I'm new to the area and needed to establish care with a new primary care doctor. Most primary care doctors I was trying to book with were fully booked until early 2025; I'm calling in July/August 2024, that's insane. Dr. Mufti's office was the only one I called that was available and in two weeks, score. The office is located in a convenient location; a medical building with plenty of parking. Checking in was easy, staff and Dr. Mufti were friendly.
Now here's the kicker, the first appointment was just a meet and greet with the doctor. I went over my medical history with the nurse for about 45 minutes, entering all the details with her. By sending the patient documents electronically and having them fill out their medical records/info electronically and before they arrive for the appointment, this would drastically reduce the wait time; it will streamline the appointment for both parties and save a ton of time.
After meeting with the doctor, we went over my records for about 15 more minutes. She had labs ordered and gave me a paper requisition for Quest Diagnostics and I was able to setup a second follow-up appointment for 2 weeks later; I'm sure we would go over my lab results then. The appointment took an hour and 15 minutes, which is pretty long compared to others I've been to.
I'm just used to the medical history being inputted electronically and submitted before the initial appointment and only one appointment needed; the lab results would be discussed over the phone and not a whole other second appointment. This would save some time for both parties.
Since I was given a paper requisition to get my labs done at Quest Diagnostics; I booked an appointment for a week later, fasted for it, and went to my morning appointment at QD. The phlebotomist went through the paper requisition and there was a diagnostic code that was missing on the requisition, therefore, she couldn't do my blood work. I tried to call the doctor's office multiple times, but of course it's closed since it's a Saturday. My time was wasted and I was very disappointed.
I decided to cancel my follow-up appointment with Dr. Mufti because the inefficiency of the appointment process was wasting my time. In the end, here are my two cents and constructive criticism, use technology and have things done electronically and double check the requisitions; nobody likes their time wasted. read more
