I used to be a regular at J1 but had a few experiences that turned me off of coming here. What did…read moreit for me was when I brought my mom, two sisters, daughter and niece to get our nails done for a wedding, but left without being able to get my nails done because Jackie had overbooked, which I noticed she does frequently. I ended up finding another salon in Scarborough that had much better customer service and was $30 less each visit, so I started going there instead. But yesterday I went back to J1 to have them redo one nail I had done at the other salon because it was breaking from both sides. I showed Jackie where my nail was breaking, she took my hand and for the next 3-5 minutes, her and her two staff members stood, criticizing my nails that the other salon had done. She asked me why I was going there, said they did a terrible job, that the shape and cut of my nails was uneven and just would not stop criticizing my nails. I explained that I go there because it's much more affordable and she did not let up. She then called two of her staff members over, who came and also began examining my nails harshly. After a certain point they stopped speaking English so I had no visibility into what they were saying but I knew in my heart they were still talking about me, my nails and the other salon. I could not believe they were carrying on like that in front of me. It was not only very rude but highly unprofessional. On top of all that, the woman who did my nail left small air bubbles throughout my nail. I will never step foot in this salon again. Truly disgusting behaviour for a salon owner and they will NEVER get another dollar from me.

The front desk offered us bottled water when we checked in but there's also some lemon water at a self-service station. They placed us in the same room so that we could chat during the massages if we would like. They ask that you strip down to your underwear and knock to make sure you're ready and under the blanket before they come in. There was a good variety of massage lengths you could choose from. We did a 45 minute massage this time, but I'd like to do a longer massage whenever we return as it didn't feel like there was enough time/focus on certain parts of the body. The feet was just a quick two pounds of their fist, which didn't really do much for us. I had CeCe and my mother-in-law had KiKi. Overall, the massage was nice. They used oil and a combination of their hands and elbows. The pressure started off too light for me, so I asked her to go harder. She noted she was afraid to go too hard, so I told her not to be. There was a bit of a communication barrier with my mother-in-law, but I was able to translate.

TOTAL $230 I took my daughter there for a consult for a gentle chemical peel for acne and oily skin. The esthetician (NOT Dr. Jenn) with 20 years experience gave her a gentle peel with no salicylic acid which is necessary, it did nothing; it was basically a moisturizer and I wasted about $110. In addition I was sold a $98 acne product that expired 15 months ago. They did refund with no issue and apologies. There was pressure to buy their line of products. I will get her another peel but I will not go here. 2. TOTAL $2300 I was on the wait list for a surgical procedure which they did also support and recommend for me. In the meantime, while waiting to surgically get rid of my puffy under eye I decided to try a dermal filler. I REALLY wanted something to help me out. They did not do my eyes because of the pending surgery but other areas of my face to help smooth it out - the results were minimal, the Total cost was $2300. I ended up getting the under-eye surgery and they dissolved all the filler anyway so the money was a complete waste anyway. Dissolved! I didn't know enough about all of this stuff but I certainly have learnt my lesson! Sharing if you are in the same position.
