I see a lot of doctors. Most of them are at U of M but, I have been going to Dr. Burke for about a…read moredecade. He is good at hand surgery and that is why I see him. Since I have spent many hours in his waiting room I would like to start my review with a few points that I think people really need to know about seeing an orthopedic surgeon, please bear with me.... 1. Orthopedic surgery is a specialty, here the main focus is hands. Usually that means that there are a limited number of specialists in your area, and an even smaller number of good ones. This means that appointments are in high demand at these types of offices. Dr. Burke is great at his job. I have spoken to people that come from other states or are coming to him because his reputation precedes him or someone they know had such a good outcome from their surgery with him many years before. I cannot speak to his colleagues in this office but, I would be fairly confident that they are good at what they do. 2. I have met very few surgeons with a great bedside manner. They are blunt and to the point. This mostly describes Dr. Burke as well but, he has warmed to me over the years and we talk baseball occasionally. Sometimes your appointments will be brief but, if you ever have something you want to discuss then advocate for yourself and talk about it! Doctors are busy and yes many offices schedule more than one patient per an appointment time. You will get the most out of your appointment if you take an active role in it. 3. Orthopedic emergencies happen and you are really going to want the doctor to see you quickly, without a long scheduled appointment if you broke your wrist/hand/whatever over the weekend playing at the lake with Cousin Bob. Sometimes this means that your long standing appointment might be pushed back for the person in the waiting room with the temp cast the Emergency Department put on and a look of pain in their eyes. Have some empathy and be patient because if the situation were reversed you would hope for the same. 4. Which brings to a big point, perhaps the one thing that really infuriates people about doctors' offices - sometimes you are going to have to wait here and sometimes that wait might even be more than an hour. It is simply the reality of the situation, not one that any of us appreciate. But, you need to take the whole situation into consideration. There are days when the schedule is running smoothly and you'll breeze in and out...then there are days when you are going to be there for a couple of hours. Bring a book or watch the annoying TV in the waiting room. The biggest tip I can give you, is get an early appointment, one of the first of the day if you can. Usually this means you will get in before the schedule gets delayed and/or emergencies come in. If you are still with me after that tangent, let me say, in 2010 I injured both of my wrists at the same time and Dr. Burke took wonderful care of me. We went the conservative route at first but, it was determined that surgery was necessary. Four surgeries later (one for each wrist to do the initial repair which meant installing some hardware, and one for each wrist later to remove most of the hardware) I am very pleased with my outcome. I highly recommend Dr. Burke but, I hope you never have to see him!

So I was told I can receive Gel injections for my knee and I tried numerous times to arrange an appointment for the Gel injections.. After leaving many messages to the staff, I still haven't received and phone calls about it.. It's been a long time and I'm done waiting.. I staff there are incompetent and should be replaced and deported.. The lady with the answering service needs to retire because she's too old to remember and carry on a sensible conversation I recommend finding another facility to go to . The Doctor is good, but the staff sucks..

Combined with the medication I was prescribed in there, I was in horrible shape the entire time I was there. I was clearly allergic to the medication that they gave me. My tongue would swell up and I would have uncontrollable muscle spasms, my legs would not stop kicking on their own. But even after I told them and they were able to see for themselves that I was allergic to their medications, they still forced me to take it under the threat that if I didn't I could be there indefinitely. I've seen many doctors in my day but Dr Appell was by far the worst doctor I've ever seen. Not only did he not even pretend to listen to myself and other patients, he prescribed everybody in the place the exact same medications. Mind you many of us had many different symptoms. I've truly never seen a doctor like this who did not even pretend to care. Nothing to help the withdrawal effects of the benzodiazapenes I had been prescribed for many years and on top of that I was forced to continue taking the new medication that they prescribed, despite the fact that I was showing visible allergic reactions to it. It took me quite a while after I was released to recover from the shock to my system this place gave me. Outside of that the place was not run very well at all. One patient in particular literally went around punching people repeatedly and nothing was done about it! But the main point here is against Dr Appell. I've talked to other doctors since then who have told me what Dr Appell did is blatantly against the law. I don't make many complaints but this guy cannot be ignored. If the right person reads this, I beg you to investigate Dr Appell. I guarantee you will find something illegal in the way this guy practices medicine. I've had some bad doctors in my day but this guy was something else entirely.

After leaving the parking lot of 2 urgent care places that listed their hours as being open, but they weren't, we came here. This is a first class operation. You'd think you're in a fully equipped hospital, and you wouldn't be far off. Dr Awada is awesome. He talked to us as he did the stitches (she needed 6, so we got to talk a lot). He met Dr Fauchi 20 years ago. He worked with Doctors Without Borders in Mozambique. And, the work was relatively quick and it looked perfect. The wait at the ER nearby was seven hours today. We were in and out of here in about an hour and a half. The only downside? They don't accept insurance. That's not as bad as it sounds, since it's January and we're not even close to meeting our deductible. A hospital would've charged significantly more than the $250 we paid today. Dr Awada is also a primary care physician. We were considering changing doctors anyway, and I think we've just found our new family doctor.

This place always overbooked, they couldnt care less that they waste your time or keep people sitting in their waiting room losing wages or time with their families. The doctors themselves and Karen are nice but the bookkeeper and whoever does their scheduling are a joke. The general attitude about their overbooking is "oh well we are working on it". No consideration for the patient. You are just $$ to them. They lost two of us because of their practices treatment. Will NOT go back.

However, I'm giving 2 stars because her support staff (receptionists) are so incompetent and unprofessional, it's unreal. I had an abnormal exam result and had to schedule an appointment for a procedure to determine if I have any precancerous or cancerous cells. When the doctor called me for this, she tried twice to transfer me to the desk and no one answered for 20 minutes. I just hung up. Then she called me back and tried again. No answer. She called me again and told me that someone would call me, and then I had to go to class so I forgot about it. I happened to have an appointment for something else a week or two later in between and she was shocked when I told her that I was never contacted to make that appointment, so I made it while checking out. So I did that, and went to the appointment, only to have a receptionist chuckle because she said I'd just had the same exam last month. As if I could forget that that quick. Then a different receptionist called me up and told me that they had put in the wrong insurance codes when they made this appointment, and so they couldn't see me for it, and they didn't have the equipment or time to do the procedure so we'd have to reschedule for 2 weeks. To check if I have cancer or precancerous cells. Which I might. We're going on 2 months ago in discovering this possibility. AND she discussed the procedure by name at the window, with other patients in line right behind me When I called my sister for an earlier ride than expected (my car is in the shop so I had to get dropped off) and told her they had to reschedule because it was scheduled wrong, this receptionist slammed the glass door closed (I was being completely calm). This in addition to them always trying to schedule me on a Tuesday or Thursday, seconds after I tell them that those days aren't good for me, and a 5 day stint of them giving me the runaround to get an important prescription refilled. Like I said, the doctor is amazing. Her receptionists are absolute garbage.
