Decided I needed a small meal before my flight. The Conch Flyer was perfect; not crowded, seat yourself, fast service and food delivery. Efficiency is not the standard- weird for an airport bar. The bar is large. The food portions are decent. I went to the bar and got a drink and Cesar salad. It was during the shift changeover. Bartender wasn't very friendly. It took her a while to come over and order my drink, I ordered with lemonade and didn't realize it was pink lemonade- which would have been nice to inform me. I immediately cashed out on her request because she was leaving soon. My salad took a while to come out. The second bartender came and did try to sell me anything else. I had to ask for a new drink. I immediately put my card with the receipt placed in the glass. Waited until last call for my flight and gave up and threw cash. Food is good. We had hot wings & key lime pie. Wings is deli-cious not hot at all. Sauce is perfect! Key lime was okay. Hubby ate it all. Ambiance is good. It's located by gate 5 & 6. Thank you chef for cooking well. After being stuck in the plane, we have to come out. We came right back & stay at bar. Very disappointing the lady at the bar is not properly customer service. Not terrible for airport food. We sat at the bar which had comfortable seating. The TV in front of me was on the menu guide the whole time so nothing to watch. Fish tacos were mostly toppings with overcooked chewy fish. Domestic bottle of beer was $9. read more

This is a nice place to hang out and the food is OK but do not ever order a bloody Mary. It tasted like pure salt. It was so bad. The waitress gave us tomato juice to help it, but it was so bad. We couldn't even drink them. Also, just because we are a captive audience in the airport does not mean the restaurant service has to be rude or that the food is subpar. Come on Key West. Breakfast sandwich was very good, served with seasoned home fries. The 2 eggs were cooked to order and the sausage was very good also. We sat at the bar where Heather took great care of us. Dec 1 in the morning is when Santa is there in the restaurant. Many classes of young children were there to see him. In the main part of the airport some little ones were in groups being read to. Lots of elves running around and even a Grinch! The main section of the restaurant was set up as a buffet for the kids, and Santa and his helpers were in the back with enough presents for each child, including time for photo opps. There was also live music. Very well done! The bar, the back booths and outside seating were open to travelers, but the rest of the restaurant was for the kids. There's another restaurant after secuirty- trust me: walk by this place! I'd rather die of hunger than see the haggard rude woman behind the bar ever again, let alone listen to her berate me in her "i've been smoking since I was five" voice. My crime? I offered to eat elsewhere since she was closing in 15 minutes, I asked if there was food anywhere else in the airport that had food. So she began to angrily lecture me that I had walked right by a sign that told me exactly what was available. Then added all I had to do was read it. Assuming, I was missing something I said, "OK thank you" And she continued, "ok fine, then, I'm not going to tell you" and walked off. vs. simply saying, "there's food in the terminal" Seriously, she has a personality disorder that's not compatible with food service or interacting with the general public. I got 2 drinks, a fruit plate and a chicken sandwich for lunch this Monday while waiting for a flight and paid the bill of 85 dollars with a 15 dollar tip and didn't give it much thought until i got on the plane and realized that I was overcharged . I looked up the menu and the sandwich was 15 dollars and the fruit plate was 8 dollars so unless two drinks were 30 dollar each I was grossly overcharged. read more

Server was so incredibly rude at the airport location. We sat down at a dirty table (because they all seemed like o be) and missed the sign to wait to be seated. There were only 3-4 other tables. No exaggeration, but one of the servers loudly starting to proclaim she couldn't believe we sat down at a dirty table and didn't acknowledge the sign. When we asked her if it was an issue, she continued to challenge us, loudly and rudely. I don't understand how it would be ok to speak to a customer this way. We actually had a pretty good experience at this place. We had the Cuban sandwich and fries, which were excellent. (I'm sort of a fry snob, so this is a big complement from me.) I guess I should thank God we didn't get the waitress everyone mentions in these reviews. Although, I do remember feeling uncomfortable asking the waitress for bbq sauce or a box when our waiter had went on break while we were still there, (which was a long time since we were waiting on our flight.) She had a surly look on her face so I just blew it off. I say "ask for bbq sauce" because that's how Cubans are served in San Diego, usually. I don't know if this was an oversight or just the way they serve them in Florida. There was only one server and prob about 12-13 tables. Don't know her name but this lady was HUSSLING!!! She even checked on us twice. Besides the service the food was surprisingly good. Key West's public transportation leaves something to be desired, but I'll gladly take a $2 bus to the airport and arrive well over an hour early if it means bypassing a $25 cab ride. Luckily, if you find yourself in that situation, you can pass the time at the Conch Flyer. I grabbed lunch here before my flight home and had a 3-course meal with cocktail for under $30. The Conch Republic Combo is a combination of Key West cooking favorites. Granted, it's more along the lines of bar food and far from the best you can get in the Keys, but their Conch Chowder was hearty, the Conch Fritters were filling, and the Key Lime Pie satisfied my sweet tooth. I added on a mediocre Margarita for $3, but it made me happy. read more

