I see a lot of doctors. Most of them are at U of M but, I have been going to Dr. Burke for about a decade. He is good at hand surgery and that is why I see him. Since I have spent many hours in his waiting room I would like to start my review with a few points that I think people really need to know about seeing an orthopedic surgeon, please bear with me.... 1. Orthopedic surgery is a specialty, here the main focus is hands. Usually that means that there are a limited number of specialists in your area, and an even smaller number of good ones. This means that appointments are in high demand at these types of offices. Dr. Burke is great at his job. I have spoken to people that come from other states or are coming to him because his reputation precedes him or someone they know had such a good outcome from their surgery with him many years before. I cannot speak to his colleagues in this office but, I would be fairly confident that they are good at what they do. 2. I have met very few surgeons with a great bedside manner. They are blunt and to the point. This mostly describes Dr. Burke as well but, he has warmed to me over the years and we talk baseball occasionally. Sometimes your appointments will be brief but, if you ever have something you want to discuss then advocate for yourself and talk about it! Doctors are busy and yes many offices schedule more than one patient per an appointment time. You will get the most out of your appointment if you take an active role in it. 3. Orthopedic emergencies happen and you are really going to want the doctor to see you quickly, without a long scheduled appointment if you broke your wrist/hand/whatever over the weekend playing at the lake with Cousin Bob. Sometimes this means that your long standing appointment might be pushed back for the person in the waiting room with the temp cast the Emergency Department put on and a look of pain in their eyes. Have some empathy and be patient because if the situation were reversed you would hope for the same. 4. Which brings to a big point, perhaps the one thing that really infuriates people about doctors' offices - sometimes you are going to have to wait here and sometimes that wait might even be more than an hour. It is simply the reality of the situation, not one that any of us appreciate. But, you need to take the whole situation into consideration. There are days when the schedule is running smoothly and you'll breeze in and out...then there are days when you are going to be there for a couple of hours. Bring a book or watch the annoying TV in the waiting room. The biggest tip I can give you, is get an early appointment, one of the first of the day if you can. Usually this means you will get in before the schedule gets delayed and/or emergencies come in. If you are still with me after that tangent, let me say, in 2010 I injured both of my wrists at the same time and Dr. Burke took wonderful care of me. We went the conservative route at first but, it was determined that surgery was necessary. Four surgeries later (one for each wrist to do the initial repair which meant installing some hardware, and one for each wrist later to remove most of the hardware) I am very pleased with my outcome. They can't fax over authorization for an MRI. Had to get it rescheduled twice and it was due to the location not completing paperwork.

I can to see Dr.Lasater for my knee, I received two cortisone injections and they didn't help me.. So I was told I can receive Gel injections for my knee and I tried numerous times to arrange an appointment for the Gel injections.. After leaving many messages to the staff, I still haven't received and phone calls about it.. It's been a long time and I'm done waiting.. I staff there are incompetent and should be replaced and deported.. The lady with the answering service needs to retire because she's too old to remember and carry on a sensible conversation I recommend finding another facility to go to . Had a splint made for mallet finger,wore splint for 8 weeks 24 hours now I have a rash on the finger that hurts more than the reason for the splint.Unable to find a cure. read more

You want to avoid this practice because their payment office is really bad... Doctor and nurse were very good but you will be in accounting hell later. They seem to make mistakes in their expense calculation and their numbers don't match with EOB, which will cause statement to show balance. I called and after 10+ time try calling, finally reached human and explained EOB. Human said "It's already been taken care of". I requested to get a revised statement which human politely declined. Now may be 6 month later, I received another statement showing the same balance. But this time, they increased my co-pay from $40 to $80. (my co-pay is $40 of course) Which do you prioritize? Good doctor and nurse or payment to be handled professionally without any issues? I have to say I will choose the later. read more

Tried numerous times to get an appointment with Dr Ryan. He scoped my knee a few years ago, did an excellent job and now both require work. Left voicemails, sent appointment requests via the website, I give up. I can't trust my knees and health to a team that can't return a phone call within 7 days. New doctor time! read more

The physicians are average, but office staff is very poor-in fact, the worse I've ever experienced at any doctors office. They scheduled my surgery for 8:00 am on a Monday morning (6:30 am pre-op). The staff never called me to inform me of the time for the surgery, I had to call the physician on her emergency phone number on Sunday night to find out what time it was the next morning (I'd left several voicemails on the Office phone number over the weekend, the Office Staff never responded to any of them). THEN, the staff rescheduled my surgery time without notifying me. I'd gone out of my way to find someone to drive me at 6:00 am to the surgical center at the last moment, because the physician told me on Sunday night the surgery was at 8:00 am and to be there by 6:30 am for pre-op. When we got there at 6:30 am Monday morning, nobody was there and the office was locked. I got concerned and-again-called the physician on her emergency number (seems like the only way to get information from this group). She called back 5 minutes later and-apologetically-informed me that the Office Staff had rescheduled the surgery to 10:30 am (with no notification to me) and could we wait until then? I told the physician that was impossible-both myself and my driver had taken time off work to get to the medical center early-and we had to cancel. THEN, the staff kept on calling me through the following week-telling me my surgery had been rescheduled for the following Monday at 8:00 am. I hadn't decided whether to complete the surgery there after the first fiasco and certainly didn't speak to any of the staff about rescheduling-they just took it upon themselves to pencil me in without talking to me. I told them I would get back to them if I decided to do the surgery there. In this day and age this type of appalling performance from a Medical Office Staff is completely unacceptable. I would never go back to Hand Surgery Associates, PC again and I'd advise anyone else seeking treatment to go elsewhere. They treated me without any consideration whatsoever. UPDATE: Despite putting me and my driver WAY out by scheduling surgery at the crack of dawn and then rescheduling it without telling me-costing us both half a days pay and travel expenses-HSA feels I owe them more money. I've been getting monthly 'reminders' from their Billing Department to that effect. Stay away from this place, there is something gravely wrong with the way they operate-unprofessionally and unethically. read more

I saw Dr. Williams for a scaphoid fracture and he was very kind and patient. Hopefully I won't be spending anymore time with them for any breaks but if I have to I would go see dr. Williams again for sure. Very down to earth and the staff was pleasant, not a bad experience given how much I didn't want a cast and was pretty grumpy about it. They were sympathetic and overall nice to deal with. read more

It has been over 10 years since my hand was reconstructed by Michigan Surgery Specialists and it is still pain free and as good as new. Prior to the surgery, pain prevented me from opening door knobs or holding even a fork in my hand. Today I can work as a mechanic without any problems. read more

Fraudulent billing practices, be ready to pay!!! Have been sending me a bill for surgery / operation I never had at their facility. Have contacted and they are still sending me bills. I would not trust a place to operate on me that is not even certain who their patient is. read more

Check ego at the door. E. Aron L. Haass, D.O. F.A.C.O.S. actually asked me if I saw something stuck in my finger after two visits, x-rays and ultrasound. Left in disgust and used tweezers to remove the shard of glass myself. Did I mention he was 100 minutes late for the appointment. Thanks for nothing. I hope you enjoy my $60 co-pay. read more
