn't have as bad of an experience as other yelpers had it seems like. I honestly think it could have been better, but it wasn't too bad. I came early for an appointment, and had the pre- op nurse talked to me about my situation. Based on what I heard, the pre op nurse seemed to have missed certain questions with me and remembered for someone else and vice versa. Well... if its as important as she said, why didn't she asked me? In & out of surgery room. I didn't have anyone force me to wake up but I woke up on my own. Maybe they did, but I just didn't know. I woke up and a nurse was next to me already with papers. Its ironic one of the papers said DO NOT SIGN ANYTHING IMPORTANT WITHIN 24 HOURS OF THE OPERATION. This center deserved zero star. We were waiting for hours here. When I had asked them what is the earlier time I can come, they gave me 10:45 AM. I asked I can come earlier, they said no. Alright, I signed my name at 10:45 AM on the appointment day. Then, my mom and I were waiting for 2 hours to be called in to the pre-op assessment. Even though they said the procedure would be finished before noon. What is noon? 3 PM is noon? Never come here if you have another choice. This is the worst center ever. The staffs didn't know how to ran adiagnostic and surgical center. They should be smarter to serve and help the patients. How would this center be so clumsy? read more

Sitting here waiting in the lobby for my father to finish his procedure. I agree with the reviewer below, regarding patient confidentiality. Especially in the healthcare industry, staff members need to be knowledgeable of HIPAA regulations and violations. The CNA or receptionist(s) speak to the patients in such a piercing loud voice. This is not to inform everyone in the lobby what's going on! Come on, really? I recommend whoever the manager or whoever oversee the receptionist to sit in the lobby for an hour or two and just observe. Whatever the peak hour is... And see how your staff handles working under pressure and the way the staff speaks with patients. Now, I'm not saying every one of the receptionist is guilty of this. I'm just saying, there's a few you can definitely tone down and can use more personable training-- maybe? Another thing, if you're having your patients sign something, you must give them a copy too! Especially if you did not give them an opportunity to read what you "summarized" in one sentence... Just a food for thought, since I would like a copy of what my father signed just to read and go thru it all.. Wouldn't you? This is just being here for an hour -- I don't know what their protocol is after the procedure but I'm sure it'll be taken care of the right way.