On our first day of the vacation Holiday, we decided to stop here for a late lunch and thoroughly enjoyed a laid back atmosphere, very homey service and actually very good light fare for a meal that was decently priced to boot. We had their; Apple Danish; Cinnamon Raisin Bagel with Cream Cheese; Breakfast Sandwich; Coffee; Tea; and Juice. Our server Luanne was great as she not only new the menu, but gave us some local hints. The place is huge and very accommodating with an incredibly large and well designed bar area... they must definitely cater to large groups of travelers during the high season as the cavernous space seemed pretentious for the only 8 customers at the time of our breakfast visit. I would give a zero star but it is not available...I ordered a tea but the waitress tried to get me to order food too...we ended up ordering garlic chicken wings...they had a weird/bad taste...and the waitress did not even give us napkins!! Skip this place and go downstairs after security. $48 for Texas toast French toast that was flatter than regular bread, Belgian waffles with strawberries and whipped cream (more like a drop of strawberry sauce with less than 1 strawberry in it and a small squirt of whipped cream on top of a burnt waffle), coffee that tasted like water and over priced mimosas, that may have had seltzer in them rather than champagne (the verdict is still out) . The only plus side was that the mimosa looked pretty. As for service, I had to ask for a coffee refill, our server came over a couple times to see the cup empty and never filled it up. When I asked for more strawberries, she made a rude comment that I must have ate them all and when I told her there was less than one she eventually brought more "sauce" with maybe one strawberry in it. Also we are at an airport and my husband was exhausted so he put his head down and she came over and told him if he was going to be in there he couldn't do that. My boyfriend and I had a 35 minute time period to catch the sea plane to the Dry Tortugas. We walked in and my boyfriend politely asked about seating and a rude person behind the counter flung her arms out wide and said snidely "It's a restaurant, sit anywhere!". We sat down and I must say we were waited on quickly. There was only one other patron there, and he was already eating. We asked if we could get our food within 1/2 hour and she said "Oh no, not possible". We looked at each other in disbelief (only one other person there, already eating). We decided to take our chances and asked that the food be put into to-go containers. We actually got our food within about 10 minutes because she "put a rush on it". We started to eat out of the containers there and she said we couldn't. My boyfriend asked why not and she said she would get into trouble by her manager because the containers cost more money. We pretty much said well, we're going to anyway and asked for the bill. We ate, put money on the table (under the bill) and started to leave only to have the two wait staff run after us yelling "Hey you need to pay your bill!" My boyfriend quickly walked them back to our table and showed them the money. By the way, he did tip her 20% because he's not a jerk. Some people should not work in customer service! The only thing good about this place is the air conditioning and the art on the walls. The bartender greeted us as we came in and told us to sit anywhere we wanted. So we picked a table, and eventually out waitress came over. I do commend her on at least telling us up front that water was bottled and not surprising us with the charge. I don't mind paying for bottled water, but I want to know before you bring it out. So that is a plus for her. When I asked what the fresh catch of the day was she said Mahi Mahi. After spending a week in Key West, I'd already been told by a few people that the Mahi was being flown in frozen right now, so I was a bit put off by her answer. And asked her for a bit more time, which resulted in a very long wait before she got back to us, not because they were busy (it was dead) either. We ended up deciding on the nachos for something to snack on until we got to our connecting airport, and got a badly presented mess. There was a pile of semi-stale chips topped mostly with a bland and rather unremarkable chili. The cheese was sparse, the other toppings (sour cream, salsa, and jalapenos) were packed away on the side in little to-go plastic cups. We ate a bit of it, then decided it wasn't worth eating and set it aside. The waitress never came by to see how we were doing, though she eventually took the nachos away without comment. We did end up trying the key lime pie (which is from Kermits), and that was good. You can, and probably should get this while in Key West, just not at The Conch Flyer. You can also buy it in the little deli after you go through security. Never at any time did our waitress engage us in any sort of normal "restaurant" conversation except to take our order and to say that the water was bottled. She never asked us how our food was, and was incredibly inattentive. In short, for such a nice looking restaurant, the food and service here was memorably unimpressive and I HIGHLY recommend eating before coming to the Key West airport or going through security and hitting the little deli/bar down stairs. This is an airport pub, but you should know it is a nice, open spacious place unlike most airports. It was fresh and airy and reasonably clean. Some airport pubs just contribute to how uptight you feel. This is more an unwind place. If you can overlook the TV screens and accept it for what it it, I give this high marks for any airport restaurant. We enjoyed the conch fritters, fresh and tasty. The chowder had enough bay leaves to choke a sailor or sports fan but it was delicious. I'd rather fly on an empty stomach than go in some airport pubs but this was nice and set us up for relaxed flights home. Don't be afraid to get a quick one there. Pricing was reasonable. read more

Doesn't this defeat the purpose?? If I am going to use water as means of creating a bomb, I will use ANY water I can get...including water in the bathrooms ON THE PLANE!!) The food is pretty good, we ordered the smoked fish appetizer and a local draft beer. The sitting area was very clean and our table has a great view of the air field. I went to the one and only eating place at the airport....ut oh.....With no competition how good can this place be? Quickly scanning the menu, I was looking for something safe......but I started to notice the accolades posted on the menu....and then finding it was once featured on FoodTV and rated as one of the best airport food places. OK...Game ON..... I wasnt hungry but wanted to try a few items....and there it was....a trio of appetizers.. specially designed for the traveller. So here is how it went... 1. Conch soup: This was one of the BEST conch soup I have tasted. There were large pieces of conch and vegetables in a very flavor intense, tomato based soup base. Very tasty and bold without being spicy and concealing the conch taste. MUCH MUCH better than the conch soup I had the night before. 5 stars for this soup 2. Conch fritters. Now this was different. The fritters were the classic corn fritters of the South....however there were conch bits scattered throughout the fritter. There was enough conch to make you chew a little on the tough meat. Interesting variation on this southern classic.....4 stars 3. Key lime pie: Creamy...tasty....but I thought it could have used more key lime to give it a more tart bite.
